Premonitions

His eyes sparkled with mischief, the kind that was infectious.

It spoke of dares and silly pranks, staying up too late, and trespassing into restricted sections of stores and libraries—and not caring one bit.

“Come now, you aren’t scared, are you?”

She fell for it—hook, line, and sinker.

“No!” she exclaimed, putting her hands on her hips. “Go for it.”

He grinned, his teeth a dazzling white.

“As you wish, my lady,” he replied, bowing with a mocking flourish.

He clapped his hands once and turned. As he moved his hands apart, a hole tore through the air. He continued his deliberate motion until the hole was about ten feet wide, its edges flickering a white hot blue. She wanted to stare at the portal forever, taking down all the information she could, but the other side called to her as well.

What else would another world do for someone who yearned to explore?

It glittered and sparkled in twilight, more beautiful than she could have imagined. Flower covered hills seemed to be dripping in dew and stars were brighter and bigger in the night sky than they ever were on earth. In the distance, there was a great shining city that seemed to float on a giant lake with a waterfall before it spilled out to space.

“Oh… it’s…”

He took a step forward and placed his hands on her shoulders from behind, leaning down to whisper in her ear.

“We have a royal observatory and a library many times larger than your Library of Congress. Few go to either—we can study the stars so much better there.”

She turned around, excitement running through her veins.

“Really? You’re not kidding me? What are we waiting for?”

He chuckled, the sound comforting and still laced with that mischief.

“For you to take my hand and jump through with me.”

Jane gasped as she sat up in her bed, her hair going everywhere. That was a really, really weird dream.

She groaned and fell back onto her pillows when her alarm clock read that it was only three in the morning. She had school in the morning—what was she doing, waking up at a time like this? She was going to fall over her toast again and she didn’t want her parents wondering and worrying about sleep apnea or something else. It was just a dream.

Closing her eyes, she recalled the person she dreamed of.

He was tall, that she knew. Was he older than her? She seemed to be older in the dream herself, so maybe that was just her dreaming of something in the future. That episode of Star Trek—the one with the time portal—was her favorite. That was it. It wasn’t magic like the man claimed, just science they had yet to understand.

There weren’t any green-eyed men in her future.

Lydia Sherrer: I first read The Speaker almost a decade ago when I first discovered author Sandra Leigh. I loved it then, and I still love it now. It is a simple, easy read, yet deep in meaning and rich in storyline. I do not know what kind of research or prior knowledge Leigh has of First Nation tribes, but sh...

mrh: This interesting take on the Harry Potter series fascinated me from line one on. I am in love with this tale and its characters and cannot wait to read the next chapter. I look forward to more soon. When can I expect the next chapter? I am so excited to read it!

dapharoah69: I gotta hand it to you. This was a great read from start to finish. I am a big fan of witches, thanks to Anne Rice. The characters really reeled me in from the very first few chapters. You make reading fun.

Anjali Roongta: Amazing story! Update soon?I love the way you show the relationship between James, Theo and Harry but would love to see characters apart from the main ones, characters such as Remus and Sirius and such and see their interactions with our favourite dimension traveler. Overall, a delightful read.

Bella_Lee_Taylor: the plot of the story is good and I can't wait to read the second book, but you need to check your grammar because as I was reading there were were important parts of the story some of the spelling and grammar were out of place and the way you you worded things can be better but I can see that th...

Sandra Leigh: Sadly, the book left me wanting more. There are only 5 chapters and I want more! It is easily as good as The White Queen and The Other Boleyn Girl. I cannot wait for this one to be finished.

RedX9: I would love it if you would show how she is the bottom of the class. A paragraph alone isn't enough to show this.If she was such a screw up, how did she pass and graduate from the class. Are her teachers this lax that they would allow a screw up to graduate?I didn't understand the schooling syst...

Angel S. Adames Corraliza: Sensational! As a fan of superheroes, I have to say, you have a real winner of a story so far. I like that you made Allison a Wonder Woman expy, but kept her likable and relate-able in this first chapter. You showed us the Mother while also glancing at the Superhero, which I think is important to...

Colin Milroy: To begin, I don't think that the first review of this story was fair at all. Based on the popularity of this story, I would say the one-star review hasn't done much harm, but I still felt the need to address it. Now I will do my best to be constructive.I liked the concept of this story. I found i...

Alex Reltin: The way you build the world around the characters is amazing, and the way you get into the character's mind and make us feel for the characters through the entire story.
