Of UNO and Thunderstorms

Chapter Forty Four

Olympia's POV

After Eowyn was rushed to the Houses of Healing, Natalie, Legolas, Kate, Gimli and I made our way into the city. Eventually, enough extra beds were found for the wounded soldiers and the others who needed a place to sleep. I thought it a small miracle that enough of Minas Tirith was still standing that nearly everyone was able to find somewhere to sleep. At one point, we dragged Natalie back to the ships so we could get our stuff. She then dragged us with her so she could get hers.

Aragorn was helping out in the Houses of Healing and the rest of us had gathered in the room Natalie, Kate and I were going to share. Legolas and Gimli sat in a few chairs around the room and Kate, Natalie and I all sat on one of the beds. Merry was in the Houses of Healing and Pippin refused to leave him.

"So, what's new?" Natalie asked. I shrugged.

"Nothing really. How did you like having to dress like a guy to fight?" Kate teased.

"I felt like Mulan. Speaking of which, I told Merry and Eowyn that story." Natalie replied. Kate and I both laughed a little. Legolas and Gimli looked confused.

"Who is Mulan?" Gimli asked. Kate laughed again, and Natalie and I exchanged looks, grinning.

"Mulan was a woman in ancient China who dressed like a man and joined the army in place of her elderly and injured father. The movie about her is called 'Mulan' and it tells her story basically." I started.

"But it's a Disney movie, so that means there has to be some sort of comedy involved. In 'Mulan' the comic relief was in Mulan's grandmother, who was really funny, and a tiny sarcastic dragon named Mushu who was supposed to be Mulan's guardian." Natalie added.

We ended up telling them the whole story, musical numbers included. Kate had vehemently refused to do the musical numbers with us, despite Natalie and me pleading with her. Kate eventually dug a hairbrush out of her bag of stuff and started taking the braids out of her hair. Natalie and I did the same.

"I'm bored." Natalie broke the awkward silence that had fallen over us after she put her brush back in her bag.

"Hi Bored! I'm Olympia, that's Kate, that's Legolas and that's Gimli." I responded, pointing at everyone in turn. Natalie threw a pillow at me. Everyone else laughed. Kate's face then lit up. I gave her a look and she mouthed 'Cards' to me. I grinned internally and Kate dashed out of the room, saying something about having an idea.

"Where did she go?" Gimli asked. Natalie and Legolas shrugged. I smiled.

"She said she had an idea." I said simply.

"And what would that idea be?" Legolas asked.

"What makes everyone think I know?" I retorted.

"You're her sister. Aren't you supposed to know?" Natalie commented.

"Not really." I said, throwing the pillow back at Natalie. Natalie threw the pillow at me. I turned and threw it to Gimli, who raised an eyebrow at me, then threw it to Natalie. Natalie understood what I was getting at and we started playing catch with the pillow.

Soon, Kate walked back into the room with what looked like a deck of playing cards and a violin. Natalie, who had the pillow at the time, threw it at Kate.

"Um, why?" she asked, confused, when the pillow hit her. Natalie shrugged.

"We were playing catch with it." I told her. She nodded and sat back down on the bed, handing me the cards.

"Why the violin?" Natalie asked.

"Well seeing as I can't play the lute and there's no conceivable way to get a harp all the way here. Violin." Kate answered. Natalie gave her a half-hearted glare. I absent-mindedly started shuffling the cards as Kate started playing random songs on the violin she borrowed.

"Hey, Olympia! Do you want to sing?" Kate asked after a while.

"Not really." I replied. Kate made a face.

"Please?" Natalie asked.

"No." I told her, shifting uncomfortably and looking at my feet.

"Why not?" Kate asked.

"I don't want to." I argued. This went back and forth, with chuckling from the Peanut Gallery of Legolas and Gimli, until I threw a pillow at Natalie. Kate laughed and started playing. "Rascal Flatts?" I raised an eyebrow at my sister.

"I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house. That don't bother me.I can take a few tears now and then and just let 'em out.

I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while even though,Goin' on with you gone still upsets me.There are days every now and again I pretend I'm okay. But that's not what gets me.

What hurts the most,Was being so close. And havin' so much to say,And watchin' you walk away.

And never knowin'What could've been. And not seein' that lovin' youIs what I was tryin' to do.

It's hard to deal with the pain of losin' you everywhere I go.But I'm doin' it.It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone.Still harder gettin' up, gettin' dressed, livin' with this regret. But I know if I could do it overI would trade, give away all the words that I saved in my heartThat I left unspoken.

What hurts the mostIs being so close. And havin' so much to sayAnd watchin' you walk away.

And never knowin'What could've been. And not seein' that lovin' youIs what I was tryin' to do. OhOh yeah.

What hurts the mostWas being so close. And havin' so much to sayAnd watchin' you walk away.

And never knowin'What could've been. And not seein' that lovin' youIs what I was tryin' to do.

Not seein' that lovin' youThat's what I was trying to do."

