1. Unveiled
Both Draco and Adelaide (Adele) were in seventh year. They were good friends for a few years by now.

Adelaide’s POV

First day back to Hogwarts and I was very happy. It was like my second home, because the house where I lived with my parents and older sister was a big mansion, and it always looked as if it were empty. I don’t say that my sister isn’t good company, she definetely is, but I’ve missed my friends as I spent the summer in our manor. Hogwarts is my house for nine months a year, and more if I can make it, but usually my sister wants me back home for summer. I was getting ready to leave. “Bye Diana!“, I shouted to my sister and departed. Luckily, I could Apparate and be there on time.

Draco’s POV

I saw Adele on the way to the train. She looked stunning today. She’d grown so handsome over the summer. I wanted to ask her out since last year, but I can’t work out the nerves. I mean, we’re best friends and all, but I just couldn’t make the first move. I didn’t want all of our friends to think I’m simping. But she trusts me more than her friends, as we were fellow Death Eaters (both of us had no choice, or else we’d have never joined) and she’s Voldemort’s daughter. She’s more of a friend, the person I’m always together with. She seeks comfort in my arms, and when she’s scared I whisper in her ear. I caught her in a quick hug.

“Hey, Dele.” “Oh, hi, Draco, it’s you”, she sighed.

Adelaide’s POV

It was only him. I was lucky I had him. I had missed his soft touch, his cold hands, his gray eyes and his white hair. I had missed h i m. The Death Eaters meetings weren’t the place for that kind of thing. We only had to be serious, saying ‘yes’ and ‘no’. “I’ve missed you, I love you”, I whispered in his ear. “I love you too Adele, but not right here. Let’s get to the train and find a compartment.” We got to train and reached Hogwarts, nothing special happening. Be careful not to mention your real surname to anyone, I told myself.

Draco’s POV

I got off the train with her and we both went to the carriages. After a short journey, we’d reached Hogwarts and were off for the feast. When the feast ended, Dumbledore signaled Adele and I to go up. At first, I thought it was really suspicious but it got explained in a minute. “So,” Dumbledore began, “Miss Hale and Mr Malfoy, I would like to tell you that there are arranged sleeping schedules for you both, and I think you would find better if you shared a room with two beds. You are excused.” Whoa, take it slow! We gonna sleep in the same bed or what?! I thought.

Adelaide’s POV

First night at my new dorm. And I can say, it wasn’t the most comfortable place. I liked it a lot, and Draco was a lovely person, but I was uncomfortable sleeping in the same room with him. Yes, we’d known each other for years, but I still remember sleeping with Lyssa in my dorm, then her waking me up in the mornings. I got ready to sleep, put on my nightgown (which was a very short black dress, and indeed I didn’t want Draco to see me with this, as I always wear jeans and sweatshirts just to cover my body), and curled under my bed. I had just opened the novel which I wanted to finish reading as Draco entered the room, looking very solemn. I looked up in surprise. “What happened Draco?“. Silence. “Oh... Well... This came in the post today. You can see for yourself.” I opened the letter.

~Draco, it is no longer safe to contact us. The Dark Lord, apparently, is always asking why you aren’t doing your job and where you are. Please, try to stay safe. I know Adelaide is in the same position too, but I thought her father wouldn’t be harsh on her. But he wants to kill both you and her, so that’s why I arranged for you to have a bedroom with her. In case he entered Hogwarts, he would come to find you two. I want you both to stay safe, and don’t go to Quidditch or anywhere alone, always with company. Show Adelaide the letter too please, and let her know that she has a place in my heart. Love, Narcissa

