Chapter 7

Shit. I have to run. Where can I run to?

What the? Is that Alex?

I slowly turned around and noticed my brother standing in front of me. His eyes went wide before he scratched the back of his neck.

"What the fuck are you doing here?"

"Me? What the fuck are you doing here? Why didn't you tell me you were back and for the love of God, why didn't you tell me about the party?"

"I didn't want to upset you. What are you doing here?"

"I'm here on a date. A friend of mine asked me to go with him to an engagement party. I had no idea whose it was until I read the welcome sign."

"Oh, fuck. Seriously?"

"Yes, seriously! I'm going to kill you and Tyler."

Alex smiled. "You look beautiful by the way."

"Alex, this isn't the time. I'm freaking out here!"

"It'll be okay." He stepped closer and pulled me in for a hug providing the comfort that I was desperately needing.

"Oh, this was too easy. I've already won the bet!"

I stepped away from my bother and turned to Tyler before I punched him in the arm harder than I knew was possible.

"Ow! What the fuck, Summer?"

"I'm going to kill you, Tyler!"

"What? Why?"

"Do you have any idea where you have brought me tonight?"

"What are you talking about?"

Alex reached out his hand and extended it to Tyler. "Hey, I'm Alex."

Tyler smiled mischievously and greeted my brother. "I'm Tyler."

"And how long have you been dating my feisty sister, Tyler?"

Tyler narrowed his eyes and dropped his hands before he turned to me. "Sister?"

"Yes, this is my brother, so no, you haven't won the bet."

Tyler turns back to Alex. "We're not actually-,"

Fuck. No. This can't be happening. Don't turn around. Don't turn around. Please. Help me.

"Is that you?"

The sound of Drake's voice triggered every emotion under the sun. I swallowed hard before I turned around and plastered the fakest smile, I could master. Just breathe. "Hey, Drake."

Damnit. Why does he have to look so good? I can't believe Tyler brought me to my ex's engagement party.

"Wow. You look incredible."

Drake was unzipping my dress with his eyes, and the beads of sweat were shimmering against my immaculately painted makeup.

He strolled over a little too close, and was about to pull me in for a hug before Tyler snaked his arm around my waist, and snugged me into him.

Tyler reached out his hand and extended it to Drake. "Hey, I'm Tyler. Summer's boyfriend."

Drake's eyes narrowed briefly before he smiled at Tyler. "Oh. Um. Nice to meet you." His attention turned to Alex. "You never told me she was seeing someone."

"My sister doesn't tell me everything, bro."

I knew that was a lie. Alex and I were quite close, and I've told him pretty much everything about my past relationships. I would have definitely told him about Tyler.

Drake caught my gaze. "It's cool. I'm just surprised to see you here is all."

"I'm definitely surprised too."

"That would be my doing. She came here as my date," Tyler interjected.

"I'm sorry. I don't actually know who you are."

"My mom was invited, but she couldn't be here so I took her place."

Drake looked down at his phone before he locked eyes with Tyler. "Who's your mom?"

"Alice Edwing."

"Oh of course. I know her," Drake smiled before he turned to me. "So, you had no idea you were coming to my engagement?"

"Not a clue."

His intense stare caused my insides to churn. "You really do look amazing"

"Thank you. Congratulations on your engagement."

"Thanks. Maybe we can talk later?"

Hell no.

"I don't think so. I can't leave this one alone." I pointed to my fake boyfriend. "All the vultures might attack him." I turned to Tyler who had a wicked grin on his face. "You ready to go in?"

"Sure thing, beautiful."

The word caught me off guard, but I still managed to spread my lips to a genuine grin. "I'll catch up with you later, Alex."

"Definitely. I'm sure I need to do the protective brother thing and get to know your boyfriend."

"Bring it on, Alex." Tyler chuckled before he picked up my trembling hand and brought it to his warm mouth, and kissed the spot just above my knuckle.

After leading me to the entrance, I released the breath caught in my throat. "Oh my God."

"That was awkward."

"You told him you were my boyfriend."

He gently squeezed my hand. "I know. I'm sorry, but I thought-."

"Thank you. And Thank you for pulling me towards you so he couldn't touch me. Don't think I didn't notice that."

"Anything for my employee," he joked.

