1: Stronghold

10 years later...

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I scrabbled for my phone under the pillow and pressed on the volume button to stop the stupid alarm from making that annoying sound. I pressed my face deeper into the pillow and let myself drift off back to sleep.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

"Alright, alright, I'm up!" I groaned as I turned my body to face the ceiling.

"Time to face the world," I mumbled to myself. I got off from my bed and walked out to the small hallway, making my way to the bathroom. I turned on the faucet and splashed some water on my face. I grabbed a towel to dry off and stared at myself in the mirror.

"I really need a haircut."

Looking at my dark brown curly hair, this was the longest I've had it since I was a kid. It was long enough to cover over my brown eyes. Finishing up in the bathroom, I walked back out to the hallway and was tackled by someone.

"Logan! Morning man." Devin said as he playfully put me in a headlock.

Devin Hill... my brother, well the closest thing to one anyways. He's the total opposite of me. Where I am quiet and brooding, Devin is talkative and optimistic. Devin and his parents found me the night of my tenth birthday. After shifting alone for the first time, I was disoriented and hungry that I just kept running for miles not knowing where to go. I had ran into a road when a car almost hit me. Lucky for me, it ended up being Devin's parents, Ben and Cindy. If it weren't for them, I don't know how I would've made it through the rest of my life.

Devin and his parents only knew a little about me. They knew I was in danger and was on the run, but I never told them who I really was. I now went by Logan Hill. The four of us were living in a town called Stronghold. It was a small gated community for Werewolves that wanted to live a bit more like the humans did. Many of the Weres at Stronghold have had unfortunate experiences living the pack life, so rather than go Rogue, they found a place here where they belonged. Ian Scratch being one of them. Ian Scratch was the Mayor of Stronghold and was actually the one who came up with the idea for this place. Stronghold was built on Lycan territory which collapsed a couple of hundreds of years ago.

I pushed Devin away, quickly grabbed his arm and flipped him on his back to the floor. "Gotta do better than that, Dev." He chuckled as I helped him back up.

"You ready for this match, bro?" Devin asked as we walked towards the kitchen.

"Oh, I'm ready. Been training non-stop." We walked into the kitchen where Ben and Cindy were already preparing for their day.

"Good morning sweethearts," Cindy said as she put our breakfast plates full of food on the table.

"Mornin' Mom and Dad." Devin and I said in unison.

We both kissed Cindy on the cheek before we sat down to eat and Ben just smiled at us before looking back to reading his paper.

"I'm excited." Devin squealed like a school girl. "Man, if you beat Coach today, you'll win us a twenty-four hour day pass out of this place."

That's the thing about living in Stronghold, it's a secret gated community kept from the humans. There was a human town about two hours away, so we were limited on our access outside these walls. That's why this was the perfect place to hide out for the past ten years.

"You be careful today, Logan. I want to see all your limbs intact when you get back." Devin chuckled at Cindy.

"Don't you worry about our boy, Honey, he's a tough one." Ben chimed in.

"Yeah, Logan is going to kick Coach's ass." Like I said before, Devin liked to talk.

Ben and Cindy lightly chuckled, but I punched Devin on the chest to shut him up.

"Ow!" He leaned forward and rubbed against his chest and whined, "What was that for?"

"You talk too much," I smirked at him while he stared at me with intensity in his green eyes that were letting me know he would get me back .

Cindy noticed Devin staring and she walked towards him and pushed away his blonde mop of a hair away from his face. "Play nice, you two." She warned us because from experience, Dev and I would get into serious competition when it came to one upping the other. "Now eat up or you're both going to be late."

Devin and I shifted into our wolf form once we were outside. We took off running to the training center to meet up with the rest of the group as everyone was looking forward to someone coming close to beating our Coach in a sparring match. We put our clothes on which we held in our mouths while running. The downside of being a Werewolf, the potential of tearing your favorite clothes without so much of a warning.

As we got closer to the center, I looked around and there were also some of the girls waiting to see the match.

"What up, man?" Chris said as we fist bumped. "Don't let use down, Logan." He chuckled.

"I'll try not to." I responded.

