I'm in my room, packing up my things to go to Dauntless. Since I'm now engaged to Tobias, I have to move to his place so I can learn about Dauntless. We can't live in the palace yet because we aren't married and the prince still might come, even though the prince is Tobias. I will get him to believe that he is the lost Dauntless prince. The last time, we almost broke apart and I don't want that to happen again.
"Beatrice?" I snap my attention to the doorway, where Mom is standing. "Four is here to take you to Dauntless."
"Ok." I zip up the bag then place it on my back. I look at Mom to see tears forming in her eyes. "Mom?" I ask.
"Sorry," she says. "But I still remember when you were little and how were just learning how to walk." Mom smiles at me, a tear running down her face. "Now, you are engaged to be married."
"Mom, you are sounding like you are never going to see me again," I say.
Mom wipes her eyes. "Sorry, it's just you and Caleb grew up so fast." I give her a small smile before walking over and wrapping my arms around her. "I love you, Mom." Mom wraps her arms around me, holding me tight. "I love you too, Beatrice." She releases me, giving me a smile. "Come on, Four is waiting for you." I nod and follow her downstairs, to where Dad, Caleb, Cara, and Four are waiting for me. Their attention turns to me when they see me and Mom enter the room. Dad gets up and walks over towards me, pulling me into a hug. "I love you, sweetie. You know that, right?"
"I know, Dad," I answer, hugging him back. "I love you too." Dad kisses my head before letting me go. I walk over to Caleb, giving him a quick hug. "I'll miss you, Caleb."
"I'll miss you too," Caleb says, wrapping his arms around me. "I'll see you in a month though, right?" I smile. Caleb and Cara's wedding was a month from today and I know it will be big news.
"Of course I'll be there. I wouldn't miss my brother's wedding for anything."
Caleb smiles before releasing me. I walk over to Cara, hugging her as well. "Take care of my brother for me."
"I will, Beatrice," Cara promises. Suddenly, I feel something slip into my hand. "I did as you asked," Cara whispers in my ear. I nod to her in thanks then walk over towards Tobias. "Are you ready?" he asks me. I smile then nod. We walk out of the palace and into a car parked in the courtyard. I take one last glance at my home before getting into the car to go to my new home.
I'm in my new bedroom in Tobias' house, unpacking my stuff. I'm happy that Marlene, Shauna, and Lynn took me shopping for now I have tones of Dauntless clothing to wear every day. My bedroom is right next door to Tobias' which is connected by a bathroom. Basically, both our bedrooms are connected to the bathroom so we both have to share it, which hopefully isn't going to be a problem.
Right after I finish unpacking my stuff, I take out the letter Cara gave me. I asked her yesterday to look up some information on the prince of Dauntless, since she was the princess of Erudite. She did and found everything I need to know in this letter. I'm not going to open it until I talk with Tobias again. I want to be there with him when he opens the letter to see if he is the prince of Dauntless or not.
"Knock, knock," Tori says, opening the door. I stealthily slide the letter under my pillow, right before Tori comes into the room. "I see that you've finished unpacking."
I nod, giving her a smile. "Yup."
"That's good. Anyway, I just came up here to tell you that Uriah invited you and Four to a party at his house."
"Yeah. It's more like a gathering of friends to celebrate you and Four getting engaged and everything."
"Oh, I see. What time does it start?"
"He said around 7; he also said to wear layers."
I raise an eyebrow. "Layers?"
Tori chuckles. "You'll understand when you go over there. Just trust me and wear lots of clothing." Tori then leaves the room, leaving me puzzled beyond belief.
It's around six thirty when I walk downstairs to go to Uriah's party. I'm wearing a black, spaghetti strapped dress with leggings and flats. I also have on a tank top underneath the dress and a leather jacket on top of the dress. I see Tobias sitting on a couch, wearing a leather jacket, pants, and combat boots. When Tobias sees what I'm wearing, he starts chuckling. "It looks like you're ready for this game," Tobias says, taking in my appearance. "Well Tori told me to wear layers," I retort back. "It doesn't look like you're wearing any layers."
"I am, you just don't see it." Tobias gets up from the couch then walks with me out the door and over to Uriah and Zeke's house. He knocks on the door and we wait a moment before the door opens and Uriah stands there, with a huge smile on his face. "Four! Tris! You're here!" He lets us in and we walk into the living room, where everyone is there waiting for us. "The guests of honor have arrived!" Everyone says some form of congratulations towards us and I smile, looking at my friends. Zeke is sitting on a chair with Shauna on his lap, Marlene and Lynn are sitting on a couch and next to them I see… "Christina!"
"Tris!" She gets up and runs towards me, wrapping her arms around me. "I can't believe you're here!" I tell her. "How did you get here?"
"Long story short, Marlene and I are great friends so when I heard that you and Four got engaged, I called Marlene for details," explains Christina.
"I told her about the party we were planning for you and invited her and Will to come and celebrate with us," Marlene finishes.
"Will's here too?" I ask.
"Yup," he answers, walking into the living room. "You're my friend too, Tris. Plus, who would pass up a Dauntless party?"
"Pansycakes, that's who," answers Uriah.
"Stop trying to bring that word back!" Lynn yells.
