“You alright, kid?” Yoongi asks Jungkook as the younger approaches him after finishing a lesson looking a little agitated about something.
“Yeah, just some people who blame me because they can’t get the hang of surfing within the first couple of minutes. Did they honestly think it was going to be easy?” Jungkook rages as he takes a sip of water, recomposing himself before the next lesson starts.
Yoongi laughs at him, it always amuses him when someone who was generally a calm person like Jungkook gets annoyed, it’s quite a sight. “The new instructor finally arrived then?” The elder refers to the guy still in the water helping a young boy out.
“Yeah, he’s nice. Kinda cute too.” Jungkook laughs.
“Wow, potential boyfriend?”
“Too early to say. I only got his name and his age, he’s the same age as me though which is cool.”
Yoongi shrugs, “Shame really, I thought you looked good with that rich boy from the bar last night.”
“Taehyung?” Jungkook raises a brow, his face softening when memories of soft blonde hair and tan skin flash across his mind.
“Oh you still remember his name, you’re definitely interested then.”
“As I said last night, he’s beautiful so obviously I’m going to be interested. But I’m looking for more than just good looks, you know? You heard him last night asking for the most expensive bottle of ‘chardonnay’ the bar had to offer, I don’t even know what fucking chardonnay is. I don’t think we’d fit well. But Mingyu is chill, we’ve only known each other a couple of hours and he’s already had me in fits of laughter countless times.” Jungkook smiles.
Yoongi shrugs again as he leans back on his towel, glancing up at the younger over the top of his sunglasses. “I’m just saying, kid, don’t just focus on a single person because you want to find love. Get to know different people, let things happen naturally.”
“I think I’m going to ask Mingyu if he wants to go for a drink after work ends.”
“Or completely ignore your best friend and do whatever the fuck you want.” Yoongi sighs, laying back down fully so he could continue his peaceful relaxation.
“I have to go back, thanks for the advice Yoongz!” Jungkook yells before running off back down the beach.
“As if he even listened to me.” Yoongi sighed as he closed his eyes and blocked out his surroundings.
“Do we have to go to this bar again? You know there are loads of others in the area.” Jin sighs as they take their seats at the same table as the night before.
“Chim and I were going to go alone, you’re the ones that invited yourselves along.”
Jin holds his hands up in surrender, “I wanted alcohol, sue me.”
“Leave him alone, Jinie. He just wants to see his crush again, I think it’s cute.” Hoseok beams as he cuddles up to his boyfriend’s side in the hope he’d calm down and drop the ordeal.
“Isn’t that him on the table over there? Looks like you got competition little bro.” Namjoon chuckles, motioning his head over to a nearby table in which two boys sat around laughing.
Taehyung frowns as he sees the sight, Jungkook getting cosy and laughing loudly with someone who wasn’t him. Of course, he didn’t even know the boy but the fact his chance was already slipping away from him was not a welcoming feeling at all.
“Oo I know that look, Taetae is jealous.” Jimin laughs as he nudges his best friend slightly.
“Of course I’m jealous! The most beautiful boy I’ve ever seen in my twenty years on this earth is sitting over there making heart eyes at some dickhead. He doesn’t even look like he can afford his rent, what a waste of space.” Taehyung huffs out.
“I know you’re upset and all, but for the thousandth time quit it with the rich person crap.” Hoseok rolls his eyes.
“I’m sorry, It’s just frustrating. Even if I did try to win him over, that other guy has way more advantages! I bet he’s not a loser who’s afraid of the sea like I am, he could just jump in and hang out by Jungkook as he gave his surf lessons, I can’t do that.”
“He’s actually working as a surf instructor as well.” Yoongi joins in the conversation, he was eavesdropping as he cleaned a nearby table and just couldn’t help but butt in.
Taehyung groans as he slams his head on the table in front of him, not even caring if it will leave a mark. “Absolutely brilliant, I might as well just give up now.”
“Did you have to tell him that?” Jimin hisses as he looks up at Yoongi, the elder instantly apologising to him.
“For what it’s worth, he thinks you’re beautiful.”
“He probably thinks the boy he’s talking to now is beautiful as well.” Taehyung mumbles into the table.
“Well, actually he described him as ‘kinda cute’, definitely a massive step down from beautiful,” Yoongi informs as he continues cleaning the table next to them, scared he’ll get caught not working.
Taehyung looks up with hope in his eyes, rubbing slightly at the reddening mark on his forehead. “Really?”
“Why are you helping him? Don’t you like that other guy?” Jin asks curiously, a little put off by the random guy that just joined into their conversation.
“To be fair I don’t know him, but he just seems a little off to me. You guys seem chill, plus your friend over there is hot so whatever can win me some brownie points.” Yoongi winks in the direction of Jimin which has him immediately blushing. “I need to head back to the bar, feel free to come up and talk to me, I might even throw in a free drink.”
Taehyung laughs at his best friend trying to hide his face in his shirt, “Wow Chim, summer romance for you is in full swing.”
“Shut up,” Jimin mumbles shyly.
“But Tae, your chance with cherry head isn’t fully gone yet!” Namjoon encourages.
“Please don’t call him ‘cherry head’.”
“Just call him Jungkook.” Taehyung groans at his brother’s inability to remember names.
Hoseok giggles at the interaction between the brothers before giving some encouragement of his own. “Joon is right, Tae. You just have to stop being so nervous every time you get a chance to talk to him.”
“How will that even help? The other guy physically works with him and they go out together after work, I can’t compete with that.”
“You have the Kim beauty and you will use it. Plus, you’re kind and you’re funny, probably funnier than him. I think I heard him telling a surf joke, that’s probably the only thing they have in common.” Jin scoffs.
“At least they have that in common, that’s already another point to him.”
“Where did he get the first point from?”
“From being on a date with him. I’m over here just staring and wallowing in self-pity, he’s winning this one by a long shot.” Taehyung groans as he buries his head in his arms, deciding against slamming his head on the table again and adding to the pain his forehead was experiencing.
“I’ll go speak to Yoongi to see if I can find out any more info on Jungkook.” Jimin pats Taehyung on the back before standing up.
“As if that’s the only reason you’re going to speak to him.” Hoseok teases which earns him a subtle middle finger from Jimin.
Taehyung sighs as he peaks up to see Jungkook smiling brightly at the boy opposite to him, feeling his chances slipping further and further away by every laugh that escaped his beautiful lips. He can only hope he’ll find the opportunity to show the younger how much better he’d be for him.
