A Conversation

Starfleet Headquarters
Office of Vice Admiral Christopher Pike

Admiral Christopher Pike gave a reassuring smile to the young man sitting in front of him. "So, Jim, are you ready to head back out?"

Captain James T. Kirk took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, Admiral. I am."

"Do you have any preferences as to the type of posting?"

Kirk gave a slight smile."I definitely want a ship."

Pike gave a slight chuckle. "I figured that." He looked down at his PADD. "We do have a couple of ships that need a new CO. First on the list, and the one that Starfleet hopes you'll except, is the USS Triumph, Constitution class.Aside from the Enterprise she's the newest ship in the Fleet and if the Enterprise hadn't been built she'd be the Flagship. Its former CO, Sean O'Neal, is being promoted to Admiral."

Kirk had flinched at the word 'Constitution class', and while Pike talked his expression had steadily darkened."I'm going to have to decline, Chris," he said firmly. "I don't want anything like my former posting. I did what I needed to do with the Enterprise: helped save Earth. But after what its crew did to me...anything even remotely like it is completely out of the question."

He took a deep breath. " I need a fresh start. A fresh start with a clean slate and as few reminders as possible. That means no Constitution class ship and preferably not a large one either."

He leaned forward and met his mentor's eyes. "Two good things came out of what happened to me. Number one:I found out who my real friends were. Number two: I did some growing up. I don't need the Flagship or a large ship; as long as it's a ship I'm happy.

I don't need to be out in deep space; just being in space is enough."He gave a mirthless smile. "Frankly, I'd be fine with a freighter or a garbage scow."

Pike nodded thoughtfully. "I'll see what I can do, Jim. And I'm sure we can arrange something other than a garbage scow."

Nymeria: Really can't get enough of this story. It flows well, it captivates the reader from page 1, and throws you into such a well-written, well conceptualized world that you'll believe it's real. Everything in the book is meshed together really well. From character backgrounds to plot twists, you can t...

Melissa Davis: Interesting book and an enjoyable read. Had something different to it, that made me glad I picked it up.

Christopher Chew: Been a while since reading was this fun. The plot was easy to follow and built at a gradual but good pace. The dynamics between each character were interesting and kept things fresh and exciting, very much so that you would forgive it for not going deeper into the back stories of each character. ...

CookieMonster911: The story overall was an adventure that is appealing to any age. The way the characters develop adds a more human characteristic to the novel. The writing style itself is amazing because you can learn every character's thoughts and emotions. The awkward love triangle and jerk moments adds to the ...

littlebunnypoopoos: Omg this was so amazing! The ending was a little bad and predictable. But otherwise, I need a second book or I'll die :D The character development was excellent and the whole romance, action, and suspense was superb

re8622: The Last Exodus quickly grabbed my attention. Almost as soon as I started reading the story, I couldn't put it down. I found that the ideas the author put forth were very thought provoking given the turmoil we have seen gradually rise over the last several years. I felt that I could understand th...

Dina Husseini: It was a great hook. I do not like reading scifi because they end up being like all the rest but this one kept me wanting more.

Giuliana Cassetta: My face is full of tears, I never cried like now with a book or even a movie. I loved every single chapter. I truly don't know what to say, I'm out of words and my eyes hurt from crying. Such an bittersweet story, it's so wonderful. One of my favorites for sure. Keep it up!

petew25: I have been reading WW2 novels for years and am a retired Marine pilot. Though the plot in some ways reminded me of the Gregory Peck classic leadership movie, "Twelve O'Clock High" I thought the author did a good job overall. The plot was believable and the characters were as well. In some places...

Dru83: This is perhaps my favorite part of the Olafson story just because it is here that were are introduced to his "gang". The characters are so diverse and complicated that each of them could just about spawn their own story. Eric's buddies are just so captivating and the plot just rolls along. Again...

Karl12: This is a very unusual sci-fi mystery. I enjoyed the suspense which was present throughout the story. I loved how I never knew what to expect from the characters. This made the story thrilling and made me suspicious of everything and everyone. You have a great style of writing – one which captiva...

Kelsey Miller: Page turner set in a gritty future. Loads of flavor and depth that makes the pages fly by until like me you are at the end of the book wanting more! The world is developed to the point it begs more stories set in this harsh reality. More adventures from Daryl and thr crew.

genlynne2379: I read the other review of this book and I must say that I disagree with it wholeheartedly. I do not believe the author put the apostrophes in the names just to be unique, but because the characters are supposedly of a different race than humans. They are Anmah. They should have different names a...
