Man's Best Friend | Taekook

☾ 17 ☾

Jungkook didn’t know how much he truly missed being in the presence of another wolf until Taehyung become one. Now when he runs he can hear sweet giggles instead of just the empty wind, he sees sparkling white fur instead of just a dull opening of trees, he smells Taehyung’s intoxicating scent instead of just the heavy musky smell from the space around him that he had grown to hate. Everything was perfect, and that was once again thanks to Kim Taehyung.

“You’re staring.” Taehyung teasingly says as he makes his way over to his mate.

“Because you’re beautiful.”

“If I wasn’t a wolf right now I would definitely be blushing.” Taehyung shamelessly admits, feeling special from the compliment. He nuzzles his snout against Jungkook’s mane, loving the way that the younger instantly leans into him from the touch. “You know, we’ve been together for months now and we’ve never been on a real date.”

“A date?” Jungkook pulls back to look at Taehyung, cocking his head in confusion.

“You don’t know what a date is? When you go out with the person you’re interested in, eat some food, maybe go to the movies?”

“Tae, I’m a werewolf, I don’t even know what ‘go to the movies’ means.” Jungkook laughs lightly. “We just find out mates and stick with them for life, we don’t ‘date’.”

“Right, I always forget you come from a different world,” Taehyung says sadly.

Jungkook nudges the elder playfully, an attempt to soften the mood. “It doesn’t mean we can’t go out on a date, I’d love to.”

“Really?” Taehyung excitedly says, his tail wagging happily behind him.

“Of course, whatever makes you happy.”

“Yay! We can go to this cute café in town that I’ve always wanted to go to, and spend some time in the bookstore, and get dinner in that small steakhouse that always smells so good!” Taehyung walks in circles as he lists all the fun things he’s planning, the cuteness making Jungkook feel warm inside.

“Anything you want.” Jungkook agrees without hesitation.

Taehyung squeals with joy as he stops in front of Jungkook, his tongue coming out to lick at Jungkook’s face earning a squirm and a childish ‘ew’ from the younger. “You don’t want my wolf kisses? I’m offended.”

“You’re making my fur all wet.”

“I’m giving you my love!”

“By covering me in saliva?”

Taehyung gasps, backing away from Jungkook with a look of hurt in his eyes. “Well, if you don’t want my kisses then I guess I’ll go.”

“I was joking, don’t leave me. I love your kisses, wolf form or not.” Jungkook says as approaches Taehyung only for the other to keep walking backwards.

“Prove it.”

“How?”

“Catch me,” Taehyung says before running off, his laughter ringing through Jungkook’s head sounding like the most beautiful symphony he’s ever heard.

Jungkook shakes his head before running after Taehyung, he knows he could catch him within a second being much faster than the elder is but he indulges him, slowing his pace to allow Taehyung to feel as if he was winning. This was definitely the happiest he’s ever been in his life.

The couple decides to go on a date the next day, it was early afternoon when they decided to head into town and get started on the list of things that Taehyung wanted to do. Jungkook was more than willing to go along with all of the elder’s plans, seeing how he excited he was for the day had Jungkook not even thinking twice about it. He’s even bouncing with excitement on their drive into town, the sight making the younger smile until his cheeks start to ache.

Their first stop was a little café a short way away from the market, the establishment cute and cosy, and to Taehyung the perfect spot for his first date with Jungkook.

“This place is filled with coffee, you’re going to love it.” Taehyung says as he drags the younger inside excitedly, his eyes immediately checking out the decor.

The smell of coffee was overwhelming when they entered the café, Taehyung still wasn’t entirely used to his heightened senses and not being a lover of coffee at the best of times he couldn’t help but move closer to Jungkook in the hope his mate’s scent will block it out. Jungkook instantly notices the movement and wraps an arm around Taehyung’s waist to keep him close as they approach the counter to order, the intimate action making them both smile softly.

Taehyung orders himself a mint tea and Jungkook orders a black coffee (which he gets teased for since the choice was so basic), they order a slice of chocolate cake and a chocolate chip cookie to share which was probably going to make them feel sick afterwards but right now they couldn’t care less. They’re all smiles and giggles as they drink their drinks and get stuck into the sweet treats, Taehyung speaking fondly about a coffee shop back home where he originally got the idea for his first novel from. The memory made him nostalgic but he can’t say that he misses home, he much prefers the cabin he lives in now and the life he’s made with Jungkook.

