Chapter 70 I Like You

The next day, they were all gathered inside the brightly illuminated breakfast room. There was an awkward silence inside the room. The children began to fill the silence by having their conversation.

Elizabeth looked at everyone gathered around the room and asked, “why are you all so silent?” Caroline refused to look up from her plate. She membered yesterday when she got off the elevator to go to her bedroom, she heard the lewdest sounds coming from Taekyung’s bedroom from one side of the hallway, and on the other end of the corridor, she heard the same lewd sounds coming from the guest bedroom. She instantly ran to her bedroom on the other side of the mansion, where no sounds could be heard.

“What happened yesterday?” Elizabeth asked, “why are you all so quiet?” Caroline let out a sigh. She decided to make this awkward moment even more awkward. She looked at her mother on the other side of the table and responded, “what didn’t happen yesterday?” She looked at both Charles and Persephone, before looking at Taekyung and Mark.

“What happened?” Elizabeth repeated. “Nothing,” they responded at the same time, making Caroline chuckle. She then looked back at the plate in front of her and continued to enjoy her meal.

This morning, Caroline went to the gym by herself. She did not dare call Taekyung to go with her. She preferred to just go train by herself. She felt so relieved after releasing all her stress work brought upon her.

After breakfast, Caroline went with the children to the playroom. She was sitting at the table, watching color in their coloring book when Persephone walked inside the playroom and walked closer to Caroline. Caroline stood up from the chair and walked to the armchairs by the windows. As Caroline walked up the step, Persephone followed behind her.

Caroline sat on the chair and looked at the children before looking at Persephone. “What is your relationship with Chuck?”

“What?” Persephone was taken aback by Caroline’s question. Then she proceeded to answer, “we’re just two adults that have great sex. Nothing more. Nothing less.” Caroline looked at her and let out a sigh. “Thank you for sharing, but I didn’t need to know that about my cousin.”

“Sorry.” Caroline shook her head. “It’s fine. I don’t know if this will apply to you, but don’t catch feelings. He is notorious for playing with women. I’d rather you play him than him playing you.” Persephone chuckled. “Don’t worry, Care, I will not let that happen because I am notorious for playing men.”

Caroline looked at Persephone and smiled. She looked at her clothes and Persephone spoke, “I borrowed some clothes from your closet. Hope you don’t mind.” Caroline answered, “it’s fine. They look better on you than they do on me.”

Out by the pool, Taekyung was talking on the phone when Mark stepped closer to him. He stood behind him and waited for him to end his phone call. Right when Taekyung ended his phone call and turned around, he found and found Mark about to leave as if he were regretting finding the initiative of talking to him.

Taekyung walked in front of Mark and picked him up. He carried him over his shoulder and walked towards the mansion. “Hey! What are you doing? Put me down!” Mark exclaimed. “No.” Taekyung continued to walk towards the door.

As Taekyung walked towards the stairs, he encountered Elizabeth walking in the other direction. He just smiled and waved as he passed by her. Elizabeth stopped and turned around. She met eyes with Mark. He turned his head to the side to avoid looking at her.

Taekyung went all the way to his bedroom while carrying Mark over his shoulder. He opened the door of his bedroom and then closed it. He walked closer to the bed and laid Mark on the bed. “What are you doing?”

“We need to talk.”

“About what?” Taekyung crossed his arms. “What do you think? Why are you so confusing? You are confusing me. You are confusing yourself. First, you tell me you don’t like me. Then, you throw yourself into my arms. After, you ignore me.”

Mark stood up from the bed and countered, “I’m the confusing one? You were the one that told me you didn’t like me. I have had a crush on you for years. Since I first met you. I haven’t been able to like anybody else! And then you tell me you don’t like and now you just want to sleep with me.”

Taekyung opened his mouth, but no words came out. He let out a sigh. Then he said, “I’m sorry. I never wanted it to come to this. I wanted to distance myself from you. I didn’t want you to be involved with someone like me, but I couldn’t stay away from you. I was so selfish to not care about how you felt and despite telling you those things, I still tried to get involved with you.”

Mark stepped closer to him and said, “that was not for you to decide. I can make my own decisions. I’m the one that knows what’s best for me.” He placed his head against Taekyung’s chest and added, “I really like you, Taekyung. I have liked you since I first met you. I was a coward. I didn’t tell you how I felt because you told me you didn’t like me.”

Taekyung wrapped his arms around him and said, “I’m sorry for not telling you how I truly felt. I was confused about my feelings and I didn’t want to hurt you by leading you on, so I thought it was best to drive you away from me, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t distance myself from you... because I like you.”

Mark looked up at him and smiled. Taekyung smiled back. “Does this mean we’re dating?” Taekyung shook his head. “I think we should go on a date first. Tonight, how does that sound?” Mark nodded. “It’s a date.” Taekyung leaned down and kissed his lips. Then, he separated from the kiss and said, “I couldn’t hold back any longer and if we continue to stay like this, I don’t think I will be able to control myself.”