"You got this bro," Devin said to me as he fist bumped Chris.

"Is that so?" Devin froze as Ian Scratch asked from behind him.

"Uh.. oh, heeeyy Coach." Chris and I sniffled a laugh at how spooked Devin got. And yup, Mayor Scratch was the Coach. He trained most of the young Werewolves at Stronghold with a couple of other older skilled fighters.

Coach let out a soft chuckle, "I'm just pullin' yer tail, Mr. Hill."

He turned his attention to me and asked, "You ready there, Mr. Hill?"

I nodded and he walked to the middle of the mats that were placed outside. Chris slapped Devin on the back playfully while he chuckled as he led him to the small bleachers. "Come on, Dev. Put your money where your mouth is. Ten bucks, Logan loses."

"You're on." I heard Devin excitedly say back.

I followed Coach to the middle of the mats. One of the other trainers rang the bell to start the match. We started to slowly circle each other.

"GO LOGAN!" Devin and a couple of the guys started to root for me.

"You don't want to let them down, do yer." Coach taunted.

"They'll be alright," I said as I quickly lifted my right leg to kick him in the face. Of course, he dodged it.

"Great form." Coach said as he quickly threw a couple of jabs at me which I quickly backed away from.

"You ain't seen nothin' yet," I confidently said to Coach. I threw a couple of jabs of my own and Coach dodged them like a pro while still being able to punch me in the jaw.

We went head to head and tried to tackle the other down. We did this for a couple of minutes. Coach swooped his leg under me to try to trip me, but I quickly jumped to dodge it.

The guys started shouting, telling me to kick Coach's ass. Coach threw his fists at me which I dodged, but he stepped back quickly and kicked me on the ribs. I heard a crack so I took a step back to recover.

"Is that all you got, boy?" Coach taunted for the second time in this match.

My body healed my broken ribs slowly, but I was still able to continue. I had to be careful or Coach was going to take advantage of my broken ribs. I got into position and Coach quickly started throwing jabs and that's when I had my opening. I kicked him in the back of his knee which made him stumble and I threw two fast and powerful jabs at his face. Coach was on his back on the floor and everyone watching went crazy and started screaming from excitement. I dropped to the floor quickly and put him in a chokehold. Coach tapped and I released my hold. I got up from the ground and offered my hand to help him up.

Coach grabbed my hand and shook his head. "Wow, when did you get so powerful."

"That was aaaaaaa-mazing!" Devin yelled as he ran towards us with everyone else.

"It sure was." Coach said as he chuckled.

Devin and Chris jumped on me from their excitement. "Broooo, that was sick," Chris yelled.

"Ma dude, how the hell did you do it!" Drew said in disbelief.

"What can I say." I said while shrugging Devin and Chris off me, but then suddenly someone wrapped their body on me and planted their lips hard on mine. It was Stella.

"You are incredible," Stella said once she removed her lips from mine.

"Thanks." I grabbed and squeezed her ass with one hand and she squealed.

Stella was my on again, off again girl. I wasn't serious about her because I knew she didn't really like me for me, she just liked me because of being the strongest of the guys our age around here. Stella liked power and she wasn't shy about letting everyone know. I pulled Stella off me once Coach cleared his throat.

"Come to my office to let me know when you plan to use your pass. Remember, you can only take one other with you." I gave him a nod and he walked away.

Stella squealed again thinking she would be the one to go with me. Sorry to break it to her, but she wasn't. She squeezed my arm in excitement.

"So where are you taking me once we go out there?"

I peeled her hands off me and said, "You're not coming with." She shoved me in annoyance and stormed away.

Devin laughed as Stella left. "Bro, I don't know how you stand her." I couldn't lie, but Stella was a good fuck. But I wasn't about to say that so I just shrugged.

As we started making our way back home, Devin spoke to me about some club he googled that was a 'must go to'.

"Come on, I think it will be lit. We grab a couple of drinks and a couple of fine hunnies." Devin was really pressing this and I wondered what he really had up his sleeves.

"Fine, we'll go tomorrow night." I gave in to his plea. "I'll just be glad to get out of this town for a bit."