I couldn't help but smile, but it faltered as soon as I heard the familiar voice call out my name behind me.

"Summer? Is that you?"

Ahhh fuck.

I leaned in and whispered to Tyler. "That's Elanor. Drake's mom."

The both of us turned around and smiled at Elanor. Her flowing red dress brought out the evilness in her eyes. I always had the feeling that she didn't like me.

"Oh, it is you! Hi, darling."

"Hello, Mrs. Kolby."

"Please. Just Elanor. How are you?"

"I'm fine thank you. How are you?"

"Well, dear. Did Drake invite you?"

I shook my head and lifted my hand which was still entwined with Tyler's. "No, actually. I'm here with Tyler.

"Tyler? Oh, of course. You're Alice's son."

"Yes, I'm sorry she couldn't be here."

"That's quite alright, dear. How do the two of you know each other?" Elanor pointed to both Tyler and myself.

"She's my girlfriend."

There he goes saying that damn sweet word again.

"Oh, lovely. Alice would be thrilled. She's always wanted you to settle down."

"We're not there yet. This is still fairly new," I added.

"I'm happy for you both, dear. I think we've put you sitting with your brother on Drake's table with his fiancé. Table number one."

Oh, God. Why the fuck would they do that?

I squeezed Tyler's hand signaling him to get me out of this clearly fucked up situation.

"Ow! Well, it was lovely to meet you. Summer, would you like a drink?"

Or eight.

"Yes. Thanks, Tyler."

We said goodbye to Elanor. I knew I'd probably be seeing her throughout the night, but I hoped that the alcohol I was about to ingest would make me not give a shit.

Tyler led me to the bar. We sat down on the stools and he shifted in his seat to turn to me. "You nearly broke my hand back there."

"I'm sorry, but did you hear her? We're sitting on the same table as my ex!"

Tyler placed his hand on my shoulders. "If I had known where I was taking you..."

I smiled and shook my head. "You probably would have still asked me to go with you."

His lips curved into a grin. "Guilty. So...Vodka or beer."

"Definitely vodka. I need something a little stronger than beer tonight."

Tyler turned to the bartender and ordered our drinks. The moment they were placed on the bar, I snatched it and brought the glass to my lips, taking a large gulp.

"You know I think your ex still has a thing for you."

I choked on the drink and put it back down before I wiped the corners of my lips. "That's why we're here at his engagement party."

"Engaged or not. I saw the way he was looking at you."

"It doesn't matter. I have my eyes set on someone else."

God, I did not just say that.

Tyler smiled, and stood up from his seat before he grabbed our drinks. "Come on, we'd better sit down at the table."

"About that. Rule number...whatever we were up to."

"You're not allowed to leave me alone for the night. Especially with him."

"I won't take my eyes off you."

"Oh, and you can't let him sit next to me on the table."

"You'll be right next to me the whole night."

"Except when I need to pee," I joked.

Tyler laughed. "That goes without saying."

I stood up, and Tyler led me to table one, placed the drinks down and pulled out my chair like the gentleman he was.

"Thank you, boss."

He smiled, leaned in and whispered in my ear. "I prefer it when you call me sir."

His hot breath exhaled against my sensitive neck, and I felt a wetness pool between my legs. I clenched my thighs and took my seat with Tyler taking his beside me.

"So...do you know what I've noticed?" I asked Tyler.

"What's that?"

"Every girl here has been checking you out."

And they were a ton of women, who I noticed from my peripheral vision were gawking at my date. The man, for some reason, I couldn't stop thinking about kissing.

"I hadn't noticed," he joked. "It doesn't matter. I have my eyes set on someone else."

"Hi." I looked up and noticed a beautiful blonde standing next to Drake. He swallowed hard and she took his hand in hers. "I'm Krystal. Drake's fiancé."

"Hello," Tyler and I said in unison.

"You're Alex's sister, right?"

"I am."

"He's a sweetheart."

"Yeah, he's not too bad."

"I'll be back, babe," Krystal smiled at Drake before she turned her heels and swung her hips away from our table.

Drake took this opportunity to sit down on the empty seat next to mine.

Tyler leaned in and whispered. "I need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back." I shot Tyler a stare with my widened eyes. His lips curved into a smile and he leaned in to whisper to me again. "I'm kidding. Relax."

