"What, my dear Lady Disdain! Are you yet
living?" Abel asked the beautiful brunette standing ahead of him. Her brown eyes seemed to stare into his soul.

"Is it possible disdain should die while she hath such meet food to feed it as Signior? Courtesy itself must convert to disdain if you come in her presence." Skylar replied.

"Than is courtesy a turncoat. But it is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted; and I would I could find in my heart that I had not a hard heart, for truly I love none."

Skylar's tone became sarcastic. "A dear happiness to women. They would else have been troubled with a pernicious suitor. I thank God and my cold blood I am of your humor for that. I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me."

Abel sighed. "God keep your Ladyship still in that mind, so some gentleman or other shall 'scape a predestinate scratched face."

Skylar continued with her sarcasm, already fed up with this conversation. "Scratching could not make it worse an 'twere such a face as yours were."

"Well, you are a rare parrot-teacher," Abel retorted.

"A bird of my tongue is better than a beast of
yours." Skylar flipped her long dark hair and crossed her tan arms against her chest.

"I would my horse had the speed of your
tongue and so good a continuer, but keep your
way, i' God's name, I have done."

"You always end with a jade's trick. I know
you of old." Skylar said right before she stormed off to the back of the stage. Her lines were done for now, so she waited in the back until her next scene came.

This was the first year of the re-opening of theaters. Sexually explicit language was encouraged by the human king, King Charles II. The socially diverse audience included both aristocrats, their servants and hangers-on, and a substantial middle-class segment. These playgoers were attracted to the comedies by up-to-the-minute topical writing, by crowded and bustling plots.

Hours passed and the play was finally finished. Skylar was relieved as she had been giving a performance for five days straight. She was finally going to have a couple of days off, she was getting pretty tired of performing Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. But she had to keep appearances to blend in with the humans.

At twenty-four years of age, she swore to everything that she was never going to go back to her coven. She couldn't stand the way they wanted to control her every thought and decision. Skylar was always meant for greatness, she knew that and so she would do anything to achieve power. If only those Spirits never existed.

After taking her bow, she headed straight into the changing area to remove her costume. She was met with the other actresses.

"Great performance, Sky!" Margot, the lead actress complimented.

"Thank you." Skylar smiled, but it came out a bit more of a grimace. She hated when people called her Sky.

"Beatrice is such a great character, it suits you very well. You know... second best!" Margot flashed her a smirk after the insult and flipped her hair to turn towards the mirror to apply her lipstick.

Skylar loathed this human and although she shouldn't use her magic in front of humans, she still did. Skylar mumbled a few words and Margot's hand began to move uncontrollably, smearing the lipstick all over her own face. Margot began yelping while the two other actresses tried to help her stop. Skylar just walked away with a smirk on her face and went to find somewhere else to change. She found a small private place and began to remove her costume. Once her costume was off, she began to slowly put on every piece of her delicate dress.

Skylar's dress was an off-the-shoulder neckline and short, full, cartridge-pleated sleeves. The bodice fastening took the form of a lacing through the eyelets at the back. It had a complex understructure of boned channels and layers of linen, with a channel for a separate busk at the front. A petticoat of matching satin, with a padded roll underneath, was worn with the bodice. The bodice is decorated with a two-coloured silk cord in mushroom and cream, and a silk bobbin lace with silk-wrapped parchment, in green, pink, yellow, black, cream and tan.

"Need help?" A loud chipper voice magically appeared out of nowhere, startling Skylar. It was none other than Skylar's blonde haired, blue eyed Familiar.

"Dammit, Bay!" Bay just giggled at Skylar's reaction. "What the hell are you doing here? You're free from being my Familiar!" Skylar was annoyed by Bay's sudden appearance.

Bay pouted and spoke in a soft voice. "I'll always be your Familiar... no matter what."

Skylar sighed and changed the conversation. It wasn't her intention to hurt Bay's feelings, she knew she had been lucky having Bay as her Familiar. Bay was the only Spirit that didn't bear any malice.

"I apologize, Bay." Skylar flashed her a small smile. "I don't need any help with my lacing, but you can tie it for me."

Bay smiled widely in return. She eagerly began to tie Skylar's bodice like a child that had just gotten a brand new toy.

"I've missed you, Skylar." Bay's voice was low and filled with sadness. "Willow has been going bananas since you've left."

Skylar let out a deep sigh and rolled her eyes, "Good. Maybe now she'll learn that I'm more than just a mere Witch."

"I trust that you know what you're doing, Skylar... because if she finds out what your planning, she will come at full force to you."

Bay finished fastening the bodice and Skylar turned to face her and smiled mischievously, "And that's why I have you, my dear Bayley." Skylar booped Bay on the nose with her index finger.

Bay suddenly leaned in to hug her. "As your Familiar, I'm obligated to go along with your crazy plan... but I worry you will put yourself into a situation one day that involves a great sacrifice." She slightly pulled away to look at Skylar in the eyes. "Promise me you won't do anything foolish tonight."

What Bay hadn't told Skylar was that earlier in the day, she had foreseen Skylar's future. That future all depended on the choices Skylar made moving forward.

Skylar pulled her back into the hug and gave her a tighter squeeze. "I promise."

But, she was lying.
