Ryder, book 1 of Ryder

Robby has turned out to be an okay guy. He is a real gentleman and I have been out to lunch with him three times and have joined him and Betty for dinner almost every night. He hasn’t even once made a move on me. It’s good to have a conversation with a man that I didn’t have to fight off. I’m pretty sure that two of the most dangerous men in the world are looking for me. I try not to stay in one place too long. I’ve been here for a while now. This has been one of my most favorite hideouts. I know if I stay too long one of them will find me, but I’m just having a hard time leaving here.

“Do you work tomorrow?” I heard Robby ask has I was washing some dishes.

“No, I’m off the next two days. Why?”

“I’m taking Betty to the gardens on the edge of town. Would you like to join us? She really in-house that place.”

“I’m sure I can find time for that.”

“Oh by the way. I’m leaving a day early. I have work to get back to.”

“Betty will be sad when you go. She enjoys these visits.”

“I know, but I’ll be back before she knows I was gone.” I sat the last dish down and grabbed the dry dish towel for my hands. “At least she has you. She talks about you none stop. She really cares for you.” I smiled.

“I care about her too. She is easy to talk to.”

“I agree with you. She is a good listener and she has no judgment.” He said taking a seat.

“That’s the part I love the most.” We both smiled at each other.

“You’re a woman with a lot of secrets, I can tell that about you, Sarah.”

“What makes you think that?” I said taking a seat myself. Robby just watched me for a moment.

“You’re quiet and when we start to talk about family things or things that are personal. You never add to the conversation. In fact, I really don’t know a lot about you.”

“Yeah, I don’t really have much of a past. I’m kind of antisocial.” Robby looked at me as if he was sizing me up.

“Why do I find that hard to believe?” I bit down on my lip and just tried to shrug my shoulders.

“If I have secrets. I will take them to the grave with me.”

“Fair enough.” I gave him a smile. “I will see you tomorrow.” He grabbed his things and left. Betty was sleeping so I finished up her kitchen and headed home. After my shower, I crawled into bed and pulled out my phone. I laid there looking at the screen. Ryder was the only thing on my mind. I missed him so much, and I knew he was probably worried about me. I had been on the run and hiding so much. That I knew what I was doing and I knew I wouldn’t be found. All I wanted to do was text him and tell him that I was safe, but I couldn’t do that. He would have my phone traced and then he would come for me. I felt a tear fall from my eye. I hated feeling this way. I wish I would have just stayed away from him. This was the only way I knew how to keep him safe.

I sighed and laid my phone down next to me. Maybe I should go after Draco myself? If I could knock out my threat then maybe I could have a life of my own and I could be with Ryder? I know Draco, I know how to get close to him. I rolled over and pulled my blanket up to my chin. I guess it was time to come up with a plan. I needed Ryder and I was definitely going to do what you needed to do to be with him.

Ryders POV,

I knew she left on her own, but it’s been months and now I have gone crazy. I’m an expert at finding people. I also believe she has been doing this for so long that she knows how to fall off the face of the earth. My life and world are incomplete without my princess. My members have been going out of their minds trying to keep me happy. Nothing works, even Jason has been going insane. Nothing makes me feel better and now I’m getting ready to go into war. My next move is to take out Draco and his gang. The fucking idiot has moved his men closer to me. My men have been watching his. It’s only a matter of time before I go in and slaughter his world.

I heard a knock at my door. “Come in.” The door opened and I heard a familiar voice.

“Hey good looking, how are you?” I turned to see Veronica Catalini come walking over to me. I took a deep breath and knew Jason was behind this. Veronica is a breathtakingly beautiful woman. She is also like a little sister to me. Her father is who took me in off the streets. The man who stepped down and left everything in my hands. She is only a year younger than me and has had a crush on me for years, but she is also the only woman who could calm me down when things got bad in my head.

“Veronica, what are you doing here?” I asked as she wrapped her arms around me and I hugged her back.

“I know you need me.”

“I don’t need you.” She looked up and smiled at me. “You know I’m going to kill Jason, right?”

“He only did what he thought he needed to do for you.” I rolled my eyes. “He is still a dead man and I’m handling things myself. Thank you very much.”

“You know you are happy to see me, Ryder.”

“There is only one woman who is going to make me happy, and it’s not you.” Veronica shook her head and I knew I was being an ass for no reason. “You being here is only putting yourself in danger.”

“Are you new?” I looked at her funny. “Do you not know who my father is? Have you forgotten who you are?”

“No Veronica I haven’t and you being here is going to upset my own focus.” She pushed her lip out at me and I just sighed. “It’s good to see you, but I’m very busy and I can’t have you messing with my focus right now.”

“Why don’t we have dinner together alone tonight and you can fill me in on what’s going on. You can tell me all about her.”

“Fine, but you’re on the first flight out of here in the morning.” She nodded at me and left my office. I went out in search of my X friend. Jason was standing in the kitchen and saw me come walking in. I walked right up to him and punched him in the face.

“Why the fuck Ryder?”

“Don’t go behind my back again. This is your only warning.”

“I didn’t send her here. Her father did.” He said while holding his now bloody nose.

“Only after you called him and told him my business. Your lucky I didn’t just shoot you.”

“Ryder, I only went to him because you need someone to talk to. Don’t punch me again, but Danica left on her own. She chose to run Ryder. You need to let her go. People are talking and having a hard time trusting you lately. Your game is off and you haven’t been handling your responsibilities.” I took a deep breath trying to control my anger at the moment.

“If anyone has a problem they can bring it to me.”

“Why, so you can shoot them? No one is going to do that. You need to snap out of it and get back to being who you are. You know who took out your parents and you still haven’t made a move to go after them. If it wasn’t for Danica. You would have already wiped them out. That’s where your focus should be right now. Not chasing after this girl who ran from you.” I stood there for a moment longer and turned and left the kitchen. I knew Jason would follow me. I tried to slam my office door shut, but Jason grabbed the door before it closed. “I know you love her, but you need to find yourself long enough to take Draco out. Maybe once your threat and hers is dead. She will come back to you.” I agreed with him. Even though I wasn’t going to tell him that. My pride always took over.

I was getting ready for my dinner with Veronica and my balcony was opened. I walked out and the moon was large and bright in the sky. I stood there watching the moon wondering if maybe Danica might be looking at the moon the same time I was. My heart and body craved her touch. At the moment she meant everything to me. My love for her was even stronger than my need for revenge. Nothing has ever been stronger than the need to kill my parent’s murders.

I heard the gunshot. I felt the gunshot. I felt my body fall back and hit the ground. I coughed and tasted the blood in my mouth. I felt my heart speeding. My eyes still watching the moon. I could hear more gunshots, but I couldn’t move.
