Notes: This is the prologue to a story I've been working on. If I get enough interest I'll post the next chapter in a day or two. Let me know what you think.

Prologue:

Long ago there lived an elven king who ruled over the high elves of Britain, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. He was a good king and his people adored him, for he cared greatly for them and would give his very life in service to them.

The elven king had a son whom he was very proud of. He taught his son all he would need to know to be as kind and benevolent a ruler as his father. But the son did not wish to rule. He preferred the forests, to learn magic and play jokes on the guards and the servants. The king, worried that his people would suffer should he perish, tried to make the son take his responsibilities seriously. But the son was a free spirit, unwilling to be tied to the crown and duty. And so, one night, he fled.

The king was devastated. His hunters searched long and hard for his son, but the heir had vanished, well-versed in magic as he was.

Ten years later, the world was at war. The king tried to remain neutral to protect his people from the fighting, but all of his efforts seemed to be in vain. He was approached by the leader of one of the sides, who named himself a lord, though there was nothing lordly about him. He offered the king power and control, but the king saw through his lies. He refused the lord and was killed. In vengeance against the king, the lord had his followers attack the king's people. The high elves fell from the prosperity and peace they experienced under their beloved king.

They were driven from all but their most remote settlements, forced to wander as their numbers dwindled. The high elves survive yet, but only as a shadow of what they once were. The High Council, who once advised the king, now safeguards the empty throne. The high elves watch and wait for the day the lost son will return to them and lead them into a new age of prosperity.

Dinzy: I actually liked it although I did not find it fit to be a horror story at all. It was a lot more mystery and fantasy than horror but it was very interesting and a good read.

Hudson: Your story was fantastic Erin! The Rising Sun was one of the first stories I read on Inkitt, and I have to say I don't regret the three to four days I spent pouring through the story.Probably the biggest strength I see in your writing is your characterisation of Eliana, Oriens, and the rest of th...

JWalker: I loved this story from start to finish! It flows at a really nice pace and the story world feels so real. The fight sequences are a treat especially when Isanfyre is training to become a warrior. I found the names really cool and thankfully easy to pronounce. Personally I have always struggled w...

ernbelle: When I first started this story I was a little unsettled by all of the information that appears in the prologue, and wasn't sure if I would continue. However, I am very glad I did. The plot was very well thought out and really interesting. There were not any page breaks or markers to acknowledge ...

europeanlove: I gotta hand it to you. I love reading. I read books everyday. When the book is good I can read it in probably 13 hours. Your story was amazing. Great prose, very imaginative. Incredible dialogue. I am deeply impressed. Keep it up.

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?

Catherine Kopf: This novel is a very interesting piece of young adult fiction, with a lot going behind it. At first glance, one appears to get a "Twilight" feel from hearing it's about werewolves and vampires, but this story is unique and isn't like that. One thing that I really enjoyed was the fact that it to...

missinlucky004: One of the best reads I've had in a long time. It was attention grabbing from the front cover until it ended. I sure hope this is the first in a series, either way though, it was a delightful read! I will definitely recommend to friends, and I'll be checking out other books by this author.

sujitha nair: What's so distinct about this story was that it could easily be real. Praveena can be your classmate, neighbor or that girl you saw at the coffee shop today. The important decisions she makes and the dilemmas she faces, remind us of our own twisted lives.

Dru83: This is perhaps my favorite part of the Olafson story just because it is here that were are introduced to his "gang". The characters are so diverse and complicated that each of them could just about spawn their own story. Eric's buddies are just so captivating and the plot just rolls along. Again...

catd69: Karim is a very talented writer. When I started reading his journey it took me into the book and I was in the story till the end. I've never felt this way with any other writers stories. If you want to read a gripping adventure, this will be the one book I would suggest you pick.

Hawkebat: Playing both Kotor I & II and Swtor I found the story line interesting and it held me until chapter 35 Very good story and plot flow until then, very few technical errors. I felt that the main character was a bit under and over powered, as it fought for balance. The last few chapters felt too f...

MegaRogueLegend666: I love this story so much. It's impossible to describe my excitement with each new chapter in words. The author has such a good writing style, very good descriptions of the fighting and character descriptions/emotions. the plot is also amazing! This fanfic could be a side anime show or novel ......
