61. In the hands of the Devil

Valkyrie POV

Laying in bed with a bloody body and a throbbing head, I curse. I couldn’t let this happen. I needed a way, but for that, I needed to be careful. Hearing the doors of the chambers open, I close my eyes. Dried tears and damp hair covered my face. Then, feeling a soft hand, I hear someone whisper. It was a woman’s voice. Softly, I open my eyes. A woman with black hair smiled down at me.

“Hi,” she said, smiling wryly. Her eyes moved to my back. After the man left, I moved my body with the bit of strength I had.

Caressing my face, she kneels.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “How about I heal you?”

Glaring at her, I see the woman sitting in bed. Her hand started glowing as she whispered something in a strange language. I close my eyes as my body feels something cool.

“A healer?” she mumbled. Opening my eyes, I look at her. What did she say?

Trying to sit up, she moves to help me.

“Don’t I’m still healing you,” she said, stopping me.

“Y-You, how do y-you know I’m a healer?” I mutter with a rough voice.

Lowering her eyes, she smiles.

“You’re a tamer, I see. My name is Devika,” the woman said as she looked back at me, “Does Prince Eros know you are a tamer?”

“No, I don’t think so,” I whisper, “But the other one… I think he knows.”

“You mean Prince Seth?” Devika frowned. I nodded softly. Hearing her sigh, she goes back to treating my body.

After some long minutes, she’s finally done.

“Your body will feel sore, but the wounds heal. Except for a few, there are going to be scars left,” Devika said as I sat up. Helping me, she suddenly tenses up. Her eyes go wide as she looks at my belly. “You’re pregnant?” she asks.

Standing up, I look down at her. I cover my belly in protection.

“Wait, I won’t hurt you,” Devika said, standing up nervously, “I couldn’t, but they could.”

“Who? Eros?” I spat angrily.

Devika nodded. Pinching her nose, she sighs loudly.

“Come, let me check on you,” Devika said, offering my hand. I look at it hesitantly. “I won’t hurt you.”

Nodding, I hold her hand. Devika made me sit back in the bed. Then, moving her hand, she checks my belly. Her hand glows as she makes small circles. I watch her like an eagle, ready to do something in case she hurts me.

“They’re fine. A little stressed but fine,” Devika said, smiling. Then, removing her hand, she looks at me, “You’re pregnant with King Dimitri, kids, right?”

“Yes,” I mumble, caressing my small belly. I could barely see a slight belly forming.

“Let me get you some clothes,” Devika said, standing up. Watching her, I look around the room. I needed a weapon or something sharp.

Finding a small knife on the wooden table, I quietly stand up and grab it.

“Here,” Devika said, bringing a dress out, “Eros keeps clothes here for his woman,” Devika explained.

“Where am I?” I asked her as she helped me dress up.

“You’re in King’s Gabriel castle. Have you met him?” Devika asks.

“Met him?” I asked, “Will I?”

Just as the words leave my mouth, the chamber doors opened, and in walked Eros. A smirk plastered on his face as he looked at me.

“You smell like blood,” Eros said, grabbing me by the arm. “Well, who cares, come along?”

Dragging me, I look at Devika, who stares at us. She didn’t say a word. Then, whispering to her to help me, the chamber doors closed on my face.

“Where are you taking me?” I ask as Eros keeps dragging me down some stairs. They made the whole place of concrete. Blue flags hang on the walls of the hallways as we go down. I stare at the enormous area. It was so empty and cold that I heard only our footsteps. “I asked where you are taking me!”

“To meet someone,” Eros said as his grip got tighter. I groan in pain.

Reaching two enormous doors, two guards open them. Eros kept dragging me.

“Here,” Eros said, throwing me to the front.

I was falling to my knees.

I nervously keep my head down. Eros was looking to the front.

“So this is her?” a voice said, “Raise your head?” he said.

Lifting my head, I look at him. The man with brown curly hair and green eyes looked at me. Then, dropping his goblet, he stands up abruptly. He had a shocked face. What was wrong with him?

“Kalliste?” the man said with eyes wide and almost tearful, “Kalliste, it’s you?”

I frown, confused at his behavior.

“What? Who’s Kalliste, father?” Eros asks behind me.

Descending the eight stairs, he walks up to me. Grabbing me from the arm, he makes me stand up. I watch him confusedly. What was the matter with him?

“Kalliste!” he said, hugging me. I tense up by his sudden hug.

