Chapter Two

True to his word her husband-to-be shows up about halfway through the night. The smell of warm chocolate fills the bar and wraps her in its embrace before she even lays eyes on him.

His black jeans cling to his muscular thighs, he filled out even more in the last three months since they had made their mating official, and his dark navy T-shirt shows off the definition in his abs and pecs and the sleeved straining against his tan arms.

Asuna smiles as he saunters over to the bar and leans his forearms against the counter, a massive grin on his face.
"Hi," he says as she reaches down into the fridge and passing him the cold beer. She'd seen Gus sneak the one she left for Tony at the table.

"Hey." She licks her lips before turning her attention back to the bar. Luna seems to have been correct. Her heat is well on its way.

"I've decided on my wedding party." His statement snaps her attention back to him and she drops the dirty cloth on the counter.

"What? Who? Have you told Tracy?" The questions fall from her mouth before she can start sorting through them in her head.

Tony laughs at her reaction and cups her face.

"Gus and Frankie. I told Tracy as soon as I asked them." He replies and runs his thumb over her bottom lip, his eyes darkening.

Asuna's breathing starts getting faster and she forces herself to pull away from her mate.

"Call the last call," he murmurs and starts reaching for the bell at the edge of the bar.

"I can't. Three more hours," she whispers taking the bell out if his reach and he growls softly sending moisture between her legs.

"Is Adrian's office free?" he steps next to the bar and starts walking toward the office.

"Yes. I'm alone here tonight. I can't leave the bar." as if called into action one of the patrons starts walking toward the bar.

"Asuna! Madame Le Strange! Can I have four beers and two margaritas, if you please?" Andrew Parker asks as he reaches the bar and Asuna laughs leaving her mate stiff in his already tight jeans.

"Coming right up, Mr Parker," she says taking the triangular glasses from their places and placing them on the counter.

Tony keeps his eyes on her as he walks toward his friends and joining them at their table. She meets his eyes as she shakes the alcohol and pours it in the two glasses.

Asuna chases Andrew back to his pack before placing his order on a tray and walking over, squeezing between the bodies filling the establishment.

Her mate's gaze burns her back as she passes their table hearing them talking about the wedding.

"Thanks, sweetness," Andrew says placing his friend's drinks in front of them and Tony's warning growl vibrated through the crowd. Asuna rolls her eyes at Andrew and the Parker pack Beta grins broadly in response.

She pauses briefly beside her mate and plants a lingering kiss on his lips before pulling herself away and back to the bar, knowing anything other than a quick kiss would lead to more.

Two and a half hours later a howl pierces the air in the bar and the streets. Every single wolf rises in unison and walks toward the entrance.

Gus and Tony are the first to reach the door and heads into the streets where Alistair's wolf stood at the head.

Beside him stands a man that Asuna had hoped never to see again.

Her adopted brother.

Lucas Lancolm.

He's paler than she remembers.

She grabs hold of Tony's arm as she made her way to the front of the crowd.

The scent of death overpowers her nose as Lucas comes closer and Alistair lets out a warning growl, stopping him from approaching Asuna.

"Gab - I mean, Asuna." His voice reaches her and she looks at Alistair, who moves to put himself in front of his son and daughter-in-law.

"Lucas? What are you doing here?" she presses herself against Tony, seeking comfort from his heat. She could feel how tense he was.

"I had to see that you were okay." her brother says as he takes another step forward.

"I'm a little hurt that I haven't gotten an invitation to your wedding." he takes another step forward and Tony, Gus and Andrew steps forward to stand beside Alistair's wolf.

"I'm fine, as you can see, Luc. I didn't think you would have any interest in being at my wedding. I didn't fit in the family."

Asuna looks at the man she once called brother and registers small details. His skin was paler than normal, the whites of his eyes blue. His normally brown irises flash red now and then.

"You, on the other hand, don't look too great." Lucas starts snarling before he stops the action when a chorus of growls deafens him.

"What happened to you?" she asks as Tony moves back and puts an arm around her shoulders.

"Can we talk? Alone?" he asks and Tony stiffens beside her, his hand tightening on her upper arm.

"No way, vampire. I don't care if you're her family, one of us is going with her." Tony says harshly.

"Alistair, would you mind accompanying me?" Asuna asks knowing Tony's point was not up for debate.

Lucas is a vampire? How long?

Her father-in-law snorts in agreement and a hurt expression flashes over Tony's face. She wraps her arm around his waist and pushes herself closer to him.

"It's not that I don't want you there. Your dad has been around longer and knows Vampires. I don't." she says through their link and he squeezes her.

She tells Tony where to find the keys to the bar and asks him to lock up. Most of the patrons had decided to leave upon the appearance of the vampire.

The witches had a good relationship with both races.

But the two races did not get along that well.

The wolves abhorred the Vampires but they were tolerated when they passed through Forest Springs.

The Vampires hated the life out of the wolves and extended the same courtesy to them when they passed through Blood Creek.

Alistair leads them to the Pack House before disappearing upstairs to shift and get dressed.

The silence reigning between Lucas and Asuna could be cut with a butcher's knife and they both sigh in relief when Alistair appears at the top of the stairs.

"We'll convene in the dining room. Asuna, Luna says you can just place the sample menu's from the caterers on thebaine Marie." Asuna nods at Alistair's words and makes her way to the dining room. The entire table was covered in papers and material samples.

Gathering the menu's from the far end of the table she puts them in a neat pile on the baine-marie

The scent of death precedes her adoptive brother's entrance into the dining room followed by Alistair's refreshing pine.

Lucas waits for Alistair to move to the head of the table and for Asuna to take a seat. The two men sit down and Lucas places his hands on the table.

"I'm a Vampire, G...Asuna." He says and looks her in the eyes.

"I figured that out. Not just by my mate calling you that, but by the fact that you reek of death. The rotting kind not the sweet, about to become part of the earth kind." he grimaces at her words and Alistair hides a smile behind his hand.

"When and where did it happen? Did you want it?" she asks as she looks at Lucas, who starts fidgeting at her last question.

"I guess I should tell you what happened after you ran away," he says meeting her gaze once again.

Alistair places a hand on her arm as she takes a deep breath and nods.
