Chapter 43

I got out of the shower and went back into the room, hoping to clean up before Damon returned. I didn’t want him to see that. I would tell him in my own time, but not like this. He’d kill Tommy and I couldn’t let him do that. Tommy’s family would press charges and I couldn’t bear the thought of seeing Damon go to jail.

But seeing the mess again really fucked me up. I knew Tommy was an asshole, but I never pegged him as a raping asshole. I instantly regretted having anything to do with him and wondered how I could have “stayed” with him for so long. He was poisonous and my revenge would come soon.

I began scooping up the broken glass on the floor when the door whipped open and Damon’s worried expression greeted me. His eyes went everywhere before he slammed the door and rushed over to me.

“Carla called me. What the fuck happened, Taylor?”

“Who’s Carla?”

“She lives across the hall. Purple hair. Piercings.”

Ah, the bitch who took two hundred bucks from me for his keys that were now mine.

“Oh. Yeah, it’s nothing.”

He grabbed my face and forced me to look at him.

“This is not nothing. The place is a mess and your face is red! Is that a fucking bite mark?!” He was clearly angry and not the kind of energy I needed right now. “She said Tommy was here and it got ugly. What the fuck did he do to you, Taylor? Tell me right now!”

I pushed his hands away and kept cleaning up.

“We just had an argument. He was upset when I told him that we were through and he found out that I’d been sleeping with you. He lost it. Broke my shit.” It was a lie but I wasn’t ready to let that nasty four letter word leave my mouth just yet. My head hasn’t fully wrapped itself around what Tommy had truly done to me.

Then I watched Damon’s eyes move to my torn panties on the floor as he grabbed them before I could. He stood up and stared at them as his shoulders tensed. But it was when his eyes moved to the bed and saw the blood stain that he really morphed into a beast.

“Did he- he rape you?” His voice was so soft that I barely heard him. I couldn’t breathe. His face turned red and the veins began to pop out on his neck and forearms. “Did he hurt you?!” He screamed and I flinched.

“Yes,” I whispered so softly that I barely caught it, but it was clear that he heard me loud and clear.

He lunged toward the door and I panicked.

“Damon!” I ran up to him and blocked him from leaving. “Don’t go. Please. I’m begging you!” I started to sob, unable to control my emotions.

“He fucking put his hands on you, Taylor! I’m going to rip his fucking arms off and beat him to death with them!” He shook and I’d never seen him like this. It was terrifying.

“If you go after him, he wins. You don’t know him like I do. You don’t know his family. You’ll never see the light of day again. Please. I’m asking you to stay with me.”

His face slightly softened as he looked down at me. Then he brought his hand up and rubbed his thumb over the bite mark on my cheek.

“He hurt you, Taylor. Now I’m going to hurt him.”

“But don’t you see? If you hurt him, that only hurts me more. I just got you back. Please don’t leave me again.” Tears ran down my face as I pleaded with my eyes.

His jaw ticked but he took his hand off of the door handle before he pulled me into his arms. I couldn’t help the sobs that racked through my body as I held him tightly. I’ve been craving his embrace and I finally got it. I just wish it weren’t under these circumstances.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t here,” he whispered into my hair before he kissed the top of my head. His arms seemed to tighten around me before he picked me up and carried me to his bed. “Rest while I clean this mess up. I don’t want you stepping on any glass.”

He set me down but I didn’t want to let him go.

His chuckle made his chest vibrate. “Taylor, I’m not going anywhere. Just let me clean this up. Looking at it only makes me more fucking pissed.”

I let go of him and watched him move around the room, cleaning as he went. I curled up in his bed and watched him work as I let out a sigh.
