Chapter 5 Behave Yourself Mr. Sabbatini

Liam was looking around the restaurant when he saw a beautiful woman talking to Roxy and Maximo. “Is that? No, it can’t be,” he thought. The more he looked at the woman’s back, the more he was convinced it was Caroline. Her beautiful long hair, just like he remembers it. Her beautiful figure was perfectly outlined by the red maxi dress she wore.

After Roxy and Maximo walked away, he walked closer to the woman. He gripped her arm with the intention of getting a good look at the woman’s face. As soon as he saw the woman’s face, he was taken aback by the beautiful, familiar face. Her grace and elegance accompanied by her strong demeanor. Her soft lips and alluring lips as red as blood.

Caroline looked into the man’s beautiful green eyes. She tried to pull her arm away, but the man just gripped harder. “Caroline.”

“Liam.” Caroline angrily looked at the man and was able to shake his hand off as she called his name. She walked away in hopes of escaping from him. “Why is he here?” She wondered.

As Caroline walked away, Liam walked behind her. He grabbed her arm once again and dragged her to the hallway, leading to the bathrooms. “What are you doing? Let go of me.” Liam tugged her arm, pulling her into a tight hug. Caroline struggled to get free. “Let me go, Liam. I don’t want to talk to you. I have nothing to say to you.”

“But I have many things to say to you.”

“Leave me alone. Let me go.” Caroline continued to struggle to get free, but Liam just hugged her tighter. Caroline continued to struggle until he let go of her. Caroline looked into his deep eyes and pushed him away. Caroline started walking away when Liam covered her mouth and dragged her into the bathroom. Again, Caroline struggled to get free. Liam pinned her against the and stared into her eyes without saying a word. Caroline remained calm for a second. Then his phone started to ring.

“Behave yourself, Mr. Sabbatini,” she said. Liam reluctantly let go of her to answer the call. Caroline took the perfect opportunity to get free from his grip. Caroline walked out of the men’s bathroom and looked around and heard some voices at the end of the deserted hallway. She was going to step back into the restaurant, when she heard a woman say, “Maximo, stop. Your fiancée is out there looking for you.” Caroline could not help but get near them.

Caroline walked closer to the end of the hallway and hid behind the wall to avoid getting seen. She grabbed her cellphone from her designer clutch purse and opened the camera application. She took some photos and a video of Maximo and a woman kissing. Caroline was instantly filled with rage. She wanted to go tell Roxy about what she had witnessed, but now it was not the right time.

Caroline walked away while looking at the photos she just took. Just then, a familiar voice called her name. She looked up from the phone screen and met eyes with her uncle. She closed her phone and hugged her uncle. “Vincent, it’s so good to see you. How have you been?”

“Great, dear. I’m glad to see you again. How is your mother? How is Mark?” Caroline responded, “they are fine. They couldn’t come with me. I’m here for business.”

“Oh, okay. It would have been great if they could have been here for Roxy’s wedding.”

“Yes. About that, what do you think of Maximo?”

“Well, I didn’t like him at first, but I think he could make Roxy happy. Why do you ask?”

“I just want to ensure that he is the right man for her.” After a pause, Carline added, “what if he were to cheat on her?”

“Why are you asking this, Caroline?” Caroline stayed silent and looked down. “I think you know the answer to that.” Caroline looked back at Vincent then looked at everyone gathering around the table. “Let’s go seat,” she said.

Caroline took a seat on the large table. Right in front of her sat the woman she saw in the pictures she just took. Roxy sat next to Caroline and introduced them. “Caroline, this is Leah Gomez, she is one of my bridesmaids.” Caroline smiled and said, “pleasure to meet you.”

“The pleasure is all mine,” the woman responded. Caroline faked a smile. “How can this woman be so shameless?” Caroline wondered. As she was lost in thought, wondering what to do with the woman and the man lying to her cousin, a man she did not want near her, sat next to her. Caroline angrily looked at the man and sneered. She decided it was best if she ignored him.

Then, Maximo stood up from his chair. He clicked his champagne glass with a fork, getting the attention of everyone present. “Hello, everyone. I am glad all of you could make it. Tomorrow will be a very special day for me. Tomorrow, I will be married to this beautiful woman.” Maximo looked at Roxy and added, “I am so grateful to have you in my life. I love you.” Roxy smiled while looking at him. “I love you, too,” she mouthed. Maximo spoke once again, “shall we eat now?” Maximo sat back down, and the waiters began serving the food.

As they were eating the scrumptious and extravagant meal, Caroline tried as hard as she could to ignore the man next to her. Though it would be almost impossible since he decided to place his hand on her bare thigh. She angrily stared at him and he seemed indifferent to her nasty stare. Caroline slapped his hand away. Everyone looked up at the sound of the harsh slap. They looked around then looked back at their plate as they continued their conversations.

Liam’s hand ached with the slap Caroline just gave it. Her fingers were marked on the back of his hands, making his veins pop even more. Liam placed his hand on the table, waiting for Caroline to look at it. He wanted to see her reaction. “Will she be apologetic, or will she just ignore it?” He wondered. Caroline glanced at his hand but instead of looking at the red mark she left, she focused on the ring on his finger. She remembered it was the same wedding ring he wore four years ago.

