A New Foe?
"Non," Francis complained, "I can't cook! I'll only mess it up!" He and Elizabeth were gathering wood for their fire. Elizabeth told Francis that he should cook tonight, but Francis was complaining.
"I'm not joking," he insisted, "you have not tried my food, and you don't want to!"
"Come on," Elizabeth said. She had one arm full of wood and she rested her other hand on her hip, "You've got to try sometime. Besides, how bad can cooking be?"
"I've had tried! It is difficult task. Have you ever tried cooking?" Francis shook his head and his blonde hair swished back and forth.
"Of course I have! I find it quite easy!"
"You've had practice! Besides, your father's cooking is ze worst. Everyone knows that," Francis said as he picked up a few more sticks. Elizabeth chuckled.
"So you assume that I can't cook well either? Come on, now," she began pushing him back to where the party set up camp. "I'll show you how it's done. The main thing is to enjoy it and have patience."
"If zat is all it takes, then it can't be all that hard. It's worth a shot, non?" Francis smiled with a shrug.
"True, but you also have to know what you're doing. No fears, chap, you're with me!" Elizabeth said as she gave him a pat on the back.
Kibu was exhausted from all the traveling they did that day. He know that it would not be long before they would arrive to China. He has not dreamed of anything that could happen in the near future lately, which he wasn't sure if that was good news or bad. The air felt different as well. He looked up at the sky and saw a few clouds and there was a breeze.
"It must be about to rain soon. Judging from the change in the air, I would suspect that it'll probably rain either tonight or tomorrow." He looked over at Ita and Roma, who were sleeping on the ground a few feet away from him. Kibu smiled.
"Ita and Roma seem to be relaxed. I should probably get some sleep too." He lied down and continued to look up at the sky. Something just did not feel right. They haven't had any attacks from Yao and they haven't heard more about what was going on with the other countries. Something was up, kibu knew, but he didn't know what.
"Maybe I'll see something in my sleep? There's no way to know unless I am asleep." He turned his head away from the sky and closed his brown eyes.
May, Ivan, Germanancy, and Amelia talked about which rout they were going to take next.
"We are close to my country. Hopefully, if all goes well, we should be able to see the Great Wall by late afternoon tomorrow."
"If all goes well?" Nancy asked. May nodded.
"Yes, it will rain soon. However, I don't know how bad the rain will be. If it rains, we may lose sight of the rout. But it is depending on what spirits of the rain will want the rain to pour like."
"Well, if that happens we can take another path," Amelia said, "There are other paths, right?"
"True, but that is the only path that will take us to China on foot."
"We can take a little detour. If it rains and makes the path flooded, we can always take a detour." Amelia seemed that she had this figured out. As the three stared at her, she only smiled and said, "What? I'm just trying to plan ahead."
"Maybe Amelia should lead way, da?" Ivan smiled. May stared at him.
"Crazy American lead? She could lead us to trap."
"Dudeet, are you saying that I have bad taste in traveling?" She grabbed the map and looked at it. She turned it upside down and at all possible angles, trying to figure it out.
"I can't find New York! We're lost, Dudes!" she said. The other three Part-Countries shook their heads and sighed.
"Typical American. That's not an American map, it is a world map!" May said.
"Oh...I knew that! I was just trying to make sure that you guys aren't lost!" Amelia said, quickly walking away from the three. May shook her head, but realized that Ivan was looking at her. She blushed.
"What bother you?"
"Nothing, I'm just thinking that you are smart. Your father should be happy to have you as his child," Ivan replied with a smile. May turned away.
"Oh, well, I guess. If he ever thought about my feelings, aru."
"You don't have to say anything," Francis said later that night as he handed everyone their dinner, "I know it must taste bad."
"You did everything right, so it shouldn't taste bad," Elizabeth said. Everyone took a bite out of their soup, and all carried the same shocked look, even Ivan. Francis hung his head.
"Terrible, I know. I knew it wasn't going to be any good."
"Francis," Amelia smiled.
"I was never meant to be a cook. I bring dishonor to everyone!" he continued to wail.
"Francis!" Elizabeth said, tapping him on the shoulder.
"What?" Francis managed to ask as he looked up at his friends.
"You actually did better than I could!" Elizabeth said. Francis stared at her.
"Really?" Everyone nodded. Francis' tears of sadness turned to joy.
"Yes! I can cook, I knew I could!" He felt like dancing, but decided not to. Kibu looked concerned.
"What's wrong, Kibu?" Ita asked, "Do you not like it?"
"What? No, I do enjoy the food. But that is not what is bothering me," Kibu said, realizing that his friend were staring at him.
"What is bothering you?" Nancy asked. Kibu looked at his friends.
"I had a dream about the near future again. However, I am not sure if it is wise talking about it with all of us present."
"Dude, whatever you've got to get off your chest, just say it," Amelia said, taking a bite out of her food. Kibu sighed, but nodded.
"I saw Yao. But I also saw someone else with him. Another country. This country was fighting alongside Yao."
"Who would want to fight with Yao?" May said.
"He had this country under a spell, I believe. This country chased after us, but he had his interest on one of us specifically. He was after you, Elizabeth." Kibu said looking at the British teenager.
"What does this country want with me?" she asked.
"I saw...your father in my dream as well. He didn't look well, Elizabeth. I think he was...dead."
"Dead? What do you mean dead?" Elizabeth said, staring at him in shock. Kibu looked away.
"Answer me!" Elizabeth insisted, "Who is after me? And why me? What does Yao want with this country?"
"This country. I don't want to frighten you all, but I think..." He looked up at his friends who all seemed concerned for who their new foe was going to be. Kibu shuddered and rubbed his arms and looked away.
"I...I think it was Romania."
