Chapter 1 Tyler
I drove with my sister this morning to this interview that I have been working on and am hoping I don’t fuck it up. For years now things have been hard for us. Dad got locked up and mom almost ending up in a mental hospital. I have students loans to settle and I can’t afford to not get this job.
“Breathe Ty.”
I gave Esther a lazy smile and nodded
“Thank you so much for everything ”I said.
She smiled and continue driving. Esther had to grow up so fast to keep us all together and support me through all of this. She is the one that heard of this new company that’s recruiting and it seems we went to highschool with the CEO.
I am hoping it’s one of my football teammates and hopefully things will go well for me.
“We are here,” Esther said parking and giving me a comforting squeeze on my arm “I know you gonna do great.”
“Fuck! I'm so nervous” she pulls me in for a bear hug, “just be yourself kiddo” she laughed.
I hated when she called me that.
“Now get out of my car. I'm gonna be late for my shift” she playfully pushed me and I gave her a quick peck and rushed out.
I headed for the elevator and was joined with three other young men going on the same floor.
I guess they are here for the same job interview.
Great....just great.
We step out on the fourth floor and the secretary offers us sits. I was feeling all hot and needed a glass of water. I assumed the boss wasn’t in yet because there were more applicants coming in.
In the next thirty or so minutes the elevator dinged and appeared a tall man in a blue navy suit and glasses hiding his eyes with a lady on his tail holding his suitcase. His cologne took over the whole floor and I couldn’t help feeling jealous. This could’ve been me. No. No time to feel sorry for myself.
“Welcome sir. I Will have your coffee sent in a minute” the secretary greeted.
“Thank you Sarah” he gave a tight smile and walked to his office.
It felt like forever until I was finally called to come in.
I couldn’t help looking around the office. A perfect view of the city and few artwork on the wall and a large desk. He sat apposite with glasses that perched on the tip of his nose and his cologne was ever so strong.
He lifted his eyes up and watched me for few seconds then motioned for me to take a sit.
“Good morning sir” I started.
He didn’t make a movement or paid much attention.
“My name is Tyler East- “
“I know who you are” he cut me off with a deep husky voice.
“Uhm...”
He motioned to a file in front of him. I was starting to panic. Was this a good thing that he already knows who I was? Or it’s just by reading my file?
I tried to stay calm and waited for his questions.
I can’t say I remember everything he asked because some were a bit personal and I just kept my cool and answered to the best of my abilities.
“You will need a new wardrobe if you are going to be working here” he finally said taking off his glasses to reveal dark blue eyes.
“Yes sir.”
“I will have my secretary call you with the details”
I couldn’t help but smile “thank you so much sir.”
He just stared at me with no emotions on his face.
I tried to recall his face but no. Nothing comes to mind. I'm not sure we went to school together but then again he looks rich so he was probably those ones not to mess with. Just like me.
I called Esther before getting home and told her everything. I'm still not sure if I got the job but I have a good feeling about it.
