Chuck vs The Game

Outside Westside hospital present time 07:45

Chuck was still thinking about the time when he told Ellie that he was a spy.

Previously Basement, Bartowski family home

Stephen asked, "Charles, are you sure about this?"

"Yes Dad, I'm sure. It's way past time as far as I'm concerned. Ellie has to know this. When they return from their honeymoon, I am going to talk to her. I'm fed up lying to her for the past two years."

Casa Bartowski / Woodcomb

Chuck already knew that he'd find Ellie and Devon at home after Ellie had rung him from the airport.

When she saw Chuck, she ran to him and hugged him tightly.

"Hi little brother. I missed you."

Chuck smiled and returned her hug. "Hi Sis I missed you too. How was the honeymoon?"

"Wonderful," she replied happily.

Devon also gave Chuck a quick hug. "Hi bro," he smiled. "And in answer to your question," he said while smiling at Ellie, "Awesome."

Chuck laughed. He realised how quiet and lonely the apartment was without them. But he had a job to do. "Hey Awesome," can I steal your wife for a little while?"

"Sure thing Chuckster. I'll see you later Ellie," he replied, giving Ellie a last hug.

At the fountain.

"Okay Chuck, what is it? What's happened?"

"Ellie can we talk about this while walking? I really need some fresh air as well."

"Chuck, what is it? You're really worrying me."

"Please Ellie," pleaded Chuck.

"Okay fine, but you are going to tell me everything. Devon, I'm going for a walk with Chuck," she called out.

"Catch you later guys," came the reply.

The Beach

They didn't speak a lot on the way and even after they sat on the beach, Chuck wasn't any more forthcoming to Ellie. Eventually Ellie couldn't hold her patience any longer.

"Come on Chuck, what is it? You know you can talk about anything with me, right?"

"I know Ellie, but I am have to tell you something that could change our lives forever," Chuck replied while still staring out over the ocean.

"Sounds a little ominous, but I'm all ears."

Chuck began by explaining everything that his father had filled him in on, leaving nothing out. But then he added what had been going on for the past two years in his life. He told her the circumstances of how he had received the Intersect and that Sarah and Casey were his handlers. Ellie was disbelieving when he told her their relationship was a cover one, but didn't interrupt. He finished off by explaining that he now had a new version of the Intersect in his head and how he now had to decide whether to stay with the CIA or join up with their Australian counterparts ASIS. He also explained how the house was bugged and so he couldn't tell her anything there.

After he had finished, Ellie didn't reply for a few minutes. When she did finally she asked curiously, "So you're trying to tell me your relationship with Sarah wasn't real?"

After everything he had just told her, that was not the first question Chuck expected he'd have to deal with. "It's a bit more complicated than that Ellie," he chided.

"Don't give me that "it's complicated" crap Chuck! Just answer the question! Do you think your relationship with Sarah just 'cover'?

Chuck answered eventually. ''No. I am in love with her Ellie. I love her so much that it hurts and I would die for her if it came to that. While I would do anything for her, after all this time I don't really know if she feels the same way about me. And I don't know what to do about it. For every time she gives me hope that we can be together someday, she breaks my heart another time. I don't know how much more of that sort of rejection I can take."

"So here's where I'm at. Being the sort of person she is and the job she has to do, I know that she can't just open up to me, but I really want to know her. But I'm afraid to go too far and push her away from me. When I see her with another guy, I feel so like my heart is being ripped out from me. But if I'm certain of one thing, it's this: If I lost her, it would kill me. I really do love her."

"Well, if you really love her just like you said, then you can't go far enough Chuck. Sarah is special," replied Ellie. "I know it and you know it. If you love her, if she's the one, then you don't quit. You're a Bartowski Chuck. Start acting like one." Then she suddenly laughed.

"What is it Ellie?" Chuck ask curiously.