Taekyung separated from Mark and said as he tried to distract himself, “I wanted to talk to you this morning, but when I woke up, you had left... How are you feeling? Are you alright?” Mark blushed and looked to the side. “I’m fine,” he said, “it just hurts a little.”

Taekyung leaned in and pressed a peck on his forehead. “I will see you tonight.” Taekyung looked at the Rolex on his wrist and made his way out of the bedroom. He went down the stairs and walked out of the mansion. He got on his car, which was parked in front of the mansion, and drove to the meeting he had pending.

Caroline was in the playroom with the children and Persephone when the butler went inside the room. “Ms. King, there is someone here to see you.” Caroline looked at her children. She looked at Persephone and then she stood up from the armchair and then walked towards the door.

The butler led Caroline to the living room, where she found Sebastian sitting on the sofa. Caroline smiled and stepped closer to him. He stood up from the sofa to greet her. “Teddy, what brings you here?”

“What? I can’t come see my best friend?” Caroline shook her head. “That’s not it.”

“I tried calling you, but your phone seems to be off.”

“I don’t have a phone right now. I will have my assistant get me one when I go to work tomorrow,” Caroline spoke, “anyway, what brings you here?”

“I came to take you out along with the twins.”

“What about me?” Asked the woman stepping inside the living room. Sebastian chuckled and said, “I will take you out tomorrow. Today, I wanted to go out with Caroline and the twins.”

“What do you have planned?” Caroline asked. “We’ll be going to a park.” Caroline nodded in agreement. “Alright. I will get the twins ready.” Caroline walked to the twins’ playroom and then took them up to their bedroom to look for some clothes more appropriate for a park.

In the living room, Persephone looked at Sebastian, arms crossed. “Why are you only inviting Caroline?” Sebastian snickered. “I promise we will go out tomorrow. How does the beach sound?” Persephone nodded as she said, “fine.”

After Caroline changed her outfit and the twins’ outfit, she walked back down to the living room. “We’re ready.” Sebastian said goodbye to Persephone after Caroline and the twins said their goodbyes. They walked out of the mansion and walked to the black Maserati SUV parked in front of the mansion. Caroline sat the children on their seats and put on their seat belt. She then sat on the passenger’s seat and Sebastian drove away.

After driving a few blocks from the mansion, Sebastian parked the car on the side of the road. Caroline looked at him and asked, “why are we stopping?” Sebastian looked at her and smiled. He looked through the rear-view mirror and then opened the door. He got off the car and closed the door.

Caroline watched him step closer to the man walking towards him. They greeted each other and then they continued walking. Sebastian walked to the car parked behind the Maserati. He drove beside them and made a quick stop to wave at Caroline, knowing she would be looking at him through the dark tinted windows before driving away.

After Sebastian’s car disappeared into the distance, Caroline turned to look at the man sitting next to her. “Hi, princess.” Caroline was dumbfounded by what had just happened. Liam looked at the children sitting on the back seat and waved at them. He wore a smile on his face, making Mia smile back get excited to see him again.

Liam looked at Caroline while smiling. She had her arms crossed and glaring at him. Though Sebastian forgot to tell Caroline, he and Liam became friends. As weird as it may sound, Sebastian actually found his company not as unpleasant as he thought it would be. At first, Liam would only go to Sebastian to ask about Caroline. If he knew anything about her. If he knew where she was. If he knew when she was returning and most importantly, he would ask about her past. After some time, Liam stopped asking and they would just hang out as friends.

By becoming friends, Sebastian was able to get to know Liam better. He knew why Liam did what he did. He was not quite certain if he should forgive him after how much he hurt Caroline, but after knowing his true motives, he decided to trust Liam would not hurt Caroline again. Despite knowing how much he hurt Caroline and despite being in love with Caroline, he felt Liam was best for her. He knows she still loves him, and he knows that he could help them be together again.

Liam glanced at Caroline one last time before driving away. “What are you doing? What are you planning?” Caroline asked. “Nothing, princess. I just want to take you out on a date.”

“First of all, you are kidnaping me, again. Second of all, you shouldn’t involve my children. Third of all, how did you get Sebastian to follow your plan?”

“I am not kidnapping you. I only want to spend time with you and the twins. I didn’t get Sebastian to do this, he volunteered. He even came up with the plan.”

“That traitor,” Caroline said to herself. Then she said, “you don’t need to take me out. Instead, you should go out with your fiancée and your son.” Liam let out a sigh. He came to a stop at a red light. He completely ignored Caroline and turned to look at the twins. “How you two? Are you excited to go to the park?” Mia exclaimed, “yes!”

Then, he looked at Ian. Ian did not respond. He was trying to figure out what was going on. He looked at his mother who seemed mad but at the same time, she wore a tender smile when Liam was not looking. He was trying to figure out who the man sitting next to his mother is and what he wants.
