Man's Best Friend | Taekook

☾ 15 ☾

During the summer, the market within the small town was always much better then before. To Taehyung everything seemed brighter, the fruit and vegetables seemed riper, the flowers looked prettier and everyone shopping seemed to have a wider smile upon their face. But that could also be down to the fact that he was so happier now, with his hand placed in Jungkook’s as they laughed and looked around the different displays together enjoying the warm sun beating down on them, everything just felt so much brighter.

By now the butcher knew the couple by name since they always bought so much meat from him on a weekly basis. The fact probably should be embarrassing for them since they always buy enough meat to feed a family of six, but it’s become the norm at this point so they couldn’t even begin to care, even though Taehyung still is very aware of the strange looks they get when Jungkook very clearly tries to sniff out which pieces of meat are the freshest. It was when the younger was doing just that he sensed something, something that he had been sensing for a while now.

“You’re feeling sick again.” Jungkook furrows his brow as he whispers to Taehyung, a look of concern painted all over his face.

“I’m fine, just feeling a little lightheaded again but I’ll be okay.”

“I’m fine, Kookoo. Just choose your meat.” Taehyung says with a smile that he hopes is enough to put Jungkook’s mind at ease, but he knows the fact he can sense that he’s definitely not feeling okay will make it almost impossible for him to do just that.

In reality, Taehyung was not feeling at all fine and he had been for a couple of weeks now. It comes in waves, headaches and feeling lightheaded, stomach pains and the occasional feeling as if he was about to vomit. He debated about seeing a doctor about it but ultimately decided against it knowing he’ll only worry Jungkook if he did that. He thought it would pass, that maybe it was just some kind of flu he picked up from the people at the market but he’s never had a flu that’s lasted so long. It worries Jungkook but he doesn’t want to pry on the situation knowing that he’ll only cause Taehyung to be mad at him, but when he can sense his mate being in such discomfort it almost makes it impossible not to.

“Maybe we should head home now, you need to lie down.”

“I told you I’m fine. We haven’t bought any fruit or veg yet, don’t you use me as an excuse to not eat healthily.” Taehyung tries to joke to lighten the mood but he can tell that Jungkook was having none of it.

“I know you’re not feeling okay, we could head to the doctors and try and get you an emergency appointment or something-”

“You’re acting like I’m dying when I just feel a little lightheaded.”

Jungkook sighs, “Tae you’ve been like this for weeks now, we should take you to a doctor.”

“If I’m still feeling like this on Monday then I’ll go, okay? I promise you.” Taehyung makes a compromise that Jungkook agrees to reluctantly. He’ll definitely be making sure he goes to the doctor on Monday if he even senses the slightest bit of discomfort.

On that note, the couple return back to shopping, only this time with Jungkook keeping a careful eye on his mate to make sure he really was okay.

“It’s gonna be a full moon tomorrow night,” Jungkook says as he helps Taehyung pack away all the items they’ve bought.

“What happens to you during it? Do you go psycho like in all those werewolf movies?”

“No,” Jungkook answers with a laugh, amused by the statement. “Nothing happens really, we just get some extra energy off of the moonlight. It’s like a giant power source, It’s only really useful for the packs that wanna fight others.”

“That’s kind of boring.” Taehyung mumbles.

“I’ve heard rumours that it’s amazing to have sex under the full moon, maybe that’s something we could try,” Jungkook suggests with a wiggle of his eyebrows, causing Taehyung to hit him with the lettuce he was holding.

“There’s no way I’m having sex outside, who knows who could walk past!”

“Who’s the boring one now?”

Taehyung attempts to hit Jungkook again but this time he expertly dodges the incoming attack, laughing loudly as he did so. Taehyung can’t help but laugh along with him, maybe it’s something he could consider doing in the future. Besides, they’ve never seen another person within the forest this far so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to.

The next morning Taehyung wakes up feeling the worst he’s ever felt, his body ached like he had run a marathon and he was burning all over. Maybe he shouldn’t have jinxed everything yesterday when he confidently said he wasn’t dying because right now he definitely feels as if he was. He feels Jungkook stir in the bed beside him and tries not to wake him up, but the younger must’ve sensed it since he bolted upright and hovered over him not even a second later.

“Baby, what’s wrong?” Jungkook says with concern as he looks down at Taehyung.

“Hurt-” Taehyung says in a pained voice, not even able to get the words out of his mouth.

The whole scene seemed oddly familiar to Jungkook, he remembers the morning of his eighteenth birthday when he woke up in the same state, body overheating and aching all over as it was preparing itself to present. But Taehyung was human so this shouldn’t be happening to him, at least that’s what the younger tells himself, then again he never was educated on what happens when you seal the bond with your human mate.

Jungkook decides to not question anything just yet as he scrambles off the bed and runs to the bathroom to get a cold towel, hoping to at least be able to soothe Taehyung’s high temperature. He’s back within a minute to start dabbing at the elders face, his heart rate slowing back down when he realises it’s helping a little.

“W-what’s happening?” Taehyung asks, confusion and pain evident in his eyes.

“I- uh- I- I don’t know, baby.” Jungkook honestly replies, he really wishes he had someone around to ask but he knows he’s on his own now. There’s not another werewolf pack around for miles that he knows of, so for today, he’s just going to have to wing this whole situation.

“It hurts.”

“I know it does, I’m sorry.”

