Man's Best Friend | Taekook

☾ 21 ☾

Taehyung felt happier as the days past, now he was out of the early stages of pregnancy he was finally waking up without the feeling of wanting to throw all his guts up and his mood swings were practically gone. Everything was so much calmer, and with the beautiful shiny ring now adorning his finger and seeing the matching one on Jungkook’s own, he really believes he’s ready for the whole parenthood chapter of his life.

“I’m going to have to teach you to drive or something, I’m getting too big already to keep going out without gaining weird stares, and there’s no way we’ll be able to stock up seven months worth of food.” Taehyung voices out when morning over breakfast, causing the younger to look at him weirdly.

“Why would we need seven months worth?”

“Well I’m already two months pregnant which means I have seven months left, right?”

“Why would you be pregnant for nine months? That’s way too long, you can’t hold the baby in,” Jungkook laughs as he takes another bite of his food thinking Taehyung was joking.

“Because that’s the normal pregnancy time… did your parents not teach you anything about birth and all that?” Taehyung answers back, confusion mounting within him.

“Why would anyone be pregnant for nine months? The longest I’ve seen any werewolf pregnant for was five months, and that was only because Yuri was carrying triplets.”

“You’re telling me that we don’t have human cycles?”

“I didn’t know there was a difference, but clearly there is.”

Taehyung face drops from the words, his fork slipping out of his fingers and noisily clanging against his plate. “How long is normal then?”

“Three to four months usually.” Jungkook shrugs, not seeing what the big deal was. If anything he would’ve thought Taehyung would be happy to have the pregnancy over quicker than he thought.

“Kookoo, I’m already halfway through! We don’t have anything for the baby, no clothes, no bed, no supplies! We can’t make it sleep on the floor, or in the trees!”

“Tae, calm. We have time, okay?”

“Not if I keep getting fatter we don’t! I already look like Santa Claus before his diet.” Taehyung huffs, the stress of everything piling back onto him.

“Santa- who now?” Jungkook cocks his head, not understanding a word of what Taehyung was saying. He shakes his head before grabbing the elder's hands from across the table, trying his best to keep him calm. “It’ll be fine, okay? We can go out today, get stuff for the baby so we’re prepared. Then tomorrow you can start teaching me to drive, I’m a fast learner so it shouldn’t be too difficult.”

“But we haven’t even cleared out the study to make room for the baby yet.”

“It’ll take me two seconds to do that. Just please calm down, stress isn’t good for the baby.”

Taehyung slumps back into his chair trying to calm himself down, he really needs to stop panicking so much over every single little thing. He breathes deeply for a minute in order to calm down before speaking again, “I really wish I could go for an ultrasound, not knowing anything about the baby just makes me more stressed.”

“Yeah. It’s some machine that allows you to see the baby, even lets you listen to their heartbeat.” Taehyung explains, smiling at the look of fascination on Jungkook’s face.

“Well I can’t see the baby, but alphas have extremely good hearing so maybe I can try and hear the heartbeat?”

“Go for it,” Taehyung leans back and motions to his stomach.

“Can you at least lie down?”

“Wow, demanding, but sure.”

Jungkook laughs at the sarcasm before following Taehyung over to the sofa and helping him lie down, bunching up his shirt to get better access to his stomach. “If this doesn’t work promise me you won’t be too disappointed, okay?”

“I promise, my expectations will be kept low,” Taehyung gives him a thumbs up.

“Your faith in me is truly inspiring.”

“You don’t want me to get my hopes up so I’m not!”

“You could’ve at least encouraged me.”

“Stop being a big baby.”

After mumbling out an ‘I’m not a baby’ and then contradicting his own words by pouting childishly, Jungkook finally focuses on what he was actually meant to be doing. He takes a hopeful breath before placing an ear against Taehyung’s stomach, the elder watching him patiently.

“Hear anything?” Taehyung asks after a minute of Jungkook moving around.

Jungkook frowns before stilling, the frown then moulding into a bright smile. “I can hear it!”

“Really?! Does it sound okay?” Taehyung excitedly asks, although he’s a little jealous that he couldn’t hear their baby’s heartbeat as well.

“Wait.” Jungkook’s smile drops to a confused look, moving around more which makes Taehyung panic.

