I swallowed hard before I blinked the tears away from my eyes. “Goodnight, Tyler.” Needing some distance, I moved away from him and laid down on the bed, droplets of emotions streamed down my face.
Before I could react, Tyler laid down beside me and caressed my arm with a gentle voice. “Summer...please...I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it,” he sniffled. “I didn’t mean any of it.” He wrapped his arms around my waist and nuzzled into my neck. “I’m sorry.”
I woke up the next morning with Tyler’s arms still wrapped around me. As I tried to move, he pulled me back into him. “Tyler...”
“Stay with me please.”
“We have to go to work soon.”
“I just need five more minutes.”
I could have stayed in his arms forever, but it wasn’t right. The pain was too much, and I’d probably be broken all over again. Without trying, my eyes closed, and I fell asleep.
I stirred and let out a groan. “Hm?”
“Summer, wake up.” My eyes flung open and I took a deep breath. “We slept for another hour.”
Tyler flung the blanket off and we abruptly sat up. A quick trip to the bathroom was all it took to get freshened up and ready for work. As I stepped out of the ensuite, Tyler zipped up his pants. His entire upper body visible due to his lack of clothing, and I couldn’t help but stare at his magnificent form. When he caught my gaze, a slow smile spread on his lips. “Are you ready?”
I cleared my throat and nodded. “Yeah.”
Tyler followed me to the door. “Wait.” Against everything, I turned around to him. “I want to talk about what happened.”
“It’s not the time, Tyler.”
“When is the time?”
I shrugged my shoulders. “Maybe when we get back home.”
“Fine. When we get back tomorrow, we’ll talk then.”
“We didn’t get a chance to eat. Are you hungry?” Tyler asked, the moment we stepped back into our hotel room.
“Actually, yeah. I’m starving.”
“What if we ordered pizza?”
“I want to go out.”
“Oh. Okay,” he deflated. “I guess I’ll just order room service then.”
My eyebrows arched. “You want to stay in the room by yourself?”
“Then come with me. I’m going to shower and get ready.”
Tyler nodded. “I’ll get changed.”
After a quick rinse, I dried off and changed into my denim jeans and black long sleeve top. My curves spilled from the top and Tyler couldn’t pry his eyes away from me.
He cleared his throat. “Are you ready?”
God, why does he have to look so damn irresistible?
“Mmhm,” I nodded.
We both stepped out of the room before Tyler locked the door and placed his hand on the small of my back. “Where should we go?”
“There’s a rooftop bar we could check out.”
“They’ve only opened in the last month or so according to their brochure.” I tucked the loose strands of hair before I continued. “As long as they have food, I’m good.”
Tyler held the lift door open and I stepped inside with his hand still rested against my lower back. When the lift doors closed, and re-opened on another level, a young girl and her mom walked in. With wide eyes, she looked around the small space and stopped when she caught Tyler’s attention. An innocent grin crossed her face before she tugged her mom’s shirt. “Mommy! Look. A prince!” Her mom apologized to us both before she shifted her attention back to the front of the lift. Once more, her eyes sparkled when she turned to Tyler. “Is she your princess?” I glanced at Tyler; whose smile had reached the little girls. With my head turned, I didn’t see him mouth the word Yes to her. “She’s pwetty.”
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” he whispered. “Just like you.”
A pink colour settled on my cheeks and I kept my attention shifted away from his. The girl and her mom stepped out of the lift on the next level, before we continued our journey to the rooftop bar.
“Wow. It’s gorgeous here.”
“Yeah, it is,” Tyler agreed. “Want to order some drinks and food?”
The bartender smiled as soon as we picked up the menus. “What can I get you?”
Tyler and I ordered some entrees of Vegetarian spring rolls, chicken wings and Arancini balls to share. He headed to the bathroom while I sat down on the seating area next to the outdoor heater.
Only a moment later, a familiar voice rang in my ear. “Hi. Fancy seeing you here.”
I shifted my attention to the asshole from the night before. “Hello.”
“Are you here all alone?”
Before I could respond, Tyler returned. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, all good. This guy was just about to leave.”
“No, I wasn’t,” he smirked.
“Yes, you were,” I sneered.
“Well, it sounds to me like she doesn’t want you here,” Tyler spoke. The asshole stepped closer and Tyler didn’t flinch. “Do we have a problem?”
“No problem.” He shifted his attention to me. “See you around, gorgeous.”
“No, you won’t,” I replied.
He kicked his heels and turned before Tyler sat down next to me. “You okay?”
“I’m fine. Thank you.” I snatched my drink from the table, and it provided me with an instant satisfaction as the beer hit my lips, tongue, and throat. “Mmmm.”
“It might hit you quicker since you haven’t had anything to eat.”
