What If: A Peggy and Steve Love Story

By Melody Rivers

Action / Drama

Chapter 1: Saved by You

How would things have changed if Captain America had stayed in his own time? Obviously the future would be changed. But how about the past?

Year: 1943

As Steve`s plane crashed, dozens of air crafts where sent out to find him. Peggy was a wreck as she passed back and forth on the plane. She knew there was a good chance he was dead. But she didn't want to admit it to herself. She loved him more than she ever loved anyone. She may have only known him for a short time. But to her he was the most incredible, self-less man she ever met.

"Peggy! Howard called, as he drove the plane. "I think I see him!"

Peggy rushed over to Howard, he pointed to what he saw. There she saw a man in the water with blonde hair and light skin. His skin was starting to look icy. Peggy couldn't believe what she was seeing.

"That has to be him!" Peggy shouted happily.

The plane moved in closer. Two soldiers dove into the water and grabbed Steve and brought him onto the plane. They laid him onto a bed and put blankets on him to keep him warm. Everyone gathered around Steve.

"Is he….alive?" Peggy asked.

Howard checked for Steve's pulse. Then smiled.

"He is still alive." Howard said.

Steve woke up a week later in a hospital room. He sat up slowly. His head hurt and he couldn't remember what had happened. To his left he saw Peggy sleeping on a couch in the room. She was even more beautiful to him as she slept, she looked so peaceful. Like an angel without wings. He saw he was hooked up to a bunch of IVs. He held his head in pain. Suddenly the nurse walked in. she had long red hair and blue eyes and was dressed in a white nurse outfit. She smiled as she saw him awake.

"Well it's good to see your up. You've been asleep for almost a week." The nurse told him.

"A week?" he replied with shock. "What happened?"

"Long story short apparently you crash a plane into freezing water, in order to save everyone. They had teams of military pilots and agents looking for you. A normal person would have died after a crash like that but you didn't. Your friends found you and brought you here. Army generals and solders have been by to check on you all week. But Miss Carter has been here every day, even sleeping here at times. She didn't want to leave you, she wanted to make sure you were taken care of."

Steve smiled.

"In case you're not getting it, I think she likes you a lot." the nurse told him.

Steve chuckled.

"I guess so."

"She seems like a very sweet girl, don't let her go."

"I won't." He smiled.

The nurse walked out. Steve slowly got out of bed and gently shook Peggy awoke. As she looked at him a big grin came across her face. She quickly hugged Steve tightly.

"You're alive!" Peggy shouted, with tears of joy in her eyes. "I was so worried! I didn't think I'd ever see you again!"

"I couldn't leave you, not when I owe you a dance." He replied.

She smiled at him. Then kissed his lips.

Steve and Peggy went back to fight in the rest of the war. But a week after the war ended the two had their first date.

Dru83: This is a great story, mainly because of the uniqueness and variety of the characters. There's also several mini story lines occurring underneath the main plot. Some of the plot twists towards the end are unexpected and twist at your heart strings a bit. The punctuation and grammar could use some...

RodRaglin: Sounds like an interesting story, LesAnne. Here are some things you might want to consider when you revise this draft."Show don't tell." You've probably hear this before and wondered what's the difference? Well, the difference is as a writer you're telling your reader what's happening rather than ...

Tiffany Thomson: This story is not something I would normally pick up and read but I'm so glad I did, I wasn't able to put it down and my husband was yelling at me at 3am to put it down and go to bed (just waited for him to doze back off before picking it back up) I really hope Natalie brings out another book eit...

racer47: What has been written is wonderful. I'm dying to be able to read the rest .A captivating story. The plot and story line is amazing. I feel like I'm right there .

MelanyFrey: This is a contemporary “teenage” (yet not only “teenage”) story that covers a lot of important topics, such as child abuse, peer pressure etc. The story is complex and deep, yet a little predictable. You did a great characterization, so that, from the beginning of the story, I was familiar with t...

PaulSenkel: If you like Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey, especially The Final Odyssey, then you will probably also enjoy this book. I definitely did.It does, however, address a more adolescent public than the above-mentioned book.I enjoyed the story and finished it in a few days. The overall situation on earth an...

LouiseJ2: I enjoyed the detail you went into with regards to the case. It made the UNSUB appear believable. The crisis in the middle of the story was my favorite part, very dramatic but not over the top. I feel like sometimes pairings can be overdone but I liked that some of the relationships were a little...

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?

John Smith: This is what Sci Fi is all about. Reads like early Heinlein. In the style of Space Cadets. No esoteric problems..but good ol blaster and space action with a host of relatable characters