“W-why are you apologising?” Taehyung winces as he speaks, evidence that the pain coursing through his body was definitely not stopping just yet.

“Uh- I don’t know but I feel as if this is my fault...” Jungkook trails off, understanding he’s probably making no sense whatsoever. “Just try to sleep okay? It’ll be okay soon.”

Taehyung nods as Jungkook rests the wet towel on his forehead in an attempt to make him comfortable enough to sleep again. It takes a while but finally Taehyung’s body tires itself out enough to put him to sleep making Jungkook sigh with relief, at least the elder was okay for the time being.

A couple of hours later panic begins to set into Jungkook’s body when Taehyung still hadn’t awoken, the moon was beginning to rise and he had no idea what he was supposed to expect. Every pained grunt and stir from the elder only made him panic more, he thought sleep would soothe him but it seems the pain only followed him into his slumber. A million thoughts flood his brain as he watches over his mate, he was still sleeping peacefully which he hoped was a good sign but then again he didn’t know what was good or bad in any of this. He buries his head in his hands as he attempts to steady his breathing, he can’t panic when he’s meant to be taking care of Taehyung.

“Kookoo?” A deep, rough voice sounds next to him causing his head to shoot up immediately.

“Tae! Are you okay? Do you still hurt?”

“I feel weird...” Taehyung says, not knowing what exactly he was feeling.

“Bad weird?” Jungkook asks as he moves closer to check over him. As soon as he’s close enough he hears Taehyung inhale deeply and watches in confusion as he shuts his eyes in content.

“I can smell you,” Taehyung states as he opens his eyes, and Jungkook almost screams when he sees them now an icy blue colour. “Banana and cinnamon... you smell so good.”

The elder sits up and closes the rest of the distance between them, burying his face in Jungkook’s neck to bask in his scent, something that the younger often does to him. “T-Tae...” Jungkook shakily says, only becoming more and more confused as the situation progressed.

“Kiss me,” Taehyung says in an almost pleading tone as he pulls back, his eyes still sparking that beautiful blue colour as he looks into Jungkook’s own chocolate brown ones.

Jungkook couldn’t refuse, not even taking a second to think before he closes the space between them and captures Taehyung’s lips in a heated kiss. He wasn’t prepared for any of this to happen, he doesn’t even truly understand what any of this is yet but as he gets lost in the elder’s lips he’s finding it harder and harder to think about it.

“Wow,” Taehyung says in a daze as they pull apart, his eyes finally returning to their natural deep brown shade.

“You can feel it? Our bond?”

“I could always feel it, It’s just much stronger now. And your scent, Jesus Christ it’s driving me insane... what’s happening to me?”

“You’re an omega,” Jungkook tells him, knowing those blue eyes can only relate to one kind of wolf.

“An omega? Kookoo, I’m not even a werewolf.” Taehyung almost laughs, but he can sense the seriousness of the situation so he stops himself.

“Your eyes shone blue when you smelt me, that’s the sign of an omega.”

“But how? Wouldn’t all this of happened when you first bit me? Isn’t that how it works?” Taehyung’s head starts to hurt, he can’t believe what was happening, nothing seemed to be making sense to him.

“It must be something to do with the full moon, maybe you needed to power from it to fully turn... I’m so sorry, Tae. If I knew this would happen I would’ve made you think more carefully about sealing the bond... this is all my fault.” Jungkook regretfully speaks, tears running down his face when it all finally hits him.

Taehyung is quick to move over and straddle the younger, carefully cupping his face as he shushes him to keep him calm. “It’s okay, you didn’t know.”

“But I should’ve. I should’ve tried to talk you out of it more, I was stupid to think a human and werewolf could just be mates without anything changing. I knew it was a stupid choice, and now I’ve ruined your life.”

“You haven’t ruined my life, don’t be silly.”

“I have! You’ll have to lie to your friends and family, you’ll never be able to live a normal life now you’re like this.” Jungkook continues to cry, all he could feel was guilt surging through his veins.

“I don’t care,” Taehyung states as he looks directly at Jungkook, letting him know he was not just saying to words to calm him down. “When I chose to seal the bond I was choosing you over everything, this just brings us closer together.”

“No but’s. This is a massive change for me, yes. But I’ve got you to help me through everything and that’s all I need.”

Jungkook finally allows himself to look into Taehyung eyes, all of his worries being soothed as soon as he did so. Taehyung had the power to make everything better in less than a second, his body instantly melting with just the touch of his hand. “Are you sure?”

“Well there’s no going back now, so I’m sure.” Taehyung giggles.

“I promise I’ll help you through this. I don’t know much about omegas, but then again I don’t even know much about alphas and I am one. I just have all useless information about betas floating around in my brain.” Jungkook laughs as he shakes his head slightly, not pleased with the irony of the situation.

“We’ll figure it out,” Taehyung flashes him a smile. He was scared but he refused to let Jungkook see that, the whole situation was completely overwhelming and his brain was having a hard time trying to process everything. The fact he was no longer human was a scary concept, he didn’t even know where to begin in adjusting to this new life that had just been thrown at him.

But, as Jungkook holds Taehyung in his arms and his senses are filled with his scent its as if his whole body was in heaven. He’s finally able to feel the bond at the intensity he’s always dreamed about, and if it feels like this then everything can’t be too bad, at least he hopes. With Jungkook by his side, he knows he’ll be able to work everything out eventually, no matter how hard he needs to try.
