The Ties That Bind

By vettac

Drama

Chapter 1

Faye's like an untamed colt, wild and free.

But she's not really free, not in this new world in which she finds herself. In her own time, she would have been, free to travel, free to explore, free to be. In this new world, she is imprisoned by the invisible fences that surround her, chains that are as strong as the strongest iron, and as hard as she tries, she cannot break free.

When she first wheedled her way onto the ship, she thought that these people would help her to break free of the chains of this place and time, and for a while it was true. But then she got to know them, and then it didn't matter when or where she was; once they knew the real you, you were chained to them and they to you, whether or not you liked it. The chains were like roots, and the longer she remained, the deeper the roots implanted. And when she looks at him …

Spike is the wild stallion chained to this world, yearning to be free, haunted by the chains that bind him here. He looks at Faye and sees the Romany that she has named herself; when he sees her struggle to free herself from the invisible chains that bind her, he wants to hold her in his arms to reassure her that they do not exist, that the only chains are those that hold her to him, but doing so would reveal to her the depth of his feelings for her, and that is something that she is not supposed to know. So he watches her from under his eyes, ready to pull her back if she breaks free.

And when she thought of him, she questioned whether she really wanted to break those chains.

In the end, he broke them for her.

LouiseJ2: I enjoyed the detail you went into with regards to the case. It made the UNSUB appear believable. The crisis in the middle of the story was my favorite part, very dramatic but not over the top. I feel like sometimes pairings can be overdone but I liked that some of the relationships were a little...

LesAnne: The blurb alone got me hooked. The story is intriguing and evocative. Despite the few typos, the writing style is effective and unique. Though I disliked stories that jump back and forth, this one I didn't mind. I even found myself looking forward to those 'moments'. I like Grace, her character ...

Carolyn Hahn-Re: I really liked this story! The writing was well done, and the plot was suspenseful. I couldn't stop reading chapter after chapter, on the edge of my seat! The characters were well developed, and true to form. Thank you so much for this wonderful read.

PaulSenkel: If you like Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey, especially The Final Odyssey, then you will probably also enjoy this book. I definitely did.It does, however, address a more adolescent public than the above-mentioned book.I enjoyed the story and finished it in a few days. The overall situation on earth an...

rajastreet: I enjoyed this piece! I loved the treatment of time and the premise! Some of the wording seemed a little out of place, but easily overlooked for a good a plot.

Janaki Sundararaman: The frame of the story has a beautiful structure on which the narration is spun with twists and turns tolook forward with lots of expectations about the coming chapters. There are many characters in the story line, all woven into intricate style to speak the story in its own way.The protagonist is ...

ianwatson: The comedy is original and genuinely funny, I have laughed out loud many times reading this book. But the story and the plot are also really engaging. The opening two or three chapters seem quite character-dense but they all soon come to life and there is no padding, filling or wasted time readin...

cyaniderush: Snow White has always been my least favorite princess. But the depth this story put to her fairy tale drastically changed that. The author misspelled words (such as 'shown' instead of 'shone') and had some minor grammatical errors, but the writing style was breathtaking, and I was drawn in right ...

: I took 1 day to finish this book and it was amazing! I hate it when some writers write typical melo-romance, i need something fresh and new, and saw this book. I was so amaze when i read and walah it was fantastic. Keep producing a good novel xx
