True love conquers all Or not?

By Nefeli Michalopoulou

Romance

True love conquers all Or not?

True love conquers all. Or not?

Once upon a time there was a little Canadian girl. Let's call her Anna for now. Anna was a very beautiful professional figure skater. Every girl from her school wanted to look like her and every boy wanted to date her. Unfortunately for them, she was in a relationship. She was madly in love with her boyfriend, let's call him Kevin. One day they were ice skating in a lake near their school when her phone rang. Her mother told her that they were about to move in a different country. A country named Greece. She didn't want to leave her friends and loved ones, but she was forced to. Why Greece you're going to ask me? Well, because Greece is where Anna's grandparents lived. And with heavy heart, Anna kissed Kevin one last time and got on the plane to meet her doom.

*5 months later*

Life in Greece isn't easy. It's much hotter than Canada and the food is awful. Why should she eat lamp's liver? Nobody knew. Everything sucked. Especially school. When she first started, she was in 9th grade, everything seemed off. The teachers were hypocrites and the students made fun of her because she was different. Not only because of her different ethnicity, but also of her hair that were auburn and her peculiar eye color that was violet. Nobody talked to her and everyone called her a creep and a witch.

*10 months later*

Her mother, a figure skater coach, had bought the only reasonable sized ice ring in the country and after 7 months it was finished. Anna started her training again as a figure skater but she missed her partner. Victor, Kevin's brother, and she were the best ice dancers in their category and every time she skated, she remembered her friends and the thought of them made her cry. At least the two other ice skaters in the city, Nicolet and George, were friendly to her. They became friends rather quickly because they understood what Anna was going through and they both wanted to help her unlike everyone else.

*10.5 months later*

Anna was going to the ice ring for another day of training when suddenly she heard a familiar noise. It was her mother picked up her phone.

Anna- Hello

Mum- Hi. I want you to do me a favor.

Anna- Ok. What?

Mum- I want you to go to the ice ring.

Anna- I'm here already. Why?

Mum- Go to the arena and sit in the judge's panel.

Anna- Ok, but why?

Mum- You'll see. *ends call*

After that strange phone call,Anna followed her mother's instructions and sat at the judge's panel. After all, mother knows best, right? What she didn't expect was the lights to turn off and music to start playing. She was creeped out but then she saw someone entering the ring. It was Kevin! He skated until he reached her and then he asked her to dance with him. She couldn't deny him anything so she got up and took his hand.

Everything went so fast. How could he be there? Why? What was happening? When she found the courage to ask one of those questions, Kevin stopped her by kissing her passionately. She had missed their kisses, their passion, him. She had missed him!

When he broke up the kiss to leave them some time to catch their breaths, she asked him "Why are you here? Seeing you for a little time and then vanishing makes my heart shutter. I want us to be together but we are living in different cities. In different countries for Christ's sake. Please don't do this to me. I don't want us to be an illusion. I want it to be real. Please, go…"

Instead of leaving, Kevin kissed her again even more passionately. Anna triedto break it off but she had missed him so much and let him deepen the kiss. When he broke off, Kevin continued to hold her tight against him. "I won't leave. I promise." He said.

"But how?" she asked. "Your family and your friends are in Canada. You have to finish school. Why are you telling me this?"

"After you left, Victor and I were devastated. We didn't sleep, didn't eat, didn't even ice skated! So when mother asked us what was happening, we told her that being without you felt like dying. You are a big part of our lives, of my life. She understood what we were going through and told us that we were moving in Greece as soon as possible. It took us 9.5 months to get the papers ready, but we finally succeeded. And here we are."

Anna looked at him in awe. That was so romantic she thought. That could only happen in the movies, but who cares? He was there and they could be together. Anna hugged him tightly but suddenly she heard an annoying noise. She tried to ignore it but it grew closer.

When she couldn't stand it any longer, she finally looked around for the source of the noise and she realized that all this time she was asleep, dreaming and her alarm was ringing. Everything was a dream. She was still in Greece, alone.

Alex Rushmer: Chapter One: Not much is happening in this chapter, but I was absolutely fascinated by the depth of your character development. I love how you just sat there with the reader and explored Eddward. Usually, that sort of thing gets boring very fast, but this was actually really cool! He's so unique ...

Stephen Warner: To start off, I am thoroughly impressed. The writing style is somewhat unique, and the plot seemed to move at a nice and steady pace.