Their next stop was the bookstore, an old building filled with all the classics that Taehyung had grown up reading. It was definitely a more pleasing smell than the coffee shop, the smell of old books mixed with the freshly printed ones was something Taehyung could get used to. He takes Jungkook towards a shelf that stored all of Stephen King’s novels, recalling memories of when he used to read them before bed and made himself so frightened he couldn’t sleep. Jungkook laughs at the stories, loving how much he was learning about Taehyung, all the reminiscent stories making him feel closer to the elder.

“Does he have any stories about werewolves?” Jungkook asks curiously as he scans the books, reading all of the titles carefully.

“He does actually, but it’s all short stories about werewolves killing people... It doesn’t make us seem like good people at all.” Taehyung shrugs.

Jungkook can’t help but smile, not at the fact the book makes werewolves seem like vicious killers, obviously, he doesn’t like the sound of that. He smiles because Taehyung said ‘us’ when referring to werewolves, finally accepting that he is one without even a second thought, it was the first time he had ever done so.

“What are you smiling about?” Taehyung teases, elbowing Jungkook slightly.

“Nothing, I’m just happy.”

“Big softie.” Taehyung laughs, his attention shifting back to the shelves full of books when Jungkook’s attention remains on him.

They spend a while longer at the bookstore, scanning books whilst Taehyung points out his favourites, reminiscing stories from the time he was reading them. He almost squeals the whole place down when he sees his own novel sitting amongst other big names, it had always been his dream to be able to walk into a bookstore and see his own work there, the fact it finally happened made his heart want to burst. Jungkook can’t help but feel pride well up inside him, loving the way the elder smiled so brightly it could rival the sun.

Next, they made their way to a small antique store. The place itself was kind of dark and dingy, but the items inside intrigued Taehyung and however sketchy it may have seemed he still decided to drag Jungkook inside. It turned out to be quite a fun experience, both of them taking turns to guess the history behind a certain item that they’d come across. They laughed until their stomachs hurt, the stories they came up with so far from even being possible they couldn’t help but do so.

“Do you think this has anything to do with werewolves?” Taehyung asks as he turns a wood carving of a wolf around in his hand.

“Maybe, it looks hand carved so a werewolf could’ve made it.” Jungkook curiously runs his finger over the carving, feeling intrigued by the item. “Or it could’ve been a weird wolf enthusiast, who knows?”

Taehyung laughs, the thought of the carving just being done by a man who loved wolves seemingly amusing to him. “We should get it, I think it would look good in the cabin.”

Jungkook hums in agreement and follows Taehyung over to the counter, the old man behind it looking surprised that someone actually wanted to buy something for a change.

“This is a wonderful find, it’s said to be an ancient werewolf fertility statue.” The old man laughs as he rings the purchase up. “It’s obviously fake, but it’s still a nice decoration for the house.”

Jungkook and Taehyung both laugh at the man’s words, going along with what he was saying even though they know werewolves are far from fake. They pay for the item before swiftly leaving, still laughing amongst themselves as they leave.

“Werewolf fertility statue, huh? Maybe we’ll have tons of adorable babies soon.” Jungkook smirks, getting nudged by Taehyung to get him to shut up.

“We’re both men, it’s impossible.”

“We’re also mythical creatures. Anything can happen, Tae.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Taehyung dismisses the conversation with a roll of his eyes, even though he secretly doesn’t think that it sounds like a bad idea. He’d love to start a family with Jungkook one day, and having kids that were biologically theirs is something he’d love more than anything.

Their last stop of the day is a quiet little steakhouse, which obviously excited them both from the promise of meat. They ended up ordering an unhealthy amount of meat for just two people and gaining themselves a few questioning glares from the waitress, not that it put them off in the slightest. They filled their stomachs up until they couldn’t possibly eat any more, feeling full and satisfied by the end of it.

They headed home after that, deciding to take an evening walk instead of a run once they were back at the cabin since they were still feeling way too full after dinner. They ended their night sitting on their usual rock together, the evening breeze blowing through their fur as they enjoyed each other’s presence. Their first official date was everything Taehyung wanted it to be, and even though Jungkook was foreign to the concept before yesterday, there’s nothing he would’ve enjoyed more.
