Ryder, book 1 of Ryder

Danica’s POV,

I’ve been back with Ryder for over a month now. I don’t think I could be in more love with him if I tried. One of Ryder’s men ended up having to take in their niece. The girl is only seventeen, but she and I have become close. I never leave the house unless I’m with Ryder. I know that I’m free now, but I’m still not comfortable with going out on my own. Lily has tried to get me to take her out. She has been put on homeschool and really doesn’t have too much of a life outside of the house. That’s one reason why she and I have become close. She came from a broken home and I guess her uncle had no idea. He wants to keep her safe and out of trouble. At first, she put up a pretty good fight. She had a bad attitude and wasn’t going to let anyone tell her what to do. That was until Ryder got involved. She pretty much changed her ways overnight.

I paced back and forth in front of the bed. “Danica, you need to calm down. I’m pretty sure the test will be negative. This is the second time you have done this to yourself.”

“It’s difficult and different this time.”

“How so?”

“Because I said so. I can just feel it, Lily.”

“Then why are you so freaked out? I mean Ryder loves you. Don’t you think he would be happy about a baby?”

“Honestly, I have no idea. His sexual appetite is crazy. I’m not complaining but with all the sex. This was bound to happen.” I heard the bedroom door open and Ryder came walking in. Both Lily and I tried to act normal. I knew he wasn’t going to fall for it.

“What are you two up to?” He asked with his arms crossed. I shook my head.

“Danica, don’t lie to me.” I never knew how he did that. He could always see right through me.

“We’re just talking about woman issues.” Lily chimed in. Ryder looked at both of us and just shook his head.

“Yeah, say no more.” He said and started to head towards the bathroom. I knew my test was sitting on the countertop. Fuck, I said to myself.

“Where are you going, baby?” I asked. He stopped and looked at me.

“I need to use the restroom.” Before I could say another word he walked in and closed the door behind him.

“So I’m going to go. Let me know how this works out.” Lily was out the door before I could protest. Fuck, fuck. I said while I bit my nails down. I sat on the edge of the bed waiting for him to come out. I had no idea what the test said. I heard the toilet flush and then I closed my eyes when the door opened.

“Danica, is there something you want to tell me?” I peeked at him.

“I may be pregnant.”

“What do you mean may be?”

“Well, I took the test but I haven’t seen it yet.” He closed his eyes.

“So I’m going to be a father?” My heart started to race.

“I don’t know Ryder. I haven’t seen the test yet.” Ryder held the test up and I walked over to him. I took the test in my hands and sure enough, two lines were looking back at me.

“I thought you were on birth control?” I sighed.

“I was kind of being held against my will. I hadn’t had time to see a doctor. I’m sorry Ryder. I didn’t mean for this to happen, but we have a lot of sex. These things sometimes naturally happen.” Ryder walked past me and took a seat on our bed.

“I’m not upset with you. I just never thought about being a father, and now that it’s in my face. I’m just a little...” he stopped talking and I placed my hand on him.

“I mean me to I never even wanted kids. My life has always been such a mess. There was no way I wanted to be a mom. Only now here I am pregnant. There is nothing more in this world that I want than our child and I know it will be protected here.” Ryder turned and looked at me.

“Then you want to keep it?”

“Yes, I do.” The smile that spread across his face was priceless. It was almost like it surprised him that I wanted his baby. He grabbed me and pulled me into his arms. I giggled as he kissed my face. “Your happy?” He nodded at me.

“Marry me.” My heart stopped beating.

“You heard me. Be my wife.” My mouth fell open.

“Ryder. I... I.” He just smiled at me.

“Danica, you have always had my heart. Even as a small child. I’ve always loved you. We were best friends and then by a miracle, we found our way back to each other. You are carrying my child and I love you. Please be my wife.” It was now my turn and the smile spread across my face. My lips went to his and the next thing I knew our clothes were nothing more than a pile on the floor. “Does this mean yes?” I heard him ask as I laid there in his arms with my head on his chest.

“Yes.” He pulled me back up to his lips and for hours we loved each other. Even though his phone was going off like crazy. I think it was the first time he had ever ignored it. He even had the maids bring dinner up to our room. I spent the day naked with my soon to be husband. In all my life I never thought I was going to be happy, but today was the happiest day of my life.

Ryder and I talked about the wedding. I knew there was going to be no way we could get away with a small wedding. Ryder was attached to too many people. The wedding would more than Likely have over a thousand guests. I told him I wanted to be married before I started to show. We had a window of maybe two to three months. I had to start planning immediately.

Over the next month, I had seriously considered calling the wedding off. It was more work than I had thought it would be. Ryder was actually a huge help, but nothing was decided without my consent. Half the time I didn’t care. Flowers, venue, dress, food, guest list, and on and on. There was even a day I locked myself in the bedroom and refused to come out. There were nights when I begged Ryder to just run away with me to Vegas. All he would do was laugh. It wasn’t funny to me.

Finally, everything was ready to go after two months of hard work. The only thing I haven’t made a final decision on was my dress. I had four dresses that I loved. Ryder got all four dresses when my maid of honor told him how indecisive I was being. When I got to my bedroom. All four dresses were waiting for me. “Come on and pick one. They all look beautiful on you.” Lily said rolling her eyes.

“What one is your favorite?”

“I love the off white one without arms. It makes your boobies pop.” We both giggled. I turned and looked at that dress.

“Let me try it on again.” I grabbed the dress and started to slip it on. The zipper felt a little tight. “Oh no,” I said out loud.

“What’s wrong?”

“The zipper is a little tight and the wedding is still a month away.”

“What going on in here?” We both turned to see Ryder standing in the doorway.

“Damn it Ryder, you’re not supposed to see me in my dress.” He smiled and walked over to me.

“So this is your choice?”

“Well maybe, but it might not fix come wedding day.”I let the dress slip from my body. Ryder took a step back and looked at me.

“Your showing.” My eyes went big and I ran to the bathroom. Sure enough, I did have a little bump.

“We might need to bring this wedding forward.” I hollered out. Ryder and Lily walked into the bathroom. I turned and looked at them both. Only Ryder and Lily knew of my pregnancy. We decided to wait until after the wedding to tell everyone. The wedding was already going to be dangerous enough as it was. Regardless that Draco was gone. Ryder still had enemies. Once the word of the baby got around. I could be in danger. Ryder warned I might be on lockdown. We had to create a fake wedding to throw off our enemies. Changing the date now might not be something we can accomplish.

“It’s okay if we have to size up. It should be no problem.” Lily said.

“Yeah baby, it’s too soon to try and change the date. Too many people flying in from around the country.” I sighed as I touched my little bump. I’m going to need you to try and stay little for just a minute longer. I said to my baby.