"Okay maybe we are not Bartowskis Chuck and maybe we never were. But I just don't know how adjust to this much information now and how can I accept it. But for one thing, I am glad that our mother didn't just leave us. No matter what our name is, it doesn't going to change who we are Chuck. Our relationship is too strong to be broken. And so is yours with Sarah."

"I believe that now. Thanks for always being there for me, Ellie," replied Chuck, playfully shoulder bumping her. They sat there for a few more minutes gazing over the ocean, before heading back to the apartment.

Outside Westside Hospital: present time 08:10

Chuck was determined to see his sister before he left. He picked a bench as far away from any cameras as possible.

Ellie was already on the verge of tears. She knew that once Chuck made up his mind, that it would be impossible to make him change it. But she had to make the attempt.

"Chuck I know you really want to do this. But if you start this, you'll have to see it through to the end. I don't want to lose you too. We've already lost our parents to the spy world. Please Chuck, don't do this. Look at what being spies did to our family already. We were broken-hearted when we thought Mom left us."

Chuck tried to interrupt Ellie, but she raised her hand to stop him.

"I know what Dad did to help us cope, but the end result was the same. You cried every night after we thought Mom left us Chuck. You thought she was gone because of you, because you had broken her necklace. But even though we now know the truth, it doesn't erase all those hard times and our memories of them."

"Even after that, what about when Dad left us to ourselves? We were just kids Chuck! I know that I'm older than you but it didn't mean the pain was any less. I had to work at an age when all of my friends were out having fun. I don't regret it for a moment and I would do it again in a heartbeat for you. Please Chuck, you have to sure about this. If you really want to go ahead with this, then you can count on me because I will always support you no matter what."'

Chuck tried in vain to hold back his tears, but some of them still managed to escape. He answered with a confidence he didn't fully feel.

"Ellie, I have to do this for myself, our family and innocent people. I always thought I wanted a normal life, but I realize now that I really don't want that. I want to make a difference in the world. I really want to be a spy. I choose this path and I believe this is in our blood. So yes Ellie, I am going to do this. I am going to be a real spy.

As for family, I really don't see that in the near future with Sarah. I love her all my heart, but after the last mission and her decision to tell her real name to Shaw? That broke my heart so badly and it's just not the sort of thing I can get over that easily. At this point in time, I don't see a future with her, but I do know that I will always love her. I don't think I'll ever trust anyone else to have a long term relationship with. But right now, I just need to focus on what I need to do."

"Then next time I see you, you better one of hell of a spy Chuck," replied Ellie. "You better not die on me. I couldn't go on living knowing I encouraged you in this and then lose you because of that. You have to become one of the best spies in the world. But don't you forget that to me, you will always be Chuck Bartowski and my little brother. Don't allow them to steal that away from you, because if you do I'll kill you myself."

Ellie pulled Chuck into one of her bone crushing hugs. "Go get them little brother," she whispered in his ear. She laughed a little after that and kept holding Chuck, not willing to let him go just yet.

Chuck hugged his sister back. With quiet determination in his voice, he replied, "I promise you Ellie, I will be one hell of a spy. But I am not going to lose who Charles Irving Bartowski is. And I will make you proud of me. Thank you for your support Ellie. I really needed to hear that from you."

"I have always been proud of you Chuck, don't ever forget that. Especially now, as you came to me without disappearing like Dad or like we though Mom did. I don't even care if you're a spy, I just want you to be happy and successful. Because you deserve that and so much more."

They finally broke the hug, both of them on the verge of the tears. Neither of them knew when they'd see each other again after they went their separate ways. That was a first both of for them.

"Until next time Ellie."

"Until next time Chuck. Stay safe."

"I will. Love you Sis."

"Love you little brother."

'And with that, they separated. Chuck headed over to his rental car and turned one last time to wave at Ellie before he got in and drove off.

I will be here for you little brother, no matter what. But I hope that this time you will be successful. I hope that you'll finally will be happy. You deserve it and so much more."

With that thought, Ellie went back into the hospital.
