Taehyung didn’t want to leave Jungkook on his own whilst he drove to his publisher’s company for a meeting on his book, but as the boy was still refusing to change out of his wolf form he had no choice but to. He gave the wolf a small kiss on the top of his head before he made his way to the front door to leave, letting out a small sigh when he doesn’t even react in the slightest bit to it.
It had been three days since Jin and Namjoon visited and Jungkook had not been the same since. Taehyung hasn’t even tried to ask about it, he doesn’t want Jungkook to feel like he’s being pushed into anything, he wants him to take his time to heal. He’s been much clingier lately as well which Taehyung can’t help but enjoy, he likes feeling like he’s keeping Jungkook comforted in his time of need.
After his meeting with his publisher, Taehyung decides to head into the town to grab some of Jungkook’s favourite things from the market in order to help cheer him up. If he could make his tail wag even in the slightest it would be a victory for him, he can’t just sit around and watch him be sad any longer, he needs to start sprinkling some happiness around him in order to get the same happy Jungkook back that he missed so much.
When he gets home he’s met with the site of Jungkook still laying on the sofa, his eyes staring out of the large window almost lifelessly. “Hey Kookoo. I have good news, my publisher loved my book so far, there are a few pacing issues and she hates what I’ve done with one of the characters so there’s a small amount of editing needed but it’s a massive step up from my first book! Also, I stopped by the market and got you your favourite cut of steak, the butcher told me how fresh they were so I got a few. I thought we could have a celebratory feast.” Jungkook looks up at that, his eyes shining for a second before he looks back down.
Taehyung sighs and moves over to the kitchen to put everything in the fridge, humming softly to himself before he feels a wet nose nudging at his hand. “Need a hug?” He asks, knowing exactly what the answer to that question was. He quickly finishes up with packing everything away and walks back to the sofa with Jungkook, laying down before the wolf squeezes on to lay down next to him.
“I know it’s probably not the same because I’m not a werewolf like your friends are, but you’ll always have me around. I could go out into the forest with you more if you need the company, I should probably be getting way more exercise than I am anyway, and exploring might be fun.” Taehyung makes an attempt to comfort as he brushes his fingers through black fur, although he knows he’ll never be able to fully be a good enough alternative. “I know I’ll never be them, but I can try my best to somehow be enough..” He feels himself drifting off to sleep, Jungkook’s warm fur always did have the ability to lull him to sleep so easily. With a nuzzle from the wolf he falls into his dream world without even a second thought.
Taehyung wakes up around dinner time, a pleasant smell filling his senses and he blinks himself awake. He feels the cold empty space by his side and glances around in confusion, eyes still blurry from having just woken up but he’s able to make out a figure standing over the stove in the kitchen.
“Kookoo?” Taehyung says, voice still rough from sleep.
“Oh, you’re awake. I thought I’d attempt to make dinner, you shouldn’t be making your own celebratory meal after all.” Jungkook smiles, oh how Taehyung had missed that beautiful smile.
“You’re not a wolf...”
“Well it’s a little hard to cook with my paws, so I figured it would be best if I shifted.” Jungkook laughs.
Taehyung approaches the younger once he’s feeling more awake, eager to not allow him to do all the cooking. He’s surprised when his hand gets slapped away from the vegetables, tilting his head at Jungkook in confusion as to why he slapped him.
“You’re not lifting a finger, so get a drink and sit down whilst I do all the work.”
“As I said, you shouldn’t be making your own celebratory meal.” Jungkook smiles once again and Taehyung’s eager to comply, anything to keep that smile on his face.
Taehyung decides he likes this scene with Jungkook in the kitchen making him dinner, something about it felt wonderfully domestic like something out of a storybook. He doesn’t know what happened to make Jungkook’s mood change so quickly, it was as if he fell asleep and woke back up in another universe where everything was happy again. Not that he was complaining, it was everything he had wanted for days now.
The dinner was done sooner than he expected it to be, and boy did it look good. Jungkook had certainly improved a lot with his cooking ability, always helping Taehyung out with the meal preparations so he learnt quickly about how to do things by himself. Taehyung thanks Jungkook for the food before getting stuck in, almost moaning at how good everything tasted. He couldn’t be more grateful to be sharing the moment with Jungkook, seeing him smile as they spoke about random things between bites just like always.