Caroline decided to ignore him again. She looked at the woman in front of her. “How did you meet Roxy?”

“I met her three years ago. We were at a party and Maximo introduced us.”

“Oh? So, you were Maximo’s friend first?” Leah responded, “yes, though we are still friends.” Leah giggled at the end of the sentence. “Interesting,” Caroline responded. “Are you Roxy’s sister? I have never seen you before. You two look so alike.” Caroline chuckled. “I’m her cousin and I would do anything to ensure nothing happens to her,” Caroline spoke in a threatening tone.

Leah let out a nervous laugh. Caroline continued to enjoy her meal, still thinking of what to do about Maximo and Leah. She looked back at the woman in front of her and asked, “Leah, what do you think of the women that date men who are already in a relationship?” Liam raised his eyebrow when he heard Caroline’s question. Leah was taken aback by Caroline’s straightforwardness. “I- I don’t have a say in the matter.”

“Come on, Leah. I’m sure you do. Just say whatever is in your mind. We’re all friends here, aren’t we?” Roxy could not help to overhear Caroline’s conversation with Leah. She looked at Leah then back at Caroline. Liam kept looking at Caroline through the corner of his eye and wondered, “what is she planning now?”

“Well, I think that women should not do that. It is a terrible thing to be a homewrecker, and the man is the one most at fault, after all, he is the one in a relationship.” Caroline gave Liam a quick glance then commented, “I agree. What do you think, Roxy?”

“I could not agree more. I don’t think anyone should lie to a person like that.” Roxy turned to look at Maximo and added, “right, babe?” Maximo was dumbfounded he did not know what they were talking about, so he just agreed. “Yes, beautiful.” Caroline chuckled.

When they finished having dinner, they continued to converse until it was late in the evening. Caroline said her goodbyes to her family and left the restaurant. She was waiting for her chauffeur when Liam got near her. He gripped her arm again. “Let go of me!” Caroline exclaimed. “Where have you been all this time?” Caroline chuckled.

“Wow, your little spies didn’t do their job, right? You should get your money back.” Caroline looked into his eyes and added, “why do you look so surprised? You thought I wouldn’t notice you had people following me? Are you disappointed that I am one step ahead? Do you think I didn’t notice how you would always travel to the places I was in? Liam, why do you insist on pestering me? You have made it clear that you don’t want anything to do with me, so why do you continue to bother me? Are you that bored, Mr. Sabbatini? Well, I’m not your doll, so stop toying with me.”

Liam smirked. “Princess, of course, I am bored. You are my only source of entertainment.” Caroline chuckled. “You need to find a better hobby. Why not try writing?” Caroline looked at the familiar car pulling up and added, “now that you have had your fun, you can return to your life, being the despicable man that you are.” Caroline pulled her arm from his grip. She got in the car and directed to chauffeur to drive away.

Once Liam was left alone, looking at the back of the luxurious car, his chauffeur arrived. He got on the latest black Rolls Royce model and told his chauffeur to follow the car Caroline was in. After he found out she was staying in her penthouse, he told his chauffeur to drive somewhere else.

When Liam arrived at the building, he got off the luxurious car and went inside the building. He got on the elevator and went to the top floor of the building. He stepped inside the restaurant and the owner called out, “we are closed.”

“Even for a friend?” Lucas turned to look at Liam. Liam walked further into the restaurant and took a seat. “Shouldn’t you give me a proper greeting?” Liam leaned back on the chair and answered, “shouldn’t you give me a proper welcome?” Lucas let out a sigh and walked away.

When Lucas returned, he sat on the chair in front of Liam, whilst placing a bottle of whiskey and two glasses on the table. He served both glasses and handed one to Liam. “What’s with the face? You look gloomier than usual.” Liam remained silent.

Just then, another man stepped inside the restaurant. “I see you have you two have started without me.”

“Samuel, what brings you here?”

“I wanted to have some drinks with you. What’s with Liam? He looks gloomier than usual.” Liam glanced at the man walking towards the table. He sat next to Lucas and spoke, “where is my glass?” He sat down and Lucas stood up to get another glass. He sat back down and severed some whiskey on the glass. “Look at us,” Lucas spoke, “hanging out together just like in high school.”

“Liam, tell us, what’s wrong?” Liam paused for a second then spoke, “she’s back.” Samuel and Lucas looked at each other. “Caroline is back?” Liam looked up from his empty glass. “She is just like she was four years ago. It was like time stood still. She has her long beautiful hair. She seems more mature and a bit more hot-tempered than before.” Liam looked back at his friends in front of him and added, “but, she wants nothing to do with me.”

“I wouldn’t blame her.” Samuel laughed at Lucas’s comment. Liam coldly looked at them. “Don’t get mad, Liam. We’re just being honest. You told her all that shit. You didn’t even mean it.” Lucas leaned back on the chair and said, “well, now that you’ve had your chance and blew it. I think you should step aside and give other’s a chance.” Liam angrily exclaimed, “she is still my wife!” Samuel commented, “Liam, as a lawyer, I don’t think you should have destroyed those divorce papers.”