“What? What’s happening? Is the baby okay?”

“Don’t freak out…” Jungkook tells the elder after a while as he sits back on his heels.

“You’re making me freak out by not telling me what’s going on!”

“There’s uh- there’s two heartbeats…”

Taehyung blinks back at Jungkook, naively not registering what that means. “So our baby has two hearts… is that normal for werewolves?”

“What? No, Tae. Twins.” Jungkook says, trying his best not to laugh at the elders previous comment.

A moment of silence goes by before Taehyung finally reacts and Jungkook can’t help but hold his breath when he opens his mouth to speak. “Oh thank God, I thought there was something seriously wrong,” he casually says before sitting up.

“You’re not freaked?”

“Not really, It’s one less time I have to get pregnant after all.” Taehyung laughs, enjoying the look of shock and confusion on the younger’s. “Are you not happy about it?”

“Of course I am! I just didn’t expect you to be so calm.” Jungkook nervously laughs, scared Taehyung was going to change his mind and actually decide he wasn’t okay with it after all.

“I mean triplets I would’ve been panicking about, but I’ve actually always dreamed about having twins. That fertility statue is really working it’s magic for us, but maybe we should throw it out since I’m not looking to have three babies next time.”

Jungkook sighs in relief, finally allowing his whole body to calm down now that he knows Taehyung was being completely serious. He follows the elder into the bedroom so they could get ready to head out, feeling warmth in his chest from being able to actually hear the babies heartbeats.

“It’s good we found out now, can you imagine if we bought only enough stuff for one baby and then two end up exploding out of me?”

Jungkook grimaces at Taehyung’s choice of words, “what a great image that is.”

“Whatever way I put it isn’t going to make the whole birthing thing seem like all sunshine and roses, Kookoo.” Taehyung mumbles as he pulls one of Jungkook’s hoodies over his head, pulling it down as he tries to adjust it to make himself look skinnier. “Tell me the truth, do I look fat?”

“You look pregnant.”

“That’s not the answer I wanted to hear before I go out into public.” Taehyung sighs, starting to panic when he realises theres no way of making the baby bump seem less obvious.

“Just put the hood up and don’t talk to anyone apart from me, your voice makes it obvious you’re a man.” Jungkook tries to calm the elder, softly pulling the hood up over his head.

Taehyung takes a deep breath, trying his best to calm himself down. “Are you trying to say I look like a girl if I don’t open my mouth?” He smirks back at Jungkook, trying his best to not stress about yet another situation.

“You’re prettier then every girl I’ve ever seen, they wished they looked like you.”

“Nice save.” Taehyung carefully pats Jungkook’s cheek before turning to throw some sweatpants on, not the most classy look for going out but since none of his other pants fit him at the moment he didn’t have much of a choice. “Remember to call me your wife, just incase someone asks.”

“Of course, I’m not looking to have you shipped off to a lab by the end of today.”

Taehyung noticeably shivers at the comment, not liking even hearing the word ‘lab’. “Ugh, don’t. Even the mention of something like that makes me want to sit in the corner and have a panic attack.”

“You’ll be fine, okay? I won’t ever let anything bad happen to you.” Jungkook says calmly, knowing there was nothing he wouldn’t do to make sure Taehyung and their children were safe.

Taehyung smiles before quickly kissing Jungkook, knowing if he allows himself any longer it’ll turn into a makeout session and they wouldn’t leave the house for at least another hour. He was still a little nervous when they finally leave the cabin and get into the car, but he finds himself feeling calmer as Jungkook sweetly smiles at him before they set off, knowing he wasn’t freaked out about everything makes him feel as if he has less to worry about.

Shopping for a new baby is something Taehyung had been dreaming of since he was about sixteen years old when he first dreamed of having his own family, all the tiny little clothes and cute toys he could buy for a child of his own made his heart want to explode. He never thought he would be doing this whilst actually carrying the child (or children now in his case), but now he is he couldn’t think of a more perfect scenario to be in. It’s hard to refrain from squealing when they enter the store, his eyes flicking around the place so frantically he didn’t even know where to start.

“I have no idea what a baby needs, so you’ll have to guide me.” Jungkook laughs, looking around the store in pure confusion.

“Maybe we should look at cribs first, I think thats the most important.”

