Chapter 45

Damon never came back last night and I’ve been looking for him all over this morning, but he was nowhere to be found. Where the hell was he?! But as I continued through the courtyard to my first class of the day, two officers approached me. My heart sank and I instantly thought about Damon. Something bad happened. Ohmygod!

“Are you Taylor Clark?”

I nervously looked between the two of them and wasn’t sure if I should reply honestly or not.

“Yes,” I finally replied.

“We were tipped off that you were sexually assaulted yesterday and would like to question you about it.”

I quickly whipped my head back and forth, hoping nobody was listening to this conversation right now. I didn't need more rumors and shit flying around campus about me.

"Is this going to take long? I have classes all day."

"Only a moment, Ms. Clark. Please, come with us."

I nodded and followed the officers to their squad car. There was no way people didn't just see me getting escorted by two officers and put into the back seat, but I'll deal with that later.

My heart was pounding out of my chest and I wondered who told. Was it Carla? The bitch wasn't there to help me when I was screaming for help and now she wants to help? Or, maybe it was Damon. But would he do that without telling me first? Surely not.

When we got to the station, I was brought into an interrogation room and waited for a good ten minutes before a woman in a black pant suit came in and smiled warmly at me. I smiled back and shifted in my seat.

"Is this going to take long?" I asked again.

She sat down in front of me and plopped a file down.

"I won't keep you any longer than necessary, Ms. Clark."

"It's Taylor," I corrected her. Hearing her call me Ms. Clark felt strange and made me think of my horrid mother.

"Some evidence came in last night with some pretty damning information." She flipped open the folder and slid a piece of paper out. "Did Tommy sexually assault you yesterday afternoon?"

I chewed on my bottom lip and stared at the fat folder in front of her. What was in there?!

"Ms. Clark, I need you to answer the question."

"What happens if I say yes?"

She sighed. "Well, we'd move forward with pressing charges against him, showing the judge the DNA evidence and I'm assuming he'd be charged with a felony and face some time behind bars."

I stared at her across the table. His entire life would be ruined. But that wasn't my problem.

"What evidence do you have to support this?"

She cocked an eyebrow at me. "Are you saying that he didn't sexually assault you?"

"I didn't say that," I whispered.

Her gaze held mine for a long moment before she opened the folder again and slid two more papers out.

"I have several eyewitnesses that heard the assault and saw him leaving your dormitory room. And then there's these." She slid two pictures forward and I saw my torn panties in one and my bloodied blanket in the other.

My heart sank. Damon did this.

"So, I will ask you this one more time. Did Tommy…"

"Yes," I cut her off. There was no denying it now, and why should I? He deserves what's coming to him and maybe now that he'll be a known rapist, my dad will get off my back.

She nodded once at me and slid the photos back into the folder. "The evidence is there, Ms. Clark. I just received the DNA samples from both parties. Now I'd like to do a rape kit on you."

I felt my cheeks flush. "I took a shower afterwards."

"I figured as much. His DNA will most likely be gone, but the damage will still be there. Are you okay with this? You'll need to go to the hospital to have this done." Then her eyes and demeanor completely softened. "And if I were you, Ms. Clark, I'd stop at the pharmacy on the way home and purchase a Plan B tablet. You can never be too careful."

She stood up to leave, waving at the guard to open the door and I felt my heart sink. I never thought about if this would leave me pregnant. How stupid can I be?