After the dinner was eaten and everything was cleaned up, Taehyung decided to ask Jungkook about everything, desperately wanting to know if he was really feeling okay now or if he was just acting. “Can we talk?”
“Sure,” Jungkook agrees as he sits on the sofa, knowing exactly what the conversation would be about.
“So, are you actually feeling better?”
“I mean, not entirely. But I realised I couldn’t stay sulking, that’s not going to bring my friends and family back after all. As you said, I have you. You’re my mate and I should appreciate your presence more, I’ve been taking it for granted these past few days.”
“No, you haven’t.”
“I have. Besides, I promised Jinie and Joonie that I would speak to you about some things, I can’t do that if I’m a wolf.” Jungkook laughs.
“Talk to me about what?” Taehyung plays dumb, he knew exactly what they had to talk about but he didn’t want to assume anything in the situation.
“About this whole mate thing... I don’t want to scare you off, but there are things you should know before we talk about if you want to be with me or not. Obviously, I’m completely in love with you so the decision is completely yours. If you want to reject me as your mate then I’ll respect that.”
Taehyung furrows his brows, “reject you as my mate?”
“Well, yeah. It’s nothing for humans I don’t think, but for us, it’s a painful experience. Don’t let that influence your decision though, I can deal with it.”
“I’d never reject you,” Taehyung says in an almost whisper and Jungkook lets out the breath he didn’t even know he was holding, relieved by the statement.
“Well, being my mate doesn’t mean anything serious, to you it will just be like we’re married sort of? But to me it will be this amazing link to you, it will make it feel as if we share a soul just like a proper soulmate.” Jungkook gushes about the mating bond, his eyes lighting up as he speaks.
Taehyung can’t help but smile at him, his heart swelling at how excited Jungkook was by the whole thing. “I want to seal our bond,” he speaks without thinking as if his body made the choice for him.
“Wait- really? But I haven’t even explained the whole sealing process to you...”
“Knot me, bite me, that’s it, right? I don’t really know it in details, but it can’t be THAT bad.”
“Tae, the whole thing will be painful. Biting you will leave a permanent scar that everyone will be able to see, and you don’t even know what knotting is.” Jungkook tries to reason, he didn’t want Taehyung to make his mind up when he’s not even fully aware of what will happen during the process.
“Talk me through it then, but I bet I won’t change my mind.”
“Well, it’s intimate so we’ll have to have sex...”
“And? We’d have sex at some point during our relationship anyway.”
“Wait, we’re in a relationship?” Jungkook lights up like a Christmas tree from the words.
“Well I’m accepting the bond, so I should hope we are.” Taehyung laughs.
Jungkook could start yelling from the amount of happiness coursing through his veins, being with Taehyung is all he has wanted for the longest time now so that being confirmed was music to his ears. It takes a little while for him to compose himself and get back to the serious chat, now not wanting to say what he had to in fear of the elder changing his mind. “Right, yeah, okay. So, sex... it will be normal, up until the point where I let’s say ‘finish’.”
“Then what will change?”
“Have you ever heard of dogs when they mate? Their thing gets bigger at the end to lock them into the female dog in order to breed them?”
“Yeah?” Taehyung is confused for a second before he connects the dots, letting out a noise of realisation as it sinks in. “So you’ll do that... to me...”
Jungkook nods, his heart stopping for a moment as he watches Taehyung go through everything in his own mind. How he wishes he had the ability to read minds at this moment, there was nothing more painful than not knowing how Taehyung was taking all the new information in.
“Okay, I can handle that... I think.”
“It’s okay if you can’t, we can just be together like normal if you’re more comfortable with that. I’m fine with whatever you want, Tae.”
“Honestly, I want to seal the bond. Even though I can’t really feel anything I know that you can, and I want to be able to do this for you. Let me, please?” Taehyung shuffles along the sofa to softly cup Jungkook’s face, giving him comfort that he was serious about this.
Jungkook can’t help but agree, the fact Taehyung was willing to do all of this for him making him feel light with joy. He closes the gap between their faces, both of them eager to finally be able to kiss after a whole three days of not doing so. Jungkook will make sure the bond sealing process is as painless as possible for his mate, he would never want to hurt him after all.
