Extra 4

Here, so you can either read this one as an extension of the 2nd extra or ignore it all together.

Esmerelle let out a heart-breaking sob and Alec let his eyes flutter shut, letting his head fall back against the wall. He was done fighting, he was done caring.

Alec's eyes snapped open and he found himself upright in bed breathing heavily with sweat pouring down his face. He ran a hand over the top of his head through his hair as he looked to the side. His wife still lay there, her blonde wavy hair rippling across the pillow like water, her soft breathes calming his racing heartbeat, her small but slightly rough hand laid inches from where his hand been. She was fine, she was safe: it was all a dream.

Still breathing heavily, Alec left his sleeping wife's side, pressing a soft kiss to her temple as he did so - she was there - and entered the household bathroom. He splashed water on his face and then stared at himself in the mirror, bracing himself against the sink.

It had been a few days since he had been home and he found he barely missed it at all: the Cullen home was so full with life there was never a dull moment. Esmerelle was always doting on her family: fixing her husband's tie, messing with Isabella's dress and, over the last few days as she got more comfortable around him, Alec had found her fixing his hair. He sometimes wondered if she did these things without noticing or if they just bugged her so she had to fix them - Isabella had jokily told him it was a bit of both resulting in her being hit playfully with a book as her mother passed by.

'Al?' a soft voice called out from the direction of where he'd come and he turned slightly.

You could see right into Isabella's, well his and Isabella's room now, from the bathroom and he could see her small frame standing in the doorway. Clearly, he'd woken her somewhere along the way. Her tired face morphed into concern as they skated over his features.

'Are you alright?' her voice was still quiet so she didn't wake her parents sleeping through the thin walls but it was laced with concern that was even more potent than was shown in her expression.

'Yes, my love, don't worry,' Alec whispered back to her. 'Go back to bed, everything's fine, I promise.'

She stared at him for a while and then moved toward him causing him to sigh heavily.

'Darling,' he began to assure her as she wrapped her arms around his waist. He cupped her face in his hands, 'get some rest, please, I can assure you nothing is wrong.'

'Your expression tells a different story from what is leaving your lips,' she frowned up at him and he quirked a smile at her: he should have known he never would have got away without a fight.

'Just a dream, come on,' he untangled her arms from around him and, holding one of her hands in his own, led her back to the bedroom.

'What was is it?' she asked as she scrambled quite literally back into the bed and Alec let his eyes flutter close as though warding off the memories. He opened them again when he felt her hands on his face and found himself staring into her burning brown orbs. He shook his head, swallowing.

'I lost you,' he told her hoarsely and her face softened.

Those orbs were still burning with curiosity but it seemed her caring heart was content with the vague answer. Her thumb caressed his face and she shuffled closer to press a chaste kiss on his lips.

'I love you more than life itself,' she told him and he winced painfully, normally he would love hearing her say that but now it just reminded him of his dream where he lost her to death. 'Alec!'

'I love you too,' he muttered out and he could tell this time she wasn't satisfied in the slightest but he kissed her before she could start off again. 'Please, my love, can we drop it? It wasn't real therefore it doesn't matter; I'd just like to forget it. I have you and if I have to remember that dream then I'll use to make damn sure what happened in it doesn't happen in real life. I love you, you are everything and all I need, and I won't allow anything to hurt you.'

'I died,' she breathed barely louder than a breath and he winced painfully again. 'Sorry, Al.'

She seemed to be at lost for words, her eyes jumped between each of his, her mouth parted a little. He managed to smile before she looked so adorable with her eyes slightly wider than usual and her eyebrows tilted up in the centre.

'I'm fine … now,' he murmured brushing a strand of hair out of her eyes and her eyes shut for a second at the touch before locking back with his. 'Izzy, I keep telling you, stop fussing you're going to drive yourself crazy.'

She blushed but Alec's mind jumped back to his dream when he had said a similar thing to her. Pulling his mind back he noticed her looking at him again; she clearly wasn't going to let this go.

'Tell you what,' he said, 'if it's still bothering me, I'll tell you in the morning.'

'You promise?'

'You have my word.'

Finally she conceded and moved to allow him into bed before curling up against him. He was almost asleep again when he heard her whisper, 'I could never survive now if I lost you,' but he was too far gone to reply.

Woo! There you go. Now you really can choose an ending :D Please tell me which your favourite is. x
