THIRTY

I lay on the ground looking at what I know was the ceiling. I could hear Nash calling out to me, but it was far away. Memories just flooded and made me feel sick to my stomach. I rolled over and all the contents of my stomach came up. When it was overall I felt was a strong headache. “Carolina baby, are you okay?”

“Yes, please get me some water.” Nash left I laid there trying to understand what had just happened to me. Then it all came flooding back. I remembered everything. I remembered Nash and Cordel. I remembered everything up until the crash. I scrambled to my feet and started to turn all the water on. Nash came back in and looked at me like I was a madwoman. I knew the only person I could trust was Nash. He would know what to do.

“Carolina, are you okay?” I ran past him and closed the bathroom door. I was promised there were no cameras in the bathroom, but still, I looked around. I went over to his side.

“I remember,” I whispered into his ear. He looked at me.

“That’s amazing, you remember everything?” I placed my fingers to my lips and shh him. Still looking at me funny. I whispered in his ear.

“Were being watched.”

“What are you talking about Carolina?” I took a deep breath.

“I’m being blackmailed by DeAngelo and Cordel.” Nash’s eyes went huge.

“You need to tell me everything.”

“Do you remember the nasty text messages I had received before you left?” Nash nodded his head at me. “They were from DeAngelo. About six months before my accident. DeAngelo pulled me into the bathroom. He tried to do things with me but I had refused. Then he proceeded to tell me that I was going to be doing whatever he wants from thereon. I was confused until he started to tell me that he could have my family murdered or placed in prison for the rest of their lives. He showed me evidence that he had taken from my father’s office. That could do exactly what he was threatening. I was either going to marry him or join my family. I had no choice.”

“I’m going to fucking murder him.”

“You can’t do anything to him, but that’s not even the worse part.”

“There’s more?” I nodded my head at him.

“I think I know who shot me.” Nash’s eyes got huge. ” The whole house has been tapped. We are all being listened to and watched. Just a month after DeAngelo pulled his shit and I went into submissive. Right before I announced my plans to merry DeAngelo. Cordel confronted me. I thought for sure he wanted to talk about DeAngelo. He pulled the wool off my eyes. He grabbed me out of nowhere one day and pulled me into a closet. He pressed me against the wall and at first, I just thought that he was trying to seduce me. I was so depressed by what was happening with DeAngelo that I started to play into him. That was until I felt the cool steel of his gun pressed into my neck.” I could see the anger playing on Nash’s face.

“What the fuck did he want?”

“Everything, he used me, Nash. He never cared about me. He played me and I let him. I let him right into my family and my home. I now had one man threatening to have my family put in prison and another man threatening to kill them. Both of which I knew they could pull off. I’m pretty sure they were now working together but I don’t know one hundred percent. I didn’t know what to do but follow orders. I gave Cordel anything he wanted, and DeAngelo, well I gave him what he wanted.”

“What did DeAngelo want Carolina?” I looked away from his eyes, feeling extremely ashamed of myself. Nash reached out and pulled my chin up so that I would face him. “Tell me, princess.” I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

“Before the accident, DeAngelo shared my bed.” Nash stood up and started to pace the room. His fist was balled up at his sides. “Nash, please don’t hate me, but I would do anything to protect my family. I didn’t have a choice. DeAngelo never asked me for anything but sex and me. I don’t even think he wanted to get after my family. I think It was all about me.” Nash looked over at me.

“He won’t touch you again.” I gave Nash a small smile.

“Right now it’s not DeAngelo we need to worry about and god to think I apologized to him. Cordel is the bigger threat here. He is trying to get his family in. The people that took me and kept me with Cordel. They want to take my father out and take control of the mafia.” Nash came back to my side.

“Listen to me Carolina, you are going to keep acting like you don’t remember anything. Since your accident, none of them have tried anything with you. They both know you’re pretty much useless right now. You are no threat to them. We found out today about Cordel.” My mouth fell open.

“What? How?”

“He has been slipping and we knew we had a trader among us. We have been searching since you got shot. Only your father, his close men and I know. Not even DeAngelo was in the office.”

“I’m scared Nash, he has this hole place under surveillance.” Nash took a deep breath.

“Not for long, I’m going to have a talk with your father.” I reached out and grabbed his arm.

“You have to be careful, this could get you all killed.” Nash leans down and kissed my lips.

“This problem is not yours any longer. You stay here and as far as anyone is concerned you still don’t have your memories back.” I nodded at him and watched him walk out of the bathroom. My mind was spinning. If Cordel gets wind of this. He will kill everyone. I turned the water off and left the bathroom. I pulled my hair up and put some sweats on and laid in my bed. I had to trust that Nash was going to take care of everything. I had no idea how my father would react to the news. I was sure only my father and brother were going to know the truth. I couldn’t believe that they already knew Cordel was the trader.

I knew there would be a plan put into place and a war was going to start. I had no idea what they were going to do to DeAngelo. I knew my father would kill him, but I didn’t know if DeAngelo was working alone or not. Maybe if something happened to him. The proof he had on my family would end us all.

That’s when there was a knock at my bedroom door. I pulled myself out of my bed and walked over to the door. I opened it and my heart almost fell out of my ass. Cordel stood there with a huge smile on his face. My heart started to pound. What could he possibly want? What does he know?” Get a grip Carolina, your going to give yourself away. “Cordel, hi.”

“Hey beautiful, I just wanted to see how you were doing.” I smiled at him.

“I’m doing good, still have a messed up head, but other than that I’m okay.”

“Everyone seems to be busy today. Would you like to have lunch with me?”

“You know I’m not allowed to leave the house.”

“No I know, I just thought like maybe out by the pool or something. Even here in your room maybe.” I started to nod my head at him.

“Sure, we can do that.” I wonder what he was up to. He made it perfectly clear that he never gave a shit about me. So what is he up to?

“Great, I miss you. I know you don’t remember us, but I do. Meet me out by the pool at noon.” I nodded at him and he walked off. I pulled my cell out and sent Nash a text about Cordel. I sat on the side of my bed waiting. There was a lot that needed to be discussed with my father. I wasn’t sure when I would hear from Nash. Nash ended up coming into my room about twenty minutes later. He walked into my closet and came out with a suitcase.

“Nash, what’s going on?”

“You’re leaving here tonight.”

“You got to watched what you’re saying.”

“Don’t worry, the single has been scrambled. It’s only a matter of time until the traders know we know. You are on your way to a new safe house. Only your father, brother, and I know about it. We have to sneak you out of here. DeAngelo and been murdered.” My eyes got huge.

“You already got to him?”

“No princess, your brother found him with a gunshot to the head. Something big is going down and I have to get you out of here.”

“You’re coming with me right?” He stopped and stood there looking at me.”

“Your father needs me.”

“But I need you more.” He walked over to me and our foreheads came together.

“You will be beyond protected, let me help bring this all to an end.” I sighed and understood, but I still would have felt better with Nash being with me.

“What am I supposed to do about Cordel?” Nash looked at me funny. “Didn’t you get my text?” Nash pulled his phone out of his pocket.

“Fuck, it’s dead. What about Cordel?” I told him about my lunch with him today. “Keep it, you have to keep playing the memory thing for now. We can’t get you out until tonight. He can’t know anything is wrong.” I nodded at Nash and took a deep breath.
