TWENTY NINE

Jason’s POV,

“The report from the inside is the same, sir.” I looked up from my computer. I nodded my head and sighed.

“Do you think this will go well?” Brianna asked me.

“It has to work or all will be lost.”

“Your sexy all in charge like you are.” I smiled at her.

“You just want me.” She got up off the couch and made her way to me.

“You know I do.” She said in my ear. Brianna and I got close when everything all went down. She had to go into hiding with the rest of us. Even though no one knew much about her. She was still our responsibility. We had done extensive background checks on her and so far everything she had told us turned out to be true. Besides, it’s what Ryder would have wanted us to do. Brianna had a clingy personality. Once she knew Ryder was gone. She felt lost and eventually, she let me in.

I moved my arm around her waist and pulled her closer to me. As my lips touched hers. I heard the door open. “Why don’t you two get a room,” Robby said smiling.

“Fuck off Robby. What the hell do you want?”

“I need to talk to you.” He eyed Brianna. I nodded at him.

“Why don’t you go find the girls and I’ll find you later?” She smiled at me and kissed my nose. I smack her ass as she turned to leave. She closed the door behind herself.

“Got yourself tangled with that one.”

“She is okay. I like her she keeps me entertained.”

“Yeah, I need some of that.” I just smiled and shook my head. “Anyways, what’s going on? Do we have any reports?”

“Nothing everything is quiet right now,” I said looking down at my computer.

“That’s never a good sign.”

“But with the circumstance, it is a good thing. Everything is going as planned.”

“I’m just wondering how long this secret can hold,” Robby said looking to the ground.

“As long as you keep it together. There should be no problems. You’re keeping your mouth shut right?”

“Of course, she is my friend you know?”

“I know Robby and we have to get her and his child out. I know that son of a bitch has people on the inside.”

“I can’t believe he was dumb enough to come back to the states.”

“It’s his age, he is slipping up and it’s why we need to attack. I won’t let Ryder down. They will come home safe where they belong.”

“You think she knows?” Robby asked with sadness in his eyes.

“I don’t know, but for our sake, I hope she doesn’t. That will kill her.”

“Danica is a strong woman and she has to stay strong for her child. I know she will make it out alive.” Robby had a lot of faith in Danica. Just then there was a knock on the door.

“Come in.” The door opened and Daniel out computer tech came walking in. He closed the door behind him.

“I have some news and you are not going to be happy about it sir.”

“Go on.”

“Danica is pregnant.” Both mine and Robbys mouths fell to the floor.

“Fuck!” I yelled out.

“He has been...” Robby started to say. “Oh my god, Jason we have to get her out of there.” Robby started to pound his fist on the wall.

“Robby calm down.”

“Are you fucking kidding me? We have to go in now.”

“No! We can’t afford to fuck this up. This has to be done right. Or we can fuck it all up. This is not just about getting Danica. We have to kill Draco or it will be all for nothing.” Robby placed his head against the wall. I knew this was killing him, but no matter what I had to keep a level head. We can’t lose Draco. He has to die.

“This is going to break her.” I sighed. I looked over at Daniel.

“Is there anything else?”

“That’s all I have for now sir, I’m sorry.”

“Thank you, Daniel,” I said and he nodded his head and left the room.

“You know what we have to do right?” I sucked my teeth.

“Yes I know, but not now.” Robby gave me a look. “I said not now.” Robby just shook his head.

“Jason I don’t mean to override your authority but I’m a leader too and I need to make sure everything is done right. Now pull your head out of your ass and let’s go.” Robby is a very trusted man to all of us, but right now all I wanted to do was punch his face in. Even though I knew he was right, but I was scared and even though he was pushing. I knew he was scared as well. “Come on.”

“Fuck, I really hate you.” Robby just smiled. “Do you know what this can do?”

“I do, now let’s get this over with.” I grabbed my gun and tucked it into the back of my pants. “What the hell do you need that for?”

“You never know.” Robby shook his head. We walked in silence. Down the long barely lit hallways. The walk took a while and there were many turns. “I hate it down here.” Robby turned and looked at me.

“You have a fear of the dark?” I just looked back at him.

“Yeah, that’s it,” I said shaking my head.

“It’s not like it’s a picnic for me either.” We kept walking. I swear it took us forever to get there. Then the steel doors were in front of us. Robby spent most of his time here. I had too much work to take care of. Too many promises to keep. Robby opened the door and we stepped in. I closed the door behind us. We walked over to the cleanroom. There he laid and I hated to see him this way. He turned his head and looked at us. “He is better today.”

“He doesn’t look it. You really think this is a good idea?”

“Yes, I do, more to fight for.” I had to agree with Robby.

“Don’t just stand there.” He said and we both moved closer to him. “What’s that look, Jason?” I sighed.

“I have some bad news.” He closed his eyes.

“Is she...?”

“No, nothing like that.” He sighed.

“Then what is it?” Robby looked away.

“Danica is pregnant.” Ryder turned his head away from us.

“Get me out of this fucking bed.” I sighed.

“You know you can’t do that. You have to trust me. I will handle this. No one can know your alive.”

“I might as well be fucking dead. I can’t even feel my legs.” Seeing Ryder like this was killing me. No one knew about Ryder. Not even the men he trusted the most. Only his doctors, Robby, and I knew the truth, and it had to stay that way. We knew Draco believed that Ryder was dead. He never would have come back to America if he didn’t believe it. “Jason, you have to promise me that you will tear him apart if I can’t do it.” I could see the tears in his eyes. I knew he was broken even more than he already was. Ryder had taken one of the bullets to his spinal cord. He hasn’t been able to feel his legs since. He had taken eleven bullets total. When he was found he was dead. But the doctors were able to bring him back. There was a little to no chance that he wasn’t going to make it, but this son of a bitch is too much of a fighter to die that easily.

The doctors think there may be a chance for him to walk again, but he needs more surgery on his spine to know for sure. He still has a long road ahead of himself. All he cares about is Danica and his son. The fight he has in him has allowed him to move his toes some. We have a plan in motion now. We heard the news that Danica had killed our first part of the plan. All Ryder could say was, that’s my girl. It was hard enough to get the first guy in. Now that Owen is in place. We can’t afford to fuck it up. “Jason,” Ryder said as he reached out and grabbed my arm. I looked him in the eyes.

“I promise you I will save her and rip his sorry ass into pieces. Even if it kills me.” Ryder closed his eyes. Robby was a mess. Here we are three of some of the toughest men in the world and we all had tears in our eyes. All of this was breaking us. I had to stay strong for Ryder for Danica and all of our members and family. I placed my hand on top of his.

“She is my world, my light.”

“I know man, I know.”

“I’m helpless.”

“No your not,” Robby said and put his hand up. Showing Ryder his missing hand. “I didn’t let this break me and you’re not going to let this break you. You’re going to get better and you’re going to fuck some shit up. I promise you that. Your Ryder Dankworth and eleven bullets couldn’t stop you. This will not stop you either.”

“I knew I like you,” I said and Robby just smiled at me.

“But a minute ago you hated me.”

“It comes and goes in waves. What can I say.” We both looked back at Ryder. He was just looking up at the ceiling. The doctor walked over to us.

“We’re going to do his next surgery first thing in the morning.”

“Good,” Ryder said.

“We feel you are strong enough.” Ryder nodded his head.

“It’s about damn time. Something needs to start happening.” I smiled at him. All I knew was the plan needed to start happening soon. We had to get her before that baby was born. God only knew what Draco would do once the baby was born.