"Anyway, so what are we doing?" I ask.
"We are going to play Candor or Dauntless," Zeke answers and there is a chorus of 'yeah' and 'awesome.' However, I just stand there, confused. "What is Candor or Dauntless?" Everyone goes silent, staring at me like I'm a crazy person. "What?"
"You never played Candor or Dauntless?" Marlene asks.
I shake my head. "I never even heard of that game."
"What is wrong with you?!" Uriah asks.
"Guys, give her a break," Christina interjects. "She's lived in Abnegation all her life that they probably don't play these games."
"No we don't," I confirm.
"Well, to be simple, Candor or Dauntless is like truth or dare," starts Shauna. "If you say Candor, you have to answer a question the person asks you. However, if you say Dauntless, you have to do whatever dare the person tells you."
"And if you don't want to answer the question or do the dare, then you have to take off an article of clothing," finishes Zeke. "Shoes and socks don't count."
"That's why Tori said to wear layers," I mumble.
Tobias nods beside me, a smile on his face. "I haven't played this game in a long time."
"Well then, let's play!" Uriah exclaims and we all get into a circle. "Oh, before we begin, our parents are out on a date but they'll be home around 10."
"So I'm guessing they don't know you're throwing this party and you want us gone before then?" Will asks.
"No, they know," says Zeke. "They just don't want us to wreck the house or anything. However, they'll probably kick you out once they come home. So, who wants to start?"
"I'll start!" exclaims Christina. She looks around before her eyes land on me. "Tris, Candor or Dauntless?"
I think about before saying, "Dauntless."
"I dare you to sit on Four's lap for the rest of the game."
I shrug then move to Tobias to sit on his lap. Once I'm comfortable, Tobias wraps his arms around me, holding me close to him. "Ok…um…Marlene, Candor or Dauntless?"
"I'll go with Candor," she says.
"Pansy-" Uriah starts but Lynn yells, "NO!" Uriah shuts up.
"How did you and Uriah start dating?"
Marlene blushes. "It was during a Candor or Dauntless. One of Uriah's friends dared him to kiss the girl he likes the most. I thought he wouldn't kiss me but I was surprised when I felt his lips on mine. After I got over the shock, I kissed him back and after that game, we started dating."
The girls fawn over this while the guys smirk at Uriah. "Anyway, Shauna, Candor or Dauntless?"
"Candor," she answers.
"What is one thing about Zeke that annoys you the most?"
Shauna thinks about and I can see Zeke slightly pale. "It annoys me that, when he comes over, he leaves the toilet seat up after using the bathroom." Right after she said that, everyone starts laughing while Zeke blushes bright red. "I said I was sorry!"
"Sorry doesn't cut it! You keep on doing it even after I tell you not to!" When we have calmed down and stopped laughing, we continue on with the game. "Lynn, Candor or Dauntless?"
"I dare you to drink whatever mixture Uriah comes up with in the kitchen."
Uriah gets up from his seat and heads into the kitchen. He comes out minutes later with a greenish-reddish liquid. Uriah hands it to Lynn who stares at it before drinking it in one gulp. We stare at her, waiting for her to say something, when Lynn gets up and heads to the bathroom. We hear her throwing up and I wonder what Uriah put in that drink. When Lynn comes back in and sits down, she glares at Uriah. "What did you put in there?!"
"Milk, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, and some hot sauce," he answers.
"I'm going to get you for that, Uriah." Lynn looks around the room. "Four, Candor or Dauntless?"
"I dare you to tell us your real name."
Four shrugs out of his jacket then places his arms back around me. The game continues on for a while. Uriah was dared to egg a council member's house, Christina confessed that she was afraid of moths, Will was dared to run around outside screaming 'the monster is after me,' Zeke was dared to play seven minutes in heaven with Shauna and, when the time was up, both came out with messed up hair and wrinkled shirts.
After about a good two hours, everyone is either half naked or is close to being naked. The guys all have their shirts off, Christina, Marlene, and Shauna are not wearing shirts, and Lynn is not wearing pants. The only thing I have taken off is my jacket and dress, so I'm still good. I lost those items of clothing when I was dared to call my mom to tell her I was pregnant and to tell everyone Tobias' real name.
"Tris, Candor or Dauntless?" Uriah asks me.
"I'll play it safe and go with Candor," I say.
Uriah sighs. "Fine." He thinks about a question for a moment. "If there was one thing you wish to change, what would it be?"
I think about this question, wondering what I would want to be changed. "I wish…I could change the rules of the kingdoms."
Everyone is silent. "What do you mean?" Tobias asks.
"I mean, I wish that the princes and princesses weren't forced to marry another prince or princess. They should have the freedom to marry whoever they want to. That is what I wish would change."
Everyone nods at my statement and before they could comment, I continue on with the game. "Four, Candor or Dauntless?" Now was my chance to get Tobias to know the truth of his identity and family.
"Let's go Dauntless," he answers.
I take out the letter I hid in my pocket. "I dare you to read this letter."
"Why do you want me to read a letter?"
Here goes, I thought to myself. "Because it contains information about your identity as well as who your family was."
Tobias' eyes widen, as does the eyes of everyone else in this room.