“A baby bed.”

“Oh, got it.” Jungkook nods, allowing Taehyung to grab his hand and lead him through the store. He stays silent as he watches the elder examine the cribs which in his opinion looked just like cages, not that he was going to voice that in the fear of being hit by the other.

“Do you think we should get two cribs or just one? I think they could sleep together in one when they’re small, but should we wait until they’re bigger to buy another one or just get both now?” Taehyung questions, looking to the side at Jungkook who’s just staring in confusion back at him.

“Maybe get them both now?” Jungkook answers, taking a wild guess as to what he think Taehyung would want to hear.

“Hmm, that’s probably easier, that way we don’t have to come back.”

The younger nods in agreement, happy that he was able to at least sound like he knew about all this baby stuff. His eyes scan the shop once again, staring at all the different things that he had no idea what were used for. He never know humans had so much for babies, with the pups in his old pack they would just be born and carried around by one of the larger wolves until they were able to walk by themselves. It definitely would’ve been easier if they were still apart of the pack, having a baby in wolf form seems a whole lot simpler than in human form.

“Are you listening to me?” Taehyung’s voice finally snaps Jungkook out of his thoughts.

“Uh- sorry, what?”

“I said lets go look at clothes now, I know what cribs we’re going to get.”

“Oh, yeah, sure. Sorry.” Jungkook laughs, making his way over to the corner of the store filled with different clothing.

“You okay? You’re being all spacey.”

“I’m fine, pup. I just didn’t know there was so much stuff for babies.”

Taehyung hums as he looks through the babygrows, smiling at all the cute options he had to choose from. “When do you think we’ll be able to teach them to shift? I bet their wolf forms are going to be adorable.”

“Not for a couple of years, they’ll have to actually be able to understand what they are first before being able to will themselves to shift.”

“I guess,” Taehyung pouts, the thought of having to wait to see their babies as wolves saddening him. “Do you think they’ll be a mix of both of our wolves? Like black with white patches? Or do you think one will be white and the other will be black? Or both black? Or both white?”

Jungkook laughs at all the questions rushing out of the elders mouth, the excitement he was showing was completely endearing. “I hope they’re a mix of both of us, but either way they’re going to be perfect.”

“Yeah, they’re our babies after all.” Taehyung smiles. “Oh, Kookoo look! There’s a babygrow with a wolf on!”

Jungkook smiles widely as he takes the small item of clothing from Taehyung’s hands, not believing they were actually able to find something wolf related. He laughs as he sees Taehyung frantically searching for another one, not wanting one of the babies to go without. He doesn’t realise there’s someone standing next to them until his senses are filled with an overwhelming scent of perfume, making it hard for him not to gag as he turns towards the offending smell. The sight he’s met with is a smiling woman who he presumed worked within the store.

“Do you need any help?” The woman asks when they make eye contact. Taehyung jumps from the sudden voice, hiding his face behind the material of his hood as he continues searching through the pile of babygrows in front of him.

“Uh, no. We’re fine, thank you.” Jungkook answers back nicely, hoping it was enough to make the woman leave only to be dissapointed when she stays where she is.

“Is this your first child? You look quite young.”

“Yeah- children actually, we’re having twins.” Jungkook mentally slaps himself after the words leave his mouth, knowing he’s now committed himself to a conversation.

“Wow twins, that’s tricky for first time parents.”

“We’ll manage.”

The woman hums as her eyes turn to Taehyung, and Jungkook feels a growl bubbling in his throat when her gaze lasts for a little too long. He can see the way she narrows her eyes as she stares, clearly judging the way he looked. Of course he didn’t look like the typical woman, because obviosuly he wasn't a woman at all, but that doesn’t mean he’s okay with her silently judging his mate. “Well if you need any help I’ll be around, do not hesitate to ask me.”

“Okay, thanks.” Jungkook says quickly, thankful that the woman was leaving.

“I could feel her staring at me, if I was actually a woman I would be completely insulted.” Taehyung whispers when the woman walks back over to the other side of the store, even though they could both still sense her gaze on them.

“Maybe we should quickly finish up here, I don’t like the way she’s keeping an eye on us.”

“Well I think I picked out enough clothes for now, we just need blankets, bottles and a few other things and we can leave.”

