Summer Loving

Jungkook couldn’t sleep when he got back to the beach cabin that night, with all the thoughts running through his mind it was pretty hard to. It reached the point where he was actively staring at the door needing for his best friend to arrive back, he needed his views on the whole situation before his brain actually exploded.

Yoongi nearly had a heart attack when he walked through the door and saw Jungkook sitting upright on his bed staring at him. “What the hell, Kook? Why aren’t you asleep?”

“Couldn’t sleep, brain won’t shut down.”

“What are you talking about?” Yoongi sighs as he grabs water from the fridge and makes his way to his own bed. In reality, he was way too tired to be dealing with all this, but Jungkook was his best friend so he’s willing to make an exception.

“I’m having a love dilemma.” Jungkook sighs as he lays back on his bed.

“A love dilemma? Are we in high school?”

“Don’t tease me! I already feel pathetic enough over this.”

“Okay, okay. I’m sorry, tell me your ‘love dilemma’.” Yoongi laughs, earning another sigh out of the younger.

“Well, Mingyu right? He’s practically perfect for me. We have so much in common, he makes me laugh, we relate on so many different levels so being with him just makes me feel at ease...”

“But then there’s Tae, the most beautiful human being I’ve ever seen with my own eyes. We don’t have a lot in common, hell we’re the complete opposite in basically everything. But he makes me smile for no reason, even hearing the sound of his voice is enough to make me happy for hours. We’re just so different in so many ways though.” Jungkook groans loudly.

“Seems like you want to choose Taehyung, kid.” Yoongi states.

“It sounds so cheesy, but this is definitely a head and heart kinda thing. My head is telling to go with Mingyu, he’s the safe option seen as we’re basically the same person. But my heart is screaming for Tae, it’s screaming so loud I’m scared it’s going to burst out of my chest and try and attach itself to him.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes, surely the choice was an easy one to make, but then again Jungkook had never been an easy person. “Kook, you’re never going to be happy in life if you settle for the ‘safe’ option. If you want to truly have a shot at love then you have to go with your heart.”

“Hmm... do you think I should flip a coin?”

“Goodnight, Kook.” Yoongi gives up and switches off the light, falling asleep almost instantly.

“You seem stressed.” Taehyung immediately says when Jungkook arrives at their meeting spot the following night.

“I’m fine.” Jungkook smiles sweetly at the elder. “I do have an idea though if you’re willing to trust me.”

“Well you haven’t given me a reason not to, so what’s your idea?”

“Well, first of all, we’re going to go much further into the sea tonight,” Jungkook says, causing Taehyung’s eyes to dramatically widen in fear.

“How much further?” Taehyung asks in a small voice, trying his hardest not to freak out until Jungkook entirely explains.

“Shoulder height.”

“Are you crazy? That’s enough to drown in!”

“I won’t let you drown, I’ll carry you so you’re going to have to completely trust me.”

Taehyung falls silent for a moment in an attempt to calm his breathing, he doesn’t really know if he should be scared that he’s going further into the sea then he feels comfortable with or excited that he gets to be so close to Jungkook. His brain was flipping between the two emotions when he feels a warm hand being placed on his knee making all thoughts immediately leave him.

“So... do you trust me?” Jungkook asks calmly and Taehyung finds himself nodding without even a second thought.

They both stand up and make their way down to the shoreline, Taehyung instantly forgetting how to breathe when he realises just how far into the ocean they were going. “You promise not to let me go? Like not even for a second? I want none of that titanic bullshit, if you say you won’t let me go you’re going to have to honour that.”

“I promise.” Jungkook laughs when Taehyung holds out his pinky for them to seal the promise, he’s quick to link his own pinky with the elders, almost melting when he receives a bright smile in return. “Okay, let me pick you up then.”

Taehyung was eager to comply, almost squealing when Jungkook picks him up as if he weighed nothing. ‘Calm down Taehyung, do not let your muscle kink take effect now’ he has to tell himself, swallowing thickly as Jungkook walks into the water. The younger stops when they’re up to their waists in water, he looks at Taehyung as if to check if he was okay before continuing to move in further.

The water was freezing meaning Taehyung had to cling onto to Jungkook tighter in search of body heat, at least that’s what he allows himself to believe anyway. He squeezes his eyes shut tightly as he feels the water level rising, his anxiety completely spiking at the thought of possibly drowning. He takes deep breaths when he feels Jungkook stop moving, the water lapping at his shoulders making him feel like death was coming for him at any minute.

“How are you feeling?” Jungkook asks, his arms tightening around Taehyung as if to show him that he’s secure.

“Cold.” Taehyung stupidly says causing Jungkook to laugh at him. “Don’t laugh at me!” The elder whines, his eyes shooting open to glare at the other.

“Got you to open your eyes though.” Jungkook cheekily winks.

Taehyung rolls his eyes even though he knows it was true, he wouldn’t have been able to open his eyes if he wasn’t tricked into doing so. He carefully swishes a hand across the top of the water as if he was scared of touching it, although he couldn’t help but enjoy the feeling.

“It’s not so bad, huh?”

Taehyung nods in agreement, unable to contain the small smile that graces his lips when Jungkook starts to sway him from side to side, his body feeling weightless amongst the small waves. Jungkook notices the smile and decides to spin them around making Taehyung giggle at the feeling, almost completely forgetting he was facing his fear head-on.

“I like your laugh,” Jungkook whispers. Taehyung blushes from the words, unable to meet the younger’s eyes. Jungkook only spins them around again to make the elder look at him, and once again Taehyung can’t help but giggle like a little kid from the action.

They continue spinning until Taehyung whines about beginning to feel dizzy, Jungkook halts his actions immediately and laughs out an apology. That’s when they find themselves looking into each other’s eyes, not being able to look away as if they were transfixed in that very moment. It’s unclear to them who starts leaning in first but soon they find their lips hovering over one another’s, both of them debating whether to close the rest of the distance or not. It’s a short debate, the need completely taking over as they connect their lips into a passionate kiss.

Jungkook starts to wonder why he ever felt conflicted over who he wanted to be with, kissing Taehyung felt so right it’s almost as if he couldn’t believe he hadn’t been doing this the entire time he’s known him. They kiss for so long that they begin to feel lightheaded, both of them reluctantly pulling away from each other, their breathless pants combining with the sounds of the waves meeting the shore in the distance. Taehyung finds himself leaning his forehead against Jungkook’s, wanting to still be as close to him as possible even though they’re no longer kissing.

“We should head back to the shore, I don’t want you getting hypothermia.” Jungkook breathlessly laughs causing a smile to spread across Taehyung’s face.

Jungkook finds himself affectionately rubbing their noses together before carrying Taehyung back towards the sand, an action that makes the whole situation seem that one bit more loving. The elder rests his head against Jungkook’s shoulder, not being able to wipe off the massive grin that finds itself resting comfortably on his face.
