"Yuki." He buried his face in my neck. I shiver as his teeth bury themselves into my throat. "Go on, Zero. Have what you need." BOOK ONE OF THE ‘ELIXIR CHRONICLES’. Vampire Knight AU Yuki and Zero have been attending Cross Academy for the past several years. They may be distant in public, but, behind closed doors, they're closer than anyone believes. Secrets are also plentiful between the two, but there is one that will tear them apart. It strains their relationship and they both begin to wonder whether anything will ever be the same again. “That's why for you, you have the right to be cruel to me. No matter how much you make me worry or how much danger you put me in, just as much as you like. But these are not enough 'compensation.' Even if I have to sacrifice my left over life for you, I would not utter a word of complaint.” © nogitsunechey 2018

There is so much blood. It seems as though the walls had been deliberately painted in it, and had never been allowed to dry. No matter which way I turn, I cannot escape the scarlet walls and sweet scent of what I seem to have an undeniable craving for. I know that the blood isn’t really there, that it is just another hallucination, but it all seems so tangible and non-hallucinogenic.

When I believe that I have turned enough corners to escape the blood, I run into a wall. Except, it isn’t a literal wall; it is my brother, Kaname Kuran. Though there is no scent of the scarlet elixir, his eyes have their brilliant red hue and are staring at me as though I am of no relation to their owner - just a meal on legs and nothing more.

The Pureblood vanishes from my sensory range and blood trickles from the walls again, pooling around my feet as I stand frozen, staring at the horrid scene before me - an all too familiar one that I have seen before. His silver hair is matted with blood and his neck looks as though it has been torn into by a beast - a beast in Human form.

Out the corner of my eyes, I can seen blood dripping from my hands, and I have the sick feeling that I have done this to him. I run to him and kneel in front of him, clutching his shirt in my fists and laying my forehead against his chest. I feel his warm arms wrap themselves around me and hold me tightly to his trembling form.

“Yuki.” He buried his face in my neck.

I shiver as his teeth bury themselves into my throat. “Go on, Zero. Have what you need.”

The sound of him gulping down my blood reached my ears and I remove a hand from his shirt, only to place it on his matted, silver and red hair. At that, the scent hits me and I realise that it wasn’t only his blood; it was Kaname’s blood as well.

“You killed Kaname to save me,” Zero mumbles against my healing throat. “I didn’t think that I would see the day you’d do that for me.”

I lay her hands on Zero’s face. “I ran through a bloody maze to find you, and killed my own brother to keep you alive. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, Zero. You should know that by now.”

“You almost died saving me. I owe you more than my life.”

“And I owe you more than my own life as well.”