Jungkook nods in agreement, once again following Taehyung’s lead to another area of the store as he tries not to attack the woman who was still watching their every move. He shields Taehyung from her gaze, not liking the way she seemed to be fixated on staring at him.

When they finally get everything they need and leave the store it was a God send, both of them no longer feeling comfortable about being out in public. Jungkook carries the things to the car, only allowing Taehyung to carry a bag full of blankets and a few babygrows despite his protests. After all the bags were placed in the car, Jungkook heads over to the market to pick up some groceries as Taehyung waits for him since after the situation with that woman neither of them were feeling confident about people seeing him any longer.

Once they arrive home they can both relax after what seemed like forever, no place felt safer than their secluded little cabin after all. Once again Taehyung is banned from carrying anything, Jungkook slapping his hand away if he so much as reached for one of the bags. It made him feel a little useless, but he knew the younger was just being protective of the babies and for that he couldn’t find himself mad about it.

“I know we weren’t even out for that long, but I am so tired I feel like I’ve ran a marathon.” Taehyung sighs as he slumps against the door frame to the study that he’s never used, much preferring writing from the comfort of the sofa than at a desk.

“Go lie down, I’ll clear everything out of this room and try to figure out how to build these crips.”

“Cribs, Kookoo.”

“That’s what I said, shut up.”

Taehyung laughs at the younger, trying to fight back a yawn as he says, “I’m not that tired, I can at least help read the instructions or something.”

“You are tired, I can sense it.” Jungkook states as he lightly pushes Taehyung towards their bedroom, urging him to get back into bed and nap.

“This bond is annoying sometimes.”

“Just sleep and stop whining, I’ll have the room looking amazing when you wake up.”

“I feel so useless though,” Taehyung sighs as he crawls under the sheets, the feeling of being back in bed only making him feel more tired.

“You’re literally growing two little werewolves inside of you and you feel useless? If anything I need to do this to try and be even half as amazing as you are.”

“I suppose.”

Jungkook smiles as he watches Taehyung’s eyes flutter shut, leaning over to place a soft kiss on his forehead and then his lips before turning to leave the room, determined to get everything perfect for when he wakes back up.

When Taehyung wakes up it’s already dark outside indicating that it must be nighttime. He didn’t know he would sleep for so long, but his body clearly needed the rest. He stretches out with a yawn, the beautiful smell of steak filling his nostrils as he does so. The smell of dinner was enough to make his stomach loudly rumble, food was definitely what he needed right now. Without a second thought he slides out of bed, padding his way over to the door and out to the kitchen as he follows the beautiful sound of Jungkook humming to himself.

“You’re awake,” Jungkook states before Taehyung even gets to the kitchen, clearly sensing him.

“You’re cooking dinner? I thought you were fixing up the nursery?”

“I finished that about an hour ago. I went for a run and when I came back I thought I’d get started on dinner, I knew you’d be starving when you finally woke up.”

“Wow, the universe couldn’t have found me a better husband if it tried.” Taehyung laughs, loving the way Jungkook’s face lights up from the words. “Can I see the nursery?”

“Sure,” Jungkook smiles as he takes the pan off of the heat, setting it aside to dish up after they’ve looked at the room together. “I tried to place everything where I thought you’d like it, but feel free to move it all around if you want.”

Taehyung is wowed when he sees the room, the entire space completely transformed into a cute little, cosy space for their babies. “You built everything in just a couple of hours? Even the dresser?”

“Yeah, I was actually surprised by how easy it was.”

“It looks perfect, I can’t believe you did all this.” Taehyung smiles, leaning back into Jungkook as he embraces him.

“I can’t wait for them to be born, putting this room together just made me more excited for everything.”

“Me too,” Taehyung happily sighs, his smile growing wider when Jungkook softly kisses his temple. “Can we eat now? I really am staving.”

“Of course,” Jungkook laughs, completely forgetting that he was cooking dinner before all of this.

Both of them were still terrified to become parents when they both were clueless about taking care of a baby, and now with the knowledge that there was going to be two of them only added to that fear. But together they know they can get through it, they always felt more confident when they were with each other anyway.

A/N: For everyone asking about Jimin stop panicking, I have something planned for his character but that won't be happening for another couple of chapters. Stay patient and trust me please :)
