☾ 28 ☾
Jungkook can immediately sense the worry coming from Taehyung even before he gets back to the cabin after his weekly catchup phone call with Jimin. He can only sigh to himself as he waits for the door to open, he wishes for nothing more than to go back in time and stop them from visiting Taehyung’s parents. It was better before then, before Jaehyun became obsessed with trying to expose what they were, even though he doesn’t know exactly what that is.
The phone calls with Jimin only make it worse. Jungkook has been trying to stop Taehyung from bringing it up when he speaks to his best friend but it seems to be falling on deaf ears. All Taehyung does is worry, he’s overly jumpy whenever he hears a noise outside, reluctant to allow the twins further than the back porch in order to get even a slight bit of fresh air. It pains Jungkook to see him this way, it’s far from the calm lifestyle they’re used to living.
“Jaehyun thinks we’re vampires, he’s been telling the whole of Chim’s family about it!” Taehyung sighs loudly as he slumps down on the sofa looking completely exhausted.
“Isn’t that good though? They’ll think he’s crazy and hopefully send him to get some mental help, no one is going to believe that vampires exist.”
“Oh so werewolves exist but vampires can’t?”
“They don’t know werewolves exist either, and I plan to keep it that way.” Jungkook throws an arm around Taehyung bringing him closer to his own body, hoping the action will calm him.
“I’m just saying if werewolves exist then I’m not ruling out the bloodsuckers,” Taehyung shrugs.
“Do you want people to believe we’re vampires or something?”
“No! But if they existed that would be cool.”
“So you’d rather be a vampire?”
“Maybe,” Taehyung smirks.
Jungkook gasps before displaying his best hurt expression, trying his best to shuffle back away from Taehyung on the sofa even though he was already pushed up against the armrest. Taehyung giggles as he tries to stop him wiggling, a bright smile spread across his face that Jungkook hasn’t seen in a while. It’s gone after a minute, but that is still a minute which he cherishes.
“What if he does work out what we are? What will we do if he comes for us?” Taehyung burrows himself into Jungkook’s shirt, his voice so quiet it’s barely even there.
“I’ve told you a million times, I won’t let anything or anyone hurt you or our babies.”
“But what about you? Who’s going to protect you from whatever he’ll plan?”
“I am. As if he can defeat me, I’m an alpha,” Jungkook cockily says. He hopes it’s enough to convince Taehyung, but he’s not sure if it does. The comment does, however, gain him an amused scoff from the elder, so he’ll call it a half victory.
“You’ll never leave me, right?” Taehyung whispers, a slight quiver in his voice as if he needs the reassurance for him to breathe.
“Never. It’s you and me until the end, pup. I promise.”
After a few months of waiting around and nothing happening, Taehyung allows to finally let himself believe that things will be okay. Jimin had been giving him regular updates, telling him just how crazy everyone thinks Jaehyun is, and how he was one supernatural creature away from an asylum. The knowledge calmed him, he should’ve known that no one would believe such insane claims anyway. After all, he too wouldn’t believe any of this if he didn’t already know the truth.
Everything seemed back to normal, the twins were happy and carefree and Jungkook and Taehyung seemed to be more in love than ever. It was just how it should be, their own little world in which nobody could destroy.
“Do you think we should start looking into getting a bigger cabin?” Taehyung asks one night whilst the couple are laying in bed, Jungkook already half asleep and not ready for a conversation about a potential move.
“What? I like it here, it’s perfect.” Jungkook sleepily mumbles, not bothering to even open his eyes.
“But obviously we’ll have more babies in the future. We can’t wait until I’m pregnant again to move, do you know how stressful moving is? I can’t risk our babies health like that!”
“Tae, do we seriously need to have this talk now? We’re not even thinking about more children yet, we agreed to wait until the twins are at least four before we discuss it.”
“But it’s important!” Taehyung whines, clearly way more awake than Jungkook was. “Maybe we can just extend this house… but where will we stay when all the works being done? We can’t live with my parents… do you think your old pack would mind us hanging around for a bit? It might be fun to try living as a wolf, but obviously, we’d have to wait until the twins can shift to try that.”
“Mhm,” Jungkook weakly says.
“You’re not even listening to me!”
“Shouldn’t we be talking about important stuff like this when I’m not half asleep? I need to sleep, pup.”
“Fine. But when the twins are taking their nap tomorrow we are discussing our future,” Taehyung decides for the both of them.
Jungkook can only sleepily nod, pulling the elder closer to him as he prays he was finally done talking. Luckily he seemed to be if the fact he nuzzles himself into Jungkook and closes his eyes has anything to go by.
“Sweet dreams, pup.”
Taehyung hums in response, a smile gracing his lips as he allows sleep to finally capture him. Things were definitely back to normal, or so they both thought.
