15: Orphan

I made it near the palace gates after running home in wolf form. The two guards ran towards me when they spotted me.

"Alpha Prince, your parents are worried sick inside."

I nodded, "Thank you, Alexander."

I ran up the steps and made it inside. My parents were standing in the foyer with Devin and some other guards.

"Logan," Devin shouted when he saw me.

My parents turned around and I could see my mother was crying. I walked quickly to them and instantly my mother pulled me into a tight hug.

"My sweet boy, thank goodness you're alright." She sniffled into my chest, "I thought I lost you again."

I gave my mother a tight squeeze, "I'm sorry Mom. I didn't mean to worry you."

My father placed a hand on my shoulder, "I'm glad you're okay, son." He let out a relieved sigh. "But what were you thinking running off late at night and unaccompanied at that?"

"Yeah man, you could've came to me and I would've gone with you to do whatever it is you went off to do." Devin chimed in.

I let go of my mother, stepped back, and stared at all of them guiltily. "I needed to go on a run. I have a lot on my mind and didn't know what else to do to help get my mind off these things."

"Oh my sweet boy. You know you can come to us and we can help with whatever is bothering you." My Mom said as she gave my arm a slight squeeze.

"Yeah, maybe next time I should because something happened." All three stared at me with curiosity, waiting for me to spill.

"I was ambushed by three Vampires. They came out of nowhere like they were waiting for me."

My mother's face was in shock, Devin's face turned to a scowl, and my father's face was grim.

"Like they were waiting for you?" My father asked and I nodded.

"How do these Vamps know where the hell to find you?" Devin said this as a statement and not a question. "First they wait for you at the club then they wait in the forest."

"There is someone or something else at play here." My father said as he started to hum. "Which leads me back to the witches."

"Dad, we went over this. They are not involved." I calmly told him.

"Son, you do remember the history of the Lycans. Witches were the cause of the Lycans' demise, using dangerous magic that could get themselves killed."

"Dad, I'll talk to Amira tomorrow."

"The Darkholme orphan?" My father's eyes had fiery in them. "You're putting your trust in that girl? Her father was trouble and there's no doubt she is as well!"

"Dad! You can't blame someone for their parents’ choices. I trust her and she's important to me... to us." I caught my words too late as my parent's surprised faces showed.

"We'll talk about this in the morning... go to bed." My father's voice was calm, but I knew he was going to rip me apart come morning.

My mother hugged me and whispered, "Everything will be fine. I'll have a word with your father." She kissed me on the cheek before walking away.

Devin and I headed to our rooms. As we were walking, Devin blurted out, "You had sex with her, didn't you."

I turned to him and he gave me a knowing look. "I can faintly smell her all over you."

He had a grin on his face, "Told you, you liked her."

"Shut up." I playfully nudged him with my shoulder and smirked to myself, looking down at the floor.

I think I more than just like her...

The next morning, I was all ready to head out of my bedroom, but as soon as I opened the door, my father was waiting for me. Fuck!

"We need to talk, Logan." Oh this wasn't good. Dad never called me by my name, it was either son or my boy. I stepped back and he entered my room.

"I'm only going to tell you this once." His tone left no room for argument. "You can have all the fun you want with the Darkholme Witch. But when it's time for you to marry, I expect you to find yourself a good She-Wolf to be Queen."

"What if don't want to be Alpha King!" I said through clenched teeth, stopping myself from shouting. "All because of the stupid throne... Do you want to lose me for another ten years again?"

My father's face was no longer angry, but he showed no other emotion. He didn't say anything as he wasn't expecting those words to come out of my mouth. I just walked out of my bedroom, leaving him to his thoughts.

I found Devin downstairs already eating. I wasn't hungry as I had lost my appetite. All I wanted to do was get to Amira and take in her scent to calm me down. Was it a mistake for me to want her and only her?

I yanked Devin away before he could grab seconds. We took the Jeep to drive to Amira's. The Jeep we had left back at the motel was finally picked up and brought to the palace.

When we were finally standing in front of the tree that had Amira's house, I knocked on the tree trunk three times. Since we couldn't see the door because they had it hidden with a spell, Savannah had told us during lunch yesterday that if we knocked three times a doorbell went off inside. I stood back and we watched as the door appeared. The door swung open and it was Savannah who answered.

She flashed a mischievous grin at me, "Lover boy is back for more."

Devin snickered from behind me and Savannah's grin widened even more at seeing him. "Hey Devin."

She moved back and opened the door wider. "Come on in you guys." We walked in and headed to the living room.

"You guys want something to drink or eat?"

"No thanks." I said.

"Sure." Said Devin. This guy just finished eating breakfast not long ago.

"Great! Come to the kitchen." Savannah pulled Devin with her to the kitchen. I shook my head, looking down at the floor, amused by how Devin didn't realize that Savannah was into him. He probably thought she was just being nice.

"Hi." I looked up to the sound of her voice.

Amira was standing by the living room entryway, looking as beautiful as ever. Those delicious red lips, and her short dark hair was pinned back on the sides. She had on a tight grey velvet shirt, a plaid black and grey skirt that barely covered her thighs, and mid-calf black laced boots.

"Hey..." Was all I said as I was in a trance just looking at her.

She walked towards me and our eyes didn't break contact. When she was close enough for me to reach her, I quickly grabbed her. She let out a surprised shriek. I pulled her against my body with one arm wrapped around her waist and my other hand caressing her face.

"You are so damn beautiful, you know that." A low growl escaped from my throat. I leaned my head into the nook of her neck to savor the smell of her scent before placing a kiss below her earlobe.

"Are you always this lovable?" She said teasingly.

I pulled away a bit and chuckled. I stared into those beautiful golden eyes that were staring right back.

"Only with you." I softly made circular patterns with my thumb against her cheek. Amira smirked and softly kissed me on the lips.

"I would love to stand her and kiss you all day, but I have something to ask you?"

"Okay." She pulled me towards the couch.

Our hands were still entwined as I spoke. "Do you think there could be a Witch working with the Vampires?"

She furrowed her brows. "What?" She pulled her hand away. "No Witch would benefit from that."

She was irritated because she moved away from me a bit and looked away. I sighed, "It's just a possibility... how can you explain the Vampires knowing I was going to be at the club and last night at the forest."

Amira's face scrunched at my words as she thought it through. "There are other covens outside of Avery Falls, but they are peaceful. The only Witches that have ever caused problems were from here, centuries ago."

I reached to grab her hand again and she let me hold it. "Could it be possible that they're forcing a Witch to help?"

"It would have to be something huge to get us to comply."

"Has any Witch been acting different lately or have disappeared for long periods of time?"

The last part caught Amira's attention as her eyes widened. She pulled away from my hold quickly and got off the couch.

I looked up at her, "Amira, what's wrong?"
