Kenzo's Evolution

*In a forest a small boy with shaggy, yellow, and green hair whimpers scaredly in a pathway.*

Boy
Mom? D-Dad?

*A rustling in the bushes was heard. The boy then curls up into a ball and cries softly. Suddenly a warm hand touched his shoulder. He turned and saw a boar's head staring at him. He screams in fear when he gets a good look at the boar. It's a boar with a man's body. The boar man points to him.*

Boar Man
You. What's your name?

Boy
K-Kenzo Nurakama.

Boar Man
I am Inosuke Hashibira. You will call me Lord Inosuke, and your new name is Kenzo Nurakama-Hashibira. Now let's go meet your new brothers and sisters.

Kenzo
What about my parents?

*Inosuke turned back to Kenzo.*

Inosuke
They're gone, no?

Kenzo
Yes, but-

Inosuke
Then why aren't you moving?

*Kenzo stood in place and thought.*

Kenzo
I don't want to be left outside by myself. But what if my parent find me?

Inosuke
Well?

Kenzo
If I go with you... will you help me find my parents?

Inosuke
I can't guarantee we'll find them. So far, I am taking care of twenty-three of you brats and either they don't want to go back home, or they've given up on finding their families.

Kenzo
Twenty-three?!?! How is he taking care of all those children?

*Inosuke and Kenzo come to a part of the forest. There are a few treehouses, but no children.*

Kenzo
This man is a lunatic.

*Note: This goes great with the beginning chorus of Dandelions by Ruth B.*

Inosuke
Hey, Gremlins!* Come and meet your brother!
*Gremlins was not made until June 8th, 1984

*One by one, the children appear.*

Inosuke
This is Kenzo. You will treat him with the respect you all deserve.

*The children waved at Kenzo. One wearing a hood that looked like a frog grabbed his arm and took him away from the crowd.*

Frog Child
Sorry about them. I'm Kairu Ito-Hashibira. How did you end up here?

Kenzo
Uhm...

*A car stops in the path that Kenzo was first seen on. He was then thrown out of the car, landed face-first, bleeding from the head, and did not initially wake up. It was later that night, he woke up.*

Kenzo
Where am I?

*Kenzo sat on that road for a while. Eating whatever squirrels or (known) berries he could find.*

Kairu
Sounds like they didn't want you.

Kenzo
Yes, they did!

Kairu
Parents who love you won't throw you on the side of the road.

*Kenzo opens his mouth to say something. But doesn't say anything.*

*Kairu looms over Kenzo.*

Kairu
Kenzo, are you awake?

Kenzo
I was never asleep.

Kairu
Then why were you lying down?

Kenzo
Because I wanted to?

Kairu
If you do that the vultures might get to you.

Kenzo
There are no vultures.

Kairu
Anyways, you need to stay active or something might get you.

Kenzo
Fine.

*Kenzo stood up.*

Kenzo
Now what?

Kairu
Wait for Inosuke to come and we'll either hunt, eat, or get yelled at. We don't get siblings as fast as you'd think.

Kenzo
What do you guys do all day?

Kairu
What did you use to?

Kenzo
Getting yelled at for doing nothing and getting called "the worst mistake ever. (?)"

Kairu
And you wanted to go back home?

Kenzo
Do you not want to go back home?

Kairu
No. I ran away. There are only so much of annoying parents you can take before you go ballistic.

Kenzo
But what if they miss you?

Kairu
Then they can COME AND GET ME!

*Kenzo and Kairu (well, Kairu hopped like the frog she is.) walked down a hill. They found a nice place and sat there.*

Kenzo
So you're initially a male?

*Kairu nods.*

Kairu
When I told Lord Inosuke this, he said that he couldn't blame me. We were both born looking like the opposite gender.

*Kairu catches a leaf in her palms.*

Kairu
Why do you still love them?

Kenzo
Who?

Kairu
Your parents. They're not nice to you, they threw you on the road in the middle of nowhere. Yet, you still believe in them.

Kenzo
I don't know... It's hard to let go of something, no?

Kairu
Not for me. If my only A+ blew into the wind. Well, if it doesn't land in water or mud, someone might see it.

Kenzo
Does anything matter to you?

Kairu
Not really.

*Now, ten-year-old Kenzo stands with his katana in front of a very large grizzly bear on its hind legs. (Older) Kairu lies on the ground, unconscious.*

Kenzo
Wind Breathing, Fifth Form; Cold Mountain Wind!

*The bear falls, dead. Kenzo grabs its head, and Kairu then runs back home.*

Kenzo
It's going to be okay, I defeated the bear, Kairu's going to be okay. It's-

*Kenzo then takes the wrong step in the snow and falls down a cliff. (Reminders of a certain scene, anyone?) Kenzo then shifts Kairu to be huddled in front of him so that Kenzo would take most of the fall damage. As he fell, branches from the pine trees below hit him on the back, cutting deeply into his skin. He then landed back first, hugging Kairu. Kenzo then closed his eyes as the world goes dark.*

Kairu
Kenzo? KENZO!

Kairu
Will, you stop yelling? He's about to wake up!

*Kenzo shot up at the sound of Kairu's voice.*

Kenzo
You're okay?

Kairu
Not really. I had to carry you up the mountain which eternally hurt my back badly.

Kenzo
Sorry...

Kairu
It's fine, another hour out in that snow, and you'd be ice. Plus, I get to use a cane!

One of Inosuke's Children That No One Will Remember
I thought that saving you was a lost cause. It was really hard to tell if you were alive or not due to being dragged in the snow.

*Kairu covered One of Inosuke's Children That No One Will Remember's mouth.*

Kairu
We all hoped that you would survive. And look what you got!

*Kairu showed Kenzo the head that he had gotten from the bear, it had been turned into a helmet, like Inosuke's boar head.*

*Present day (15-year-old) Kenzo looks at his hair which is now purple with white streaks in it.*

Kenzo
This is so confusing.

Himari
The hair or the story?

Habiki
Both.

Ashai
I liked it.

Kenzo
Fortunately, Kairu's still alive. I don't know where she is, though.

Himari
Maybe, one day, you'll find her.

Kenzo
Yeah...

(oMinOUs pAuSe)

Maybe.

vmathias: Great story. Very intriguing, sitting on the edge of my seat. 😊

sjdoss2017: Great story line. I was drawn to read more and more. However, the use of incorrect words from time was distracting. I found myself interjecting the correct word to make the dialog work. I do not like that there is not a link or title listed in order to allow the reader to continue to the next boo...

Serena: It is a wonderful book. I know Breaker didn't want to talk but I am so happy he did. I still can't believe Rubble he shouldn't have done that to Breaker. He knew how much Aurora ment to him. I loved that it only took 1 upper cut to win it. LOL

maggie Brown: Loving this story! These two are just the cutest!

Lizelle Nel: Absolutely love the story. The mother is quite hilarious with the innuendos. Could feel every emotion the characters went through. You wanted to cry with them. Laugh with them. Highly recommended to read. Keep it up.