I heard Natalie try to choke back a sob when I finished. I moved over and gave her a hug. Kate put the violin down and hugged Natalie too. We let her go after a minute. Kate decided to go give back the violin.

When she came back we taught Legolas and Gimli how to play BS. I was extremely opposed to playing seeing as I was, and still am, an awful liar. This obviously led to me losing nearly every round we played, thanks to Legolas and Kate calling me out on my lies. Natalie was a champ at BS and so she won nearly every round, to the annoyance of Gimli, who had made a great effort in trying to catch her lying.

After playing cards for a while, it was agreed that we all needed something to eat. So we found the kitchens and the cooks there gave us some food, after of course getting over the shock of seeing three Elves and a Dwarf. We ate in the corner of the kitchens and once we were finished, Kate, Natalie and Gimli decided to go back to the rooms. Legolas and I decided to go for a walk.

"Don't get lost!" Kate called to us as we headed off.

"We won't!" I told her, laughing. Legolas and I walked around Minas Tirith for a while. It was dark out and I stared up at the stars a lot. "I still can't get over how many stars I can see here." I commented. Legolas smiled and took my hand.

"I am glad you agreed to sing earlier, meleth nîn." Legolas told me. "You are a very good singer. In my opinion, at the very least, you have a beautiful voice." He added when I gave him a confused look.

"Thank you." I replied softly. "You know, we never did continue that conversation we were in Rohan having about your life." I mused after a moment.

"What else do you wish to know?" Legolas asked.

"What do you do in your free time?" I asked after thinking for a minute.

"I tended to train as a warrior quite often. My people fight constantly against the darkness that has taken hold in my homeland. When I had time, I enjoyed reading and drawing." He explained, looking quite sad when he talked about the darkness in Mirkwood. I squeezed his hand a bit and felt my eyes go wide.

"You draw?" I asked, surprised.

"Yes. I occasionally draw." Legolas replied.

"So do I. Francesca taught me when we were younger. We had a whole cast of made up characters and had wanted to write a book, or a graphic novel or something." I told him.

"Are you as talented an artist as you are a singer?" Legolas smiled at me. I blushed. "I know you and Francesca to have creative minds and I have no doubt that if you two were to write this book, it would be excellent." He added. I blushed harder.

"I don't think so. I'm a better singer. Though, apparently, I am a pretty good artist too." I replied. Legolas smiled. "I'm glad you think so highly of me." I told him.

"Olympia, I love you. What on Arda makes you think I would not think highly of you?" Legolas asked, stopping and turning to look at me.

"I-I don't know. I've never really had the highest self-esteem in the world." I answered, shifting on my feet. Probably because people used to make fun of me and Francesca at school, but we don't really need to go there. I thought.

"I cannot imagine why you would think this way, my love." Legolas said, giving me a hug.

"I do. Growing up, I was that girl who never really talked to anyone, never had a bunch of friends and got made fun of. In school Francesca and I, along with a couple others, sat at a table in the corner and kept to ourselves. Lots of other people would make fun of us because we were different from them." I explained, mentally smacking myself when my voice cracked at the end.

"I do not understand why people would act this way towards you. However, I wish for you to know how many friends you have here. And how much you mean to me." Legolas pulled back slightly to look at my face. "I love you, Olympia, just as you are now. My heart breaks to see you so upset this way." Legolas told me. I hugged him again.

"I think that is the sweetest thing anyone's ever said to me." I said. Legoals and I separated after a moment and he tilted my chin up so I could see him. I looked into his blue eyes and we both smiled. "I love you." I whispered.

"I love you as well." Legolas murmured. He leaned in and gently pressed our lips together. I smiled inwardly and kissed him back. We stayed like that until we ran out of air and had to pull apart.

"I think, we should be going back…Which way did we come from?" I asked, somehow unable to remember.

"I…do not know." Legolas furrowed his eyebrows.

"Kate jinxed us." I said almost immediately. Legolas chuckled. "Should we ask someone?" I whispered, looking at the few people who were still out and about.

Legolas nodded and we stopped one of the women we had seen in the Houses of Healing, asking how to get back to the rooms she'd shown us before. She nodded, smiling slightly, and led us back to our rooms. She then wished us a good night and left.

"Can we not tell anyone about us getting lost? Kate will never let me hear the end of it." I stated once the woman left. Legolas nodded.

"I do believe that Gimli would get his fair share of teasing me out of this situation as well." Legolas commented. We both laughed.

"Buenos noches, Legolas. Te amo." I told Legolas, giving him a hug. He hugged me back.

"I believe you have said that before, though I do not remember what it means." Legolas admitted.

"It means, 'Good night, Legolas. I love you.'" I translated.

"I love you as well, Olympia." Legolas told me. My heart skipped a beat, as it does every time Legolas says that he loves me. I smiled and looked up at him. Legolas then leaned in and kissed me. I kissed him quickly and we both went to our separate rooms. Natalie was asleep when I walked into the room and Kate was trying to sleep.

"Good night, Kate." I said as I plopped unceremoniously onto my bed.

"Good night, Olympia." She replied. I smiled and went to sleep.