“Father, what are you doing?” Eros said as he pulled me away from him. My eyes moved to the woman who was upon the throne. She looked like she’d seen a ghost. “This is the dragon’s king, mate.”

Returning my eyes, I look at the man. Confused at his behavior, he frowns.

“Name,” he suddenly asks.

“Name?” I murmur.

“WHAT’S YOUR NAME!” the man yelled at me.

“Valkyrie…” I breathe.

The man was panting as he frowned. Then, laughing out of nowhere, he looks at me. I back away. Why was he laughing like that?

“Who would have guessed this?” the man said.

“Gabriel!” the woman upstairs snapped. She was shaking.

“Quiet, my queen,” the man named Gabriel said as he waved his hand. “Since when is she here?” he asks Eros.

“It’s almost been a week,” Eros said, frowning.

Moving his eyes, he looks at my hands. I was fisting my hands nervously. I needed to stay strong.

Grabbing my hand, he pulls me. I bump into his chest as he looks at my raised hand.

“What is this?” King Gabriel asks.

Grabbing my wrist, he pulls my glove away.

“Wait!” Eros said, intervening. I nervously look at him.

“What’s the matter?” King Gabriel asked, raising an eyebrow. “It’s just a glove.”

“Yes, but she must have it for a reason,” Eros explained.

“A reason? What? Scarred hands?” King Gabriel said, scoffing. Then, pulling my entire glove away, he stares at my hand confusedly.

I fist my hand as determination hits me. If it were going to work, it would. If not, I was going to get tortured. Gulping hard, I yank my hand away and then slap him on the face. King Gabriel yelled as something glowed from my hand. I back out, but Eros pulls my hair. I turn around and kick him.

I remember what Jordan taught me in fighting skills. First, kicking him in the stomach, I run out. Then, kicking the doors, I started running down the hallway; I needed a way out.

Passing by some soldiers that looked at me in shock, I noticed a blade hanging from one of their trousers. Bumping into him, I grab hold of it and start running. I heard Eros yell from afar as I jumped a fence. I didn’t know where I was, and my entire body ached. But I needed to escape. Breathing hard, I hear footsteps behind me.

Running down a trail, I make a turn. A fence and some other things surrounded an open field. Were those weapons?

Hurriedly, I grip the blade. Glancing over my shoulder, I see a group of men running behind me. I was a bit farther than them but still needed to get out of this place.

As I glance again over my shoulders, I trip and fall. What was that?

Groaning, I grab my belly. For a moment, I got scared, but thankfully there was no pain.

“Hang on, please,” I mumble, standing back again, but as I give a step. Something big falls before me. I yell as I fall back. What was that?

Hearing a growl, I lift my head. A dragon?

Crawling back, I stare at the beast. His silver scales and blue eyes make me frown for a second. Why did he look familiar?

“Good, good,” a voice said behind me. Standing up, I put the blade in a defensive position. I heard the beast growl behind me. Would he hurt me?

“Stay away!” I yelled. King Gabriel turned serious. Scoffing, he moves his head to the side. Noticing a burning scar, I frown. Then, feeling my stare, he looked sideways.

“Surprise? You could hurt me, Valkyrie,” King Gabriel spat with anger. So it worked? “But I wonder, would you dare to hurt me again?”

“What?” I asked, confused. Eros and some of his men joined him.

“Father, are you ok?” Eros asked as he grit his teeth. King Gabriel just glared at him. A silent conversation passed by them as Eros lowered his head.

“Now, where was I?” King Gabriel said, looking back at me, “Oh yes, my dear Valkyrie. I asked whether you would dare to hurt me. Because I don’t think so.”

“Try me, asshole,” I spat angrily, “Touch me, and I swear I will make that face disappear from the face of the earth.”

Somehow my body was talking on its own. I felt the same pain in my head as my mind became numb.

“Didn’t expect you to be like this,” King Gabriel said laughing, “Well, how could you not? After all, you got it from me.”

“What?” I asked in shock.

Eros and everyone else looked at King Gabriel like he grew an extra head.

Laughing, he grabs his stomach. I grip the blade as I look around me.

“Yes, Valkyrie. You got your character from me. Don’t you get it?” King Gabriel said, making me interlock eyes with him, “I’m your father.”

Feeling my body cold, I sway from side to side. What did he say? Then, shaking my head and breathing hard, I shut my eyes. Did I hear him wrong?

Slowly, I open my eyes again. He was smiling brightly.

“Hello, my daughter,” King Gabriel smirked.
