I keep on running after Tobias, hoping to catch up to him. I make my way through the crowd, trying not to lose Tobias, who is not that far from me. "Four!" I yell, but he doesn't stop to turn around or even acknowledge me; he keeps on walking.
When I was able to get out of the crowd and away from the city, I see Tobias heading towards the train tracks and when I look down the tracks, I see the train coming so I start running. I notice that Tobias has already jumped on the train so I pick up the pace, pushing my body to the limit. I reach out to grab the handle but I trip over my feet and start to fall down. Suddenly, a hand grabs my arm and pulls me up onto the train. I look up to see Tobias staring at me. "What are you doing?"
"I should be asking you that," I say, standing up. "What was that earlier? You just beat up some guy and then just walk away, you didn't even walk over to your friends!"
"I didn't want to talk to any of them, or you," Tobias says.
"Because I didn't want to hurt you!"
I'm taken back by this. "What are you talking about?"
Tobias leans against the side of the train car, crossing his arms over his chest. "When I saw Snake beating you up, I couldn't control myself so I went in there to beat him up. Right after he went unconscious, I didn't want to stop, I wanted to kill him but when I stared at his face, it reminded me of-"
"Marcus?" I finish for him.
He nods. "So that's why I walked away from you and the others. I thought that if all of you were asking me questions, I would blow up and hit you or worse."
I grab Tobias' hand, giving it a small squeeze. "That will never happen; you are nothing like Marcus. You fought Snake to protect me not to hurt me. You may have thought you were acting like Marcus, but in my eyes; you were defending me."
Tobias smiles at me and kisses me on the lips. "How do you feel? Does it hurt anywhere?"
"I'm mostly sore but I don't think I have any broken bones or anything like that. I think I just need some rest and I'll be ok." Right after I said that, I start to feel dizzy so I lean against the wall. Tobias notices this, coming over to steady me. "Are you sure you're all right?"
"I'm starting to feel a little dizzy. Is that normal?"
"Tris. Tris look at me." I stare into Tobias' eyes but my vision starts to go blurry. Before I black out, I hear Tobias telling me to hold on.
When I wake up, I find myself lying on a bed, with the sheets pulled up to my chin. At first, I thought I was back in Abnegation until I notice the dark blue sheets to realize I am on Tobias' bed…again. Only this time, I'm not alone. I feel an arm wrapped around my waist so I turn around to see who it belongs to. A faint blush appears on my cheeks when I see Tobias' sleeping next to me. However, staring at his peaceful face makes me relax so I turn on my other side, facing him. I notice that he looks his age when he sleeps and he looks so relaxed. "You know, it's creepy to watch a person while they sleep," Tobias states, opening one eye.
"Well…it's rude to pretend you are asleep and…" I trail off because I can't think of what else to say to him. Tobias slightly chuckles then runs his hand through my hair. He continues to do this for a while before asking, "How are you?"
It isn't until Tobias asks this when I feel how my body feels. It feels sore everywhere and it kind of hurts to move. "I'm really sore and it hurts to move at times," I answer. "What happened after I passed out?"
"I carried you back home then Tori called a doctor to look you over. We didn't take you to a hospital because they would probably look through your records and realize you're the princess of Abnegation. Then, they would have called your parents and you would have a lot of explaining to do. Anyway, the doctor came over and looked you over, finding only bruises and small cuts. He didn't find anything seriously wrong with you so he said you needed some rest. So no doing anything strenuous until tomorrow."
"Yes, sir," I say, saluting him.
Tobias smiles then his face turns serious. "Also, don't try to fight again in the city. You haven't learned anything about fighting yet and Shauna said you still went to fight Snake."
I look away from him. "She told you?"
"Yeah. The group came over earlier today to ask how you were and to drop off the stuff they got for you. Shauna was the one who told me what exactly happened. Why did you fight Snake when you knew that you didn't know how to fight?"