“Well, they better hurry with the food because I’m about to grab a second drink.”
“Speaking of dinner.” The waiter brought over our food, and we both took a crunchy spring roll from the platter. “So, what did that guy want with you?”
“Just trying to chat me up I guess. I met him at the bar yesterday He got a bit handsy with me.”
Tyler’s mouth gaped open and fire burned in his eyes. “He what?”
“It’s fine. He just grabbed my arm and it took him a while to let me go.”
“It’s not fine,” he huffed. “Fucking asshole.” He rolled his fists into a ball and his jaw clenched before a deep breath blew passed his lips. “I got a message from Adrian today.”
“About a party he and Ellie are having.”
“Yeah, Ellie mentioned it to me when she called me last night.”
“Oh. That was Ellie on the phone? I thought...ugh. Never mind.” Tyler scratched the back of his neck. “Are you going? I was thinking of going. Is that alright with you?”
“Of course. Why wouldn’t it be?”
His lips curved into a delicious smile. “No reason.” I took another small sip of the beer before I sculled the rest. “Can I get you another?”
I nodded. “Thanks.”
Tyler stood, and made his way to order our drinks when he was stopped by a cute and petite waitress, who immediately chatted with him. I couldn’t hear the conversation, but her flirtatious laugh echoed throughout the entire bar. Not wanting to see what was happening, I turned my head to avoid their exchange.
Keeping my eyes on my phone, I was only pulled away from my thoughts when Tyler sat down again. “Here’s your drink.”
“Thank you.” He watched me take slow sips and when I finally put my bottle down, a smile played on his lips. “What’s wrong? Do I have something on my face?”
I swallowed hard when he moved closer towards me. “You do actually.” His thumb caressed by bottom lip before his eyes caught sight of my mouth.
Oh, God. Is he going to kiss me? I think he is. Oh, God. Do I kiss him back? Oh, God.
As he leaned in closer, the waitress dropped her serving tray all over me. “Shit!”
“Oh my God. I’m so sorry.”
Grateful that there weren’t many drinks spilled, I looked up and realized it was the waitress who had flirted with Tyler before. Ugh. You did that on purpose you bitch.
“Are you okay?” Tyler asked.
I wiped down the alcohol which soaked my black top, and the stench of vodka settled against the material. “It’s fine.”
Tyler shifted his attention to the waitress. “Can you get her something, so we can clean up”
“It’s okay. I might just get changed back in the room.”
“You want to leave?” Tyler whispered, and his tone drenched in disappointment.
“I’ll smell like a brewery for the rest of the night.”
“I don’t care,” he replied.
“I’m really sorry,” the waitress replied.
Tyler’s eyes don’t leave mine and I almost fumbled my next words. “I...I’m um. Just going to go to the bathroom to freshen up.”
I stood from the lounge and Tyler smiled. “Hurry back.”
After I freshened up and a quick pep talk in the mirror, I returned to Tyler who was in a conversation with the waitress.
“Come on. Have one drink with me,” she begged.
“No,” he refused.
“Is it that girl you were with? I mean because it doesn’t seem like she’s interested in you.”
Fucking cow. Of course, I am.
“The point is not whether she is interested in me, it’s whether I am interested in you,” Tyler huffed. “And I’m definitely not.”
I smiled as Tyler completely shut her down before I walked over to them both. The waitress raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes. “Is there a problem?”
“No. Looks like your outfit is ruined.”
“It just means I’ll get to take it off quicker,” I winked and shifted my attention to Tyler. “I’m going to head back to your room.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, positive.” I pushed past the waitress, and she let out a huff. Tyler ignored her and followed me close behind. We made our way to the lift and as soon as the doors closed, the tension in the air increased to a thick fog.
With our hands beside our bodies, Tyler’s finger ran through my own and an electric surge zapped my entire body the moment he touched me. I let out the breath that was stuck in my throat, and the knots in my stomach tightened.
When the lift doors opened, a rowdy bunch of guys stepped in and somehow forced Tyler and I to separate. “Damn, girl. You’re sexy as fuck,” he complimented, but I chose to ignore his words, until he decided to slap me on the ass. “Nice.”
Oh, hell no he didn’t.
I turned to the guy, grabbed his hand and pulled back his wrist and fingers, which caused him to fall on his knees. “I don’t believe I gave you permission to touch me, did I?” When he didn’t respond, I twisted his fingers and raged. “Did I?”
“Ow ow ow ow ow no no no sorry no.”
“Keep your filthy hands to yourself.” I let go, and the guy stood.
The lift doors opened. “All of you get the fuck out,” Tyler growled. With one look towards him, all the guys bolted out of the lift. “Fucking assholes.”
“I didn’t say he could touch me.”
My attention turned to Tyler. “You on the other hand, can touch me all you want.”
