The Other Half Of Me

Chapter 17

~Rocky~

No. No way. Blondie is not my twin. She can’t be. I looked at my Mom in disbelief.

“She can’t be! She isn’t!” I asked yelling at her. She nodded slowly with pursed lips. I shook my head at her and felt all eyes on me. Vincent was staring at me with concern and confusion, mom and Jessie were looking at me with both worry and anger. Blondie looked at me with, sympathy?

“Rocky?” All four of them said at the same time. I looked at Vincent then to mom, then to Jessie then to Emma frantically. I shook my head and dashed away from them through the crowds. I needed to get out of there. I heard their voices call after me but I just ignored them walking as quickly as I could to the door. This news was just too much.

When Rocky turned and ran away Christina and that punk Vincent called her name a couple of times. I sighed and Emma looked down sadly. I gave her a comforting pat on the arm and she looked up at me with hurt on her face.

“Don’t worry,” I said and gave Christina a nod. She nodded back and I thought we were about to leave but instead of walking towards the door, Christina turned to Vincent.

“Listen you punk,” she began gritting her teeth and pointing a perfectly manicured index finger at him. “I don’t want you to ever come near my daughter again!” She warned and I nodded in agreement to myself.

“Sorry, but Rocky is my girlfriend and I can’t stay away from her.” He replied with a lazy smirk.

“Vincent you didn’t care about me when we dated, and you don’t care about Rocky if you brought her to a place like this,” Emma said gesturing with her hand to the club we were in.

“Rocky isn’t like you, Emma. She’s cool and enjoys this place, and I didn’t leave her side once. I do care about Rocky,” He said and I think Emma almost believed her when I saw her face soften at his words.

“Hey, Vinny!” A stupid high pitched voice squeaked and a girl with dark brown hair, a black dress that made me cringe it was that short, black killer heels and way too much makeup came over and slide her arm around Vincent’s waist. She was all over him and was tipsy.“Wanna get a drink?” She asked him batting her eyes grossly. I wanted to puke all over her. The now two-timing punk sputtered a few errs while looking at her then at me, Emma and Christina with fear. He’d better be scared, mostly of me!

“Err, gimme a minute,” he said and the girl pouted her bright red lip.

“Fine.” She whined and walked away swaying a little. Vincent then looked at the three of us with an expression that made him look like a frightened little boy.

“Let me explain.” He began but my hand shot up stopping him.

“Don’t bother,” Christina said for me and I clenched my fist and punched the douchebag in the noise. He cried out in pain holding onto his nose. Man, that felt good!

“Btw Vincent I was going to tell Rocky you’re a cheater,” Emma said with sass while holding up her phone to pretend to text. Vincent shook his head at her still holding his nose and I smiled wickedly in victory.

“Now let’s go,” Christina said putting an arm around Emma, then the other one around me. We walked out of the club still smiling but Emma stopped and her smile disappeared.

“What are we going to do about Rocky?” Emma asked and I came up with an idea. I looked at Christina.

“I’ll go and find Rocky. She’ll want to talk eventually and I’m not needed at home as much as you.” I said to Christina but she shook her head.

“You’re always needed at home Jessie because the kids love you, but you’re right about Rocky.” She said placing a hand on my shoulder. I nodded and started walking.

“I’ll meet you back at the house!” I called and Christina waved then took out her phone. I took out my own and looked at the tracking app that told me Rocky was headed to the park. She is gonna be crushed about Vincent cheating on her but I won’t tell her right away about it. I’m not the right person tell her that but I will be there to listen to her thoughts. I’m there for all the kids.

“Rocky?” I called looking around for her.

“Yeah?” She called weakly and I swung around to see her.

“Oh, Rocky.” I sighed and strode over to the bench she was sat on.

“Go ahead,” she muttered.

“What?” I questioned and she rubbed her tear-stained cheeks.

“Get mad at me for sneaking out,” She said leaning back against the bench.

“I’m not going to do that Rocky,” I replied and she sniffed. “Look, I bet you have a lot of questions for your Mom, but if you want to speak your thoughts to someone else I’m here,” I explained.

“I’m just confused, I don’t get how we can be twins. I’m so angry that I was left in a godforsaken foster home for fifteen years of my life that was hell every day while Emma was spoiled!” She exclaimed. I nodded rubbing her shoulders. “I’m also, a little upset,” She said and I frowned.

“Why?” I asked.

“That I’ve been nothing but cruel to Emma, and I could have avoided going through so much!” she added.

“You can still come back and fix things,” I explained holding out my hands.

“Okay then.” She nodded and took my hands. We then both got up and started to walk at a pace that wasn’t too fast or too slow back home.