"Truthfully, I was mad that he was insulting me and it didn't really hit me until I was in the ring with him. Also, I was told that if someone challenged me to a fight, I couldn't back down from it for I would be called a coward."
"Did you even think that if you would have told Snake you haven't learned how to fight that he would have let you go?"
"That wasn't exactly on my mind at the time."
"You didn't think of that, did you?"
Tobias sighs then shakes his head. "What am I doing to do with you?"
"Teach me how to fight?"
"I will, but later when you are healed." Tobias places a kiss on my forehead. "You have to let your body rest first before you can start learning how to fight."
"Ok." I'm silent for a while before I remember that I have to ask Tobias something. "Tobias?"
"When you were kidnapped by Marcus, how many years ago was that?"
Tobias thinks about it before answering, "About ten years ago. Why?"
"Well, I was talking to my parents this morning, and I asked them what the Dauntless prince's name was and they told me his name was Tobias." Tobias widens his eyes but I keep talking. "Also, the Dauntless prince went missing when he was ten years old and you were kidnapped when you were ten. So, if you think about it, it kind of adds up." I look at Tobias, waiting for his reaction. Suddenly, he gets up from the bed, his back turned to me. "Do you think this is funny, Tris?"
"You have no idea how it feels to not know where you came from or who your parents are, and now you are coming up with these lies that I'm a Dauntless prince?!"
"No, just stop; I don't want to hear it." Tobias starts to walk away but I grab his wrist. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that. Please forgive me." Tobias turns to me and his expression softens. "Sorry for that, but it frustrates the hell out of me knowing that I don't know my parents and if they are alive or dead."
"Let's forget that I ever brought this up, all right?"
"Sure." We share a short but sweet kiss before Tobias gets back on the bed, encasing me in his strong but warm arms. We stay like this for a while before I say, "I don't want to hide it anymore."
"I want the kingdoms to know that I have chosen you to marry instead of marrying the prince of Amity. That way, we can rule the kingdom of Dauntless together and start a family."
Tobias smiles. "Then let's do it."
I smile before pushing him against the bed, kissing him senseless.
The next day, Tobias and I travel to Abnegation, to tell my parents that I have chosen my husband. We told Tori and Bud already and they were ecstatic. We also made them promise not to tell anyone so it would be a surprise for the other kingdoms and they agreed.
We stop in front of the castle and Tobias and I get out, making my way into the castle. Mom and Dad greets us at the entrance, with warm smiles on their faces. "How was Dauntless, Beatrice?" Mom asks.
"It was wonderful," I answer. "Thank you for letting me go."
"Hello, young man," Dad greets Tobias. "You must be Four."
"Yes, it's a pleasure to meet you, King Andrew."
"See, isn't he a gentleman?" Mom whispers to Dad then looks at Tobias. "May I ask what you are doing here? Were you just making sure our daughter got home safely?"
"Actually, I was wondering if I can have your blessings to marry your daughter."
Mom and Dad stare at him, with wide eyes. Their faces slowly turn to ones of joy as they look at me for confirmation. I smile, nodding my head. "Mom, Dad, I chose this man to be my husband."
My blood boils as I read the headline on the front page of the newspaper.
PRINCESS HAS CHOSEN HER PRINCE
Princess Beatrice Prior of Abnegation has chosen a man to marry instead of Prince Robert of Amity she was arranged to be married to. The man that has stolen her heart is Four, who is the son of council members Tori and Bud in Dauntless. Since there is no ruler of the Dauntless kingdom, after Beatrice and Four get married, they will become the new rulers of Dauntless.
I crumble up the newspaper and throw it to the ground. My plan was not going well and I know if Beatrice marries this Four, I will not be able to get what I want. This marriage will prove that I am wrong and I can't have that. I must get rid of this problem before it turns into anything else. It seems like I have to do the same thing I did to the Dauntless prince. I have to kidnap Princess Beatrice and lock her up somewhere they'll never find her. Then, and only then, will people see what needs to be done.