"You saw my mom, before?" Drake interjected.

"Yeah, we did."

"I know this might be uncomfortable for you."

Lie, damnit.

"Surprisingly, I'm okay."

"Yeah. I mean you've moved on. I've moved on. Nothing to be uncomfortable about."

Drake's lowered voice croaked. "Great."

Suddenly, Tyler placed his hand on the silk material above my thigh, causing me to flinch. He squeezed gently and a smile released from his lips, which caused my heart to beat slow and fast at the same time. How does he do that?

"So, how did you and your fiancé meet?" Tyler looked towards Drake, still making circles with his hand.

I was so close to lifting up my dress just so I could feel the warmth of him on my skin.

Drake cleared his throat. "Oh. Through some friends."

"Drake!" Alex shouted. "Move over so I can talk to my sister and her new boyfriend."

Thank you, Alex.

Drake reluctantly moved over to the next chair, while Alex sat down and looked between Tyler and myself. "So, how's Ellie and Adrian."

"They're great. Came back from their honeymoon and now they're away for his work."

"They got married? About time!" Drake exclaimed.

"Yeah, we thought so too."

A waiter came by and poured our glasses with water, at the same time Krystal sat down next to Drake. A few more people joined our table but kept to themselves.

"So, are the two of you dating?" Krystal smiled, pointing between Tyler and I.

"Yep," Tyler responded.

"How did you meet?"

Tyler laughed. "Funny story actually. I was taking a shower at Ellie's place as my plumbing needed fixing, and Summer here, walked in on me naked."

Drake's eyes widened and his jaw clenched. "You were completely naked?"

"Oh, yeah. Completely naked." Tyler looked to me and smiled. "She got all shy and embarrassed. Her cheeks went all red before she bolted out of the room. Kinda like she's blushing now."

I bit my lip and looked down at Tyler's hand which was still resting on my thigh.

"Do we really want to hear this story?" Drake interjected.

"Wait. It gets better," Tyler laughed before he continued. "The second time...,"

"She walked in on you twice?"

I looked up at Drake pressed my lips together, trying not to smile, but Tyler was making it so damn hard.

"No. The second time I walked in on her naked after she had a shower."

"You saw her naked?" Drake sighed before he brought his glass of water to his mouth and took a sip.

"Hell yeah, I did...and then I gave her my bacon."

Drake choked and spat out his water. "I'm sorry. You gave her bacon? Is that code for sex?"

"Dude, no. What the fuck? I mean I literally gave her my bacon. After that...one thing led to another."

My hand flung over my mouth to stop myself from laughing.

"That's ummm...sweet?" Krystal remarked.

"I thought so too."

I finally managed to stop laughing. "The whole thing was actually sweet though. I loved how he put the last crispy bit on my plate when we left."

"Baby, that piece fell on the floor. I wasn't giving it to you. I just picked it up and dumped it on your plate."

"Oh my God!"

Tyler and I bowled over and wrapped our arms around our stomachs while we snickered.

I stood up, wiped the tears from my eyes and cleared my throat. "Excuse me. I think I need some air." Shifting my attention to Tyler who was grinning from ear to ear. "Come with me?"

"Sure thing, baby."

Tyler held my hand and we both walked out into the cool breeze.

"Oh my God. Tyler. Thank you!" I flung my arms around his neck and threw myself at him.

He wrapped his arms around me. "For what?"

"I haven't laughed like that in a really long time.'

"I'm glad I could make you smile."

My cheeks flushed as I pulled away. Tyler rested his hands against my hips.

"You do realize that you weren't completely naked through, right?"

"I know. So, I embellished the story a little. I just wanted to see the look on Drake's face."

"I was too busy laughing to pay attention to it."

"Well, he was furious." Tyler stepped back and dropped his hands. "I'm telling you the guy is still hooked."

"I don't care. I'm trying to move on with my life."

Tyler bit his bottom lip. "I need to go to the bathroom. Will you be okay out here for a bit?"

I nodded. "Yeah, I'll be fine. Go do your thing."

Tyler turned away and went back inside the venue.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before I looked up to the heavy stars that scattered across the night sky.

"Summer?" My eyes flung open to the sound of Drake's voice. I shifted my attention to him and he scratched the back of his neck. "Can we talk?"
