Aftermath by Allana Solo
"It's the high of a low, a single plant on an abandoned planet. It's a ray of light in a dark storm. Or, it can be when your enemy hesitates before delivering the fatal blow," I answer after being asked what hope is. Master Horn nods, approving of my answer. Grandma just looks away for a second, trying to hold back the tears. Then, in front of the whole class, he asks me, "Amelia, do you have hope?"
I don't even need to think about my answer. "No, do you?"
He looks away, uncomfortably, for a second, then says,"Yes, Amelia. I do." Corran Horn slowly turns away from me and looks to Grandma Leia who has quickly recovered from my honest remark. "Jedi Solo, if you wouldn't mind taking over the conversation from here?"
"Yesterday, we read a poem by Emmerjinn about two things that he believed we, as living beings, cannot survive without. Does anyone remember what those two things are?" She picks a raised hand and Kitaya Schuul's high-pitched voice says,"Love and hope."
