TWENTY FIVE

“Brianna, I need to talk to you.”

“Come on in.” Brianna sat in the bed. She still hadn’t left the room. She seems to be doing better.

“Pam would like to come back and talk with you. Do you think you would be up for that?”

“What does she want to talk about?” I walked in and closed the door. I took a seat in the chair close to her bed.

“She just wants to talk with you about who you are and why you were there.”

“I can tell you that kind of stuff. The doctor doesn’t need to be here for that.”

“Okay, who are you?”

“I already told you my name. I grew up in California in the system. I never knew my real family, but when I turned eighteen. I moved to Las Vegas. I met a girl out there who kind of took pity on me. She had a small apartment and let me sleep on her couch. She even ended up getting me a job with her. She worked at a strip club.”

“So you’re a stripper?” Brianna nodded her head.

“Yes, one of the best.” I lifted my head at her. I could see why she was so desirable. She was incredibly sexy. Her blond curls fell down to the middle of her back. She had bright blue eyes and just a kiss of freckles on her nose. Her body was built like silk. The more her face heals the more I can see her physical beauty. “Anyways, I don’t really know how it happened. One minute I was headed to my car after a long night’s work. The next thing I knew. I was tied up in a room with four other women.”

“How long ago was that?”

“A year.”

“You have been captured for a year?” She nodded her head at me.

“Why weren’t you sold?”

“He liked me too much. I became his and only his.”

“I’m sorry you had to go through that.” She looked away from me and looked towards her window.

“I probably make you sick.”

“Why would you say that?” She made a snicking noise.

“A stripper who has been used sexually for over a year. I’m not exactly what you would call a good choice.” I just shook my head.

“Because you had a choice? Don’t look at yourself like that. You’re a beautiful woman.” She smiled and looked back at me.

“You think so?”

“I do.”

“Thank you, Ryder, that’s means a lot to me.” I knew I was overstepping my bounds. I needed to leave. The last thing I needed was her getting too close to me. I could never be anything to her other than a friend, and I wasn’t very comfortable with that. At the same time, I didn’t want to hurt or break her more than she already was. I was doing my best but my heart belongs to someone else. Brianna would have to understand that.

“I need to know where you would like to go?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean your starting to get better and the men who took you won’t be after you ever again. You’re free and safe now. Would you like to go back to Vegas?”

“I don’t know. I don’t have a place to go anymore.”

“Well, your free to go anywhere you would like.”

“Can I stay here?” I sighed. The only way she could stay here is if she joined my gang or if she was someone’s woman. I just don’t think she is someone who could join us, and she doesn’t belong to anyone.

“Why don’t you just take some time to think about it. I’m not pushing you out. Take your time.” She nodded her head at me. We heard a knock on her door. We both turned and the maid came in a brought her lunch. “I’ll let you eat. I’ll see you later.” She smiled at me and I left her room.

It was dark and late. I was stuck in the office trying to focus on my work, but Danica was the only thing on my brain. I was going through all the things we had on Draco. Nothing was fucking adding up. All it did was piss me off. The frustration was overwhelming me. I heard a light tap on my office door. “Come in.” The door opened and Brianna came walking in. “What are you doing up so late?” I asked her.

“I couldn’t sleep. I wanted some water and I saw your office light on.”

“You really should try and get some sleep. Come on, I’ll take you to get a drink and then back to bed.” I stood up and walked around my desk. That’s when she made her move. She came dangerously close to me and pushed herself against me. I gripped her shoulders and closed my eyes. “What are you doing?” This was bad and all alarms were going off inside my head.

“I’m just trying to thank you the only way I know how.” She whispered out. I pushed her forward. I opened my eyes and I could see the pain in hers.

“I’m sorry Brianna, but all you have to say is thank you. This is not how you do it.” She looked away and moved away from me.

“I’m so sorry. I thought you wanted me.” I just smiled and shook my head.

“I’m happy that I found you and got you out of there safely, and you’re very beautiful, but I belong to someone else.”

“Oh my god. I didn’t know. I’m so sorry.”

“It’s okay, it’s water under the bridge.”

“I’m so embarrassed.”

“Don’t be, let’s go get you that drink and put you back to bed.” I could still see the pain in her eyes and I knew I had just broken her heart. It had to be done. Being with her would mean nothing to me. All it would do was confuse her more and make me push her away. I couldn’t be her hero anymore. The last thing I was, was a hero.

Days went by and things were still the same. I had been keeping myself away from Brianna. I knew that was what was best. The time has come to discuss where she wanted to go. I had to make it clear to her that she couldn’t stay here. Even if she would become part of the family. I just couldn’t take any chances. She had to go. I walked out of my office to find Jules. She had become close with Brianna and I needed her to talk to Brianna about leaving. I had decided that I would set Brianna up anywhere she wanted to go. I would give her a fresh start.

I went out into the hall and that’s where I watched Jason coming out of her room. What was he doing in there? I thought to myself. Maybe she is starting to trust more? I kept walking towards her room. “Hey,” I said and Jason stopped walking. He turned and looked at me.

“What’s up?”

“You tell me?”

“I was just helping Jules. I went out and got some clothes for Brianna. I just dropped them off.” I nodded my head at him. “Why? What’s up Ryder? Has something happened with you and Brianna?” I just shook my head.

“Not anything you need to worry about.”

“Come on Ryder,” Jason said and leans against with wall with his arms crossed. “Tell me you didn’t mess around with that girl? What the fuck is wrong with you? Your child and woman are being held against their will and you’re here fucking around.” I cocked my head at him and the next thing I knew, I had him pressed against the wall by his throat.

“You think that low of me?” I hissed out. Jason was starting to turn blue.

“Boss!” I heard Jules behind me. “Boss, stop it your killing him.” Then I felt her kick in my side and I let Jason go and hit the ground. I looked and Brianna had come out of the room. She had fear in her eyes. Jason was coughing a lung up. Jules had him in her arms.

“Fuck this!” I yelled out and took off.

“Fuck you, Ryder!” I heard Jason holler out at me. Yeah, fuck me. I said as I opened the door to the garage, jumped into a car, and took off. I needed something to happen before I killed everyone around me. I must have been doing over a hundred down the road when my phone went off. I slowed down and pulled it out of my coat pocket. It was a single picture of Danica, but only this time she didn’t look happy. She was beaten and laying in a bed. The text below read,

Our sweet angel is not following the rules. Maybe she needs to be reminded of what’s at stake here?

That’s when I heard a car come flying up next to me. I took one look and then my car was being rattled with bullets. I felt each bullet that penetrated my body. I hit the button to call for help. I have no idea if it went through or not. I lay slumped over when a man walked up to my car and flashed a picture and took off. I blacked out after that.