Everything’s completely blissful. The sun was shining high in the sky, the warmth from it gracing the family as they sit in the grass behind their cabin. The twins were happily running around, chasing butterflies as their parents coo at how adorable they both were.
But of course, all good things must come to an end.
It starts with a bad feeling both Taehyung and Jungkook had in their stomachs ever since they woke up that morning, but they decided to ignore it thinking they were only being paranoid. But that feeling only grew, and when the scent of a vaguely familiar human invaded both their senses they knew that they shouldn’t have just pushed it off.
“Take the twins and get inside,” Jungkook immediately stands up from the grass, pulling a confused Taehyung up with him.
“As if I’m just going to leave you alone out here with him! How did he even find out where we lived? Chim would’ve never told him.” Taehyung panics, not really knowing what to do as the scent just keeps growing stronger.
“I don’t think that’s really the question, what he’s doing here concerns me more. Now get inside, I’m not risking him hurting you.”
“Mia, Jungwoo come here,” Taehyung quickly says, beckoning both of the babies towards him. “I’ll take them inside, but I’m not letting you deal with him alone.”
A rustle of leaves and a snapping branch cuts Jungkook’s words off, his head snapping towards the sound as a growl instantly leaves his mouth. Taehyung instinctively crouches down, taking Mia and Jungwoo under each arm and proactively pulling them close to his body.
“Well, isn’t this cosy.” The figure comes into sight, and unsurprisingly it was just the person they thought it to be. Jaehyun, the one person they thought they were finally free from.
“What are you doing here?” Taehyung spits out, instant anger bubbling within him.
“Just dropping by to see how my favourite supernatural family are doing,” Jaehyun bitterly laughs. He takes a step forward and Jungkook growls louder, only making Jaehyun laugh harder at him. It’s then that Taehyung realises he’s holding something, the glint of the blade making his blood run cold. “Do you know my entire family think I’m crazy? They don’t believe a word I say even though there are freaks like you existing right under their nose, and they think I’m the delusional one.”
“Maybe that’s because you are,” Jungkook says, his voice deep and menacing.
“Shut up!” Jaehyun yells, raising his arm to point the knife in Jungkook’s direction. “I’m here to get my life back, show everyone that I’m not crazy. I’m going to become a fucking legend, the man to bring to light whatever the fuck you all are.”
Mia and Jungwoo tremble in Taehyung’s arms, only causing the anger to rise within him. “As if we’re going to leave with you.”
“Oh, my little Taetae, you won’t have to. I’m going to use my little friend here to get you and your growling freak of a ‘husband’ out of my way, and then I’m going to take your precious little babies in for testing.”
“You dare touch any of them,” Jungkook snaps.
“What are you going to do about it, huh? Pretty sure I’m the one with the weapon here,” Jaehyun laughs psychotically.
“Tae, get inside.”
“I told you I’m not-“
Jungkook turns to him, staring down at his mate as his eyes flash red. “Inside, now. Take the twins to their room, lock the door and don’t come out until I come to get you.”
Taehyung’s inner wolf betrays him, his omega self completely submitting when he sees the red in Jungkook’s eyes. He can’t disobey, scooping both of the twins up and quickly heading back inside the house although his brain is screaming at him to not leave Jungkook alone. As he turns around to kick the door closed he catches a glimpse of Jungkook’s wolf form through the glass, and that’s when he knows that this is not going to end well.
But he still does as he’s told, taking the twins into their bedroom and locking the door behind them. As he places them onto the floor his heart drops at their scared eyes looking back at him, neither of them understanding what was happening.
“Mommy, where daddy?” Jungwoo asks, padding up to the door to try and get back to his dad.
“He’ll come and get us soon, everything will be okay,” Taehyung gives him an unconvincing smile, not even good enough to fool such a young boy.
“Scarwy bad man,” Mia quietly says, her voice wobbly as she crawls into Taehyung’s lap for a cuddle.
“I know, sweetie. But daddy will make him leave, he won’t bother us again.”
“I wan’ daddy,” Mia says back, making Taehyung’s heart drop either further into his stomach as he tries his hardest to keep himself together.
“Me too,” is all he answers back. He wraps his arms around Mia tighter, watching Jungwoo as he makes attempts at trying to reach the door handle.
So they wait, Taehyung keeping hope in his heart that they’ll hear knocks on the door any second and Jungkook will tell them everything was okay. But minutes seem like hours, and after a while, Taehyung has no idea how long they had been locked away in the room for.
Then it hits him, a feeling as if all the life was being sucked from his body. His heart grows cold, and he’s not either sure if it’s beating any longer. That’s when he knows everything was not okay, Jungkook was not okay, and every inch of him shuts down as he fears the absolute worse.
