Needing to clear my head from the night before, I decided to go for a run. After getting ready and feeling the crisp air as soon as I stepped out the door, I used whatever energy I had remaining, and made my way to my usual spot. Thoughts of Drake’s infidelity swarm in my mind, that I was mentally exhausted by the time I got back to Ellie’s place.
“Morning,” she greeted as she took a sip of her hot coffee.
“How are you feeling after last night?” Ellie asked.
I let out a deep sigh. “How did I not know?”
She placed her mug down on the kitchen island and shrugged her shoulders. “He was good at hiding it, babe.”
“I’m such an idiot!”
“Hun, he fooled us all,” Ellie replied.
“She’s right. Not only did he hie it from you, he hid it from Ellie, me and your brother, his best friend. If you’re an idiot, then so are we,” Adrian added.
By the time I arrived home, it was late morning. I hadn’t heard from Tyler, so I sent him a text.
Hey. Just checking in to see how you’re feeling.
After a few hours of cleaning my house, and no response from him, I couldn’t help but wonder if he ignored me on purpose. The night before was a lot for me to handle and would have been for him too.He wanted to take things slow. I just wish he would talk to me instead of hiding.By the end of the night, he still hadn’t responded, but I decided to wait until I saw him at work to check if things were fine between us. Taking a shower, I got changed and headed to sleep, hoping when I woke up there would be something from Tyler.
My lids flung open from the vibration on my phone. I collected it from the nightstand and saw a message from Tyler.
I narrowed my eyes at the misspelled text before I sent my reply.Tyler? Are okay? I don’t understand the message.
Come over. Can’t open door. Key at Ellie’s.
“Oh, Tyler. What have you done?” I sprang from my bed and went to my closet for something comfortable to wear before I made my way to Ellie’s place to grab Tyler’s house keys. I unlocked the door and called out to him. “Tyler? Where are you?” Please don’t let me find you tied up somewhere.
My breath hitched when I found Tyler on the carpet next to the couch. “Tyler! Oh, my God. Are you okay?” I bent down to check up on him and discovered him drenched in sweat. His cheeks flushed and his skin was warm to touch. “Oh, my God. You’re burning up.”
“Ugh,” he grunted unable to speak.
“I need to get you out of these clothes.” I made my way to his room and opened his tallboy to find something light for him to wear. After finding a towel, I searched the cabinets for a first aid kit before I removed two tablets of ibuprofen. With the medicine, water and clothing in my hand, I went back to Tyler and placed everything on the coffee table. “I’m going to need you to sit up.”
“It’s okay. I’ll help you.” Tyler flung his arm around my neck and I helped him to the couch. “Have you taken anything for your fever?”
Tyler shook his head. “N..no,” he croaked.
“Open your mouth, baby.”
His movements were sluggish but took the medication with ease. “Sleep.”
“I know you want to, but let me get you cleaned and changed. You’ve broken in a sweat with your fever and your clothes are all wet.”
After removing his clothes, I wiped him down with the towel and helped him get changed. “Don’t leave me...”
“I’m here, baby. I just want to put a load of washing on then I’ll be back.”
Once I found the laundry, I put his clothes in the wash and went back to Tyler, who had fallen asleep on the couch. I grabbed a spare blanket from the linen closet and rested on the lounge opposite his. A few times during the night, I checked up on him and was satisfied that his fever had gone. When morning came, I sat up on the couch and waited for Tyler to wake up.
He smiled as soon as our eyes connected. “You’re here.”
“Hey. You don’t remember messaging me?”
“I do. I just didn’t think you would show up.”
“Are you kidding me? Of course, I would have,” I beamed. “Though I had no idea what I would find when I got here. Your message was cryptic. I thought I would find you cuffed to the bed again.”
He managed a small laugh. “The only person I could ever trust to tie me up is you.”
“I’ll remember that for next time,” I winked.
“Thank you for helping me.”
“You’re welcome,” I replied. “Are you hungry?”
“I am but still so exhausted.”
“I’ll make you something to eat and then you can go back to sleep. You should send a message to Finlay. Tell him you’re sick.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Don’t you need to go in today?”
“I’ll let Finlay know that I’m working from home, but I need to get my laptop. What would you like to eat?”
Tyler licked his dry lips. “Peanut butter with jelly.”
I couldn’t help but smile at how adorable he was. “Peanut butter and jelly toast, coming right up.” After making his breakfast, I sat down next to him on the couch. “Here you go.”
“Thanks.” He took a bite out of his breakfast and shifted his attention to me. “How are you feeling about what happened two nights ago?”
“I’m struggling to understand how I could not have known.”
“He’s an idiot. He cheated on you, and would have cheated on Krystal with you, if you let him.”
“Never going to happen.”
“I can see why Alex was so mad. I mean fuck. I even wanted to kick his ass myself.”
My smile faltered. “I thought you were mad at me.”
His mouth opened. “Why?”
“Because you wanted to take things slow, to have a drama free, less complicated relationship and you’re being dragged into this mess,” I sighed. “I don’t want you to resent me for it.”
“I told you before this isn’t your fault.”
“I know. So you’re not mad?”
“At you? God, no. At him...different story.” He took another bite from his breakfast. “Mmmm. So good. Best toast ever.”
“I think you’re just hungry.”
Tyler placed the empty plate on the coffee table. “I have to be honest with you. There is one thing I’m disappointed about.”
“Ellie mentioned you get friskier when you’re drunk. I missed out on seeing that,” he smirked.
I laughed. “You’re sitting here sick as anything, and you’re still thinking about sex.”
“Not just sex.”
“Sex with you.”
I blushed. “Don’t worry. When you get better, we’ll be having sex in that records room in no time.”
He took my hand in his and our fingers entwined. “Promise?”
Our connection broke when my phone buzzed. I shook my head and sighed as soon as I saw the text from my ex.
I’m sorry about everything. We need to talk.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
“What is it?”
“Drake just messaged me.” I was quick to send a reply.Delete my number and don’t try to contact me again. I’m blocking you.
“Are you curious about what he has to say?”
“Not even a little bit.” I placed the back of my hand against Tyler’s forehead. “Hmmm. Your temp might be coming up again. You need to rest.”
“I feel so much better than yesterday,” he admitted. “So, if I sleep, will you lie down next to me?”
Tyler smiled before he laid down on the couch with me cuddled up beside him. It didn’t take him long to knock out, so when I heard the doorbell ring, I was quick to answer as to not wake him up.
As soon as I opened the door, my mouth dropped open and my heart raced. I knew the person who stood in front of me. “Oh, my God. It’s you!”