Draco’s POV

The letter shocked me so much. I never knew of the Dark Lord to keep any promises, but we were loyal to him. As for Adele, the Dark Lord was never known to actually care for people, but this time he’d gone too far. Threatening your own daughter to kill her! It was a sign that he wasn’t human. “Adele. I know it’s too much... I feel it sometimes with my father too.” “No, Draco, it’s not the same. Has your father ever tried to kill you with that one spell?” she said, wiping her tears. “Shh, it’s okay.“, I whispered, “come here”, I said, making space in my bed for her. She climbed up and I gave her her favorite book, I took one too, and she rested her head on my chest. “You don’t know how long it was since I saw you happy.” I smiled at her. “I do, but never mind that. Why do you wanted us to sleep together?” “So we aren’t lonely.” “Umm, Draco, I don’t know about you, but with my father at home, I have never slept with teddy bears, night lights or anyhing since I was four.” I laughed. “With my father at home and my mother dead, I never had much company at home. That’s why I try to stay at Hogwarts as long as I can.” “I don’t sleep with something too, but our house-elf sings to me every night before I sleep.” “Great.” she stared at me. “I’ll close the light now.” I turned to face the wall and started thinking.

Adelaide’s POV

I couldn’t sleep tonight. Narcissa’s letter was expected and unexpected at the same time. When I say expected I mean that I always knew that my father would want to hurt me, sooner or later. When I say unexpected, I mean that I’d stayed with Narcissa and Lucius a few times, but I didn’t expect Narcissa to make arrangements at the school for me and warn me at the same time. I didn’t want to sleep right now, but I wished I’d been given a chance to see Narcissa one last time.

Draco’s POV

Next morning Adele woke me up. She was looking tired, and had dark circles under her eyes. I took her hand in mine. “Look, Adele, I had a vision, not only a vision, and the Dark Lord’s coming here today. We need to take care of where we go. My Dark Mark burned. See yours too.” She took up her sleeve and shown me the mark on her shoulder. “I know, I tried to ignore it, because I can hide the pain. But when I feel it, I just know something is going to happen. On those past years, you might have noticed how I am on the Death Eater meetings? You see, every time I see those faces I know something’s wrong. I have panic attacks but I manage to hide them every day. You see sometimes when my breathing isn’t very stable, and when I almost fall to the floor in pain, you are there, but you can’t do anything. You remember the Carrows, Draco?” Adele took a deep breath. “Well, of course, if there weren’t a whole bunch of other Death Eaters, they would’ve accidentally killed themselves.” I laughed coldly, remembering them. “Draco, don’t laugh. For me, the damage they’ve done to me is not funny. Adele lifted her shirt. There were blade marks and there was blood everywhere. “Alecto did that. Because I didn’t listen to my father.” She lifted up her skirt a little to reveal her skinny legs. There were stitches on her left leg and blood all over her right leg. “And Amycus almost cut my leg off. I had to get stitches, and I still can’t go a step without this.” She muttered a spell I didn’t know, and I saw a pair of crutches appear. “And... Wait, how did nobody realize that you have crutches? I asked in surprise. “Well, they’re invisible. And as long as I’m not too obvious, nobody knows.” She sighed. ” “Adele, I’m so sorry. Only if I’d known... You could’ve told someone, anyone.” I felt so bad for her, not having anyone to help her, and she went through all this. Poor baby. “No I couldn’t. Even your mother, she might turn for the bad.” I took some straps of her hair and played with it. She started crying and whispered: “My mom did that when I was young. You remind me so much of her, Draco.” I looked at her. “Your mother’s... dead?” “Well, yeah, she is. Father had turned her into a Horcrux, but anyway he didn’t love her anymore and decided to ruin their “eternal love”. And as you can guess, the only sure way was to kill her.” “Adele, why didn’t you tell me anything?” “I couldn’t.” “Look, if you want to discuss anything, I’m here for you.” “Now we shall get going, not want to be late do we?” “No”, I laughed, but on the inside I was crying.

Adelaide’s POV

Draco’s been quite good to me over those past few days. However, I flinch as I remember that night we slept in the same bed. I haven’t told anyone (not even Lyssa) as I didn’t want to be made fun of. I didn’t want to discuss this with him, because it was the night I’d revealed who I am under my invisible veil.
