Background

Ranveer and Ishani are the best of friends. Ranveer, who is the only son of driver Kailash, loves Ishani, even though he knows that Ishaani sees him as nothing more than his best friend. He, however, shares a paternal bonding with Harshad Parekh, his boss and Ishaani’s step-father, keeping loyalty above his one-sided love for Ishaani. On the other hand, Harshad Parekh, who loves Ishani more than his own daughter Disha, wants her to get married to his friend Ketan Mehta's son, Chirag. For his sake, Ranveer tries to make Chirag and Ishani close. Chirag, however, is a womanizer only marrying Ishani for her money.

Ranveer finds out about Chirag's motive, but fails to prove it. Chirag meanwhile successfully creates misunderstandings between Ranveer and the Parekh family by taking Disha’s help, who is also interested in Ranveer. Ranveer temporarily succeeds in getting Ishaani’s engagement broken with Chirag, but the latter seeks revenge. When Ranveer refuses to fall prey to Disha’s sexual advances, she accuses him of raping her along with revealing that he was in love with Ishaani, thus causing him to be thrown out from the Parekh mansion along with his parents. After spending a night in jail, Ranveer and his family leave from the Parekh family's life.

Two years later, Ranveer returns as a rich business tycoon and is now known as RV to the world, along with being reputed as the ‘King of Dalal Street’. Ishaani and her family have lost their fortune after Harshad's death and are living a middle-class lifestyle, while Chirag is still engaged to Ishani. After a rude awakening for Ishaani where she realizes that Ranveer is now the boss of the company where she was currently working, she requests him to get married and stay away from her life and happiness. Ranveer gets engaged with Ritika, who is the daughter of Sanjeev Zaveri, a rich diamond merchant and Harshad's friend. The Parekh family loses the long-running court case regarding their frozen property and money. Chirag leaves Ishani at their marriage. Ranveer marries Ishani on Ritika's insistence.

Days after marriage, Ranveer introduces Ishaani to his new associate, Mr. Nitin, who is revealed to be Ishaani’s real father. As it is later revealed, Nitin was present at the time of Harshad’s death and was the accidental cause of the latter getting electrocuted. Furthermore, it was Harshad’s dying wish to Ranveer that Harshad, Falguni and Ishaani must be re-united as a family.

At the same time, Ishani realizes that she was always in love with Ranveer and Chirag was a wicked man who copied Ranveer's qualities and was marrying her only for money. Before she can come to terms with her feelings, Chirg tries to hoodwink her by accusing Ranveer of murdering Harshad, seeing as he died under suspicious circumstances. Ishaani, enraged but still refusing to believe that Ranveer could conceive of something like that, decides to go with Chirag and seek proof. Chirag, in return, takes her to a secluded house, citing it as his uncle’s. On the way, he attempts killing his ex-girlfriend who was on the way to tell Ranveer the truth about him. Before Ishaani can get an idea about Chirag’s real intentions, he tries raping her.

Managing to rescue herself in time, she barely manages to reach home when Ranveer gets shot by the girl’s brother (who was now into a coma), who believed that his sister was hit with Ranveer’s car. Moments before the fateful incident, however, Chirag sends pictures of himself and Ishaani in a compromising position, that Ranveer affirms with marks upon her neck. He believes that Ishaani had committed infidelity.

Miraculously brought back to life as Ishaani runs over to the nearest temple and prays for him, the story unfolds with Ranveer starting to hate Ishani because of Chirag's conspiracy. Ranveer, who thinks Ishani has betrayed him, begins to mistreat her and reveals his hatred for her. But, Ishani who loves her husband immensely and madly, tolerates everything and reveals her love for him. Soon, Ishani proves herself innocent and wins back Ranveer's love with the help of her cousins, Ranveer’s sister, Ritika and her colleague, Sameera. The duo share some stolen moments of love with each other till Chirag decided to have his ultimate revenge with both Ranveer and Ishaani.

Ambushing Ranveer on the way to Panvel, Chirag gets into a scuffle with him until Chirag gets thrown below a trench. Ranveer leaves the place severely bruised, while Chirag still remains alive. Ishaani, who follows Ranveer to Panvel to make sure that he is alright, finds Chirag’s dead body in the trench and finds sufficient proof incriminating Ranveer. So in order to save him, she removes all the evidence and incriminates herself, sacrificing her freedom for him.

Ishaani is separated from Ranveer once again as she divorces Ranveer in order to save him from the murder attempt of Chirag. Ranveer refuses to believe her cold and harsh words and continues to try saving her life until she has been sentenced to death. The two lovebirds are broken and helpless.
