Speare of Finality

Chapter Five

The silence was deafening, my head pounded painfully as I waited with bated breath for Rick to start yelling, and we all knew it was bound to happen. And he did yell, but not at us specifically, more like making 'Sporto' get up and help him because he's an idiot like that.

"Andrew Clark get up here. Come on front and centre, let's go!"

"Hey! How come Andrew gets to get up? If he gets up, we'll all get up, it'll be anarchy!"

I looked over at John and smiled slightly, I was struggling not to laugh but I knew in any situation, especially this one, laughing would not help me get out of here any quicker. But, I couldn't help but think that maybe I didn't want this to end as quickly as I did before. Besides, this could be the last chance I have to be normal before I graduate school and all that.

I shook my head to dispel the pent up thoughts and looked over to see Andy helping Vernon move the magazine rack to sit between the door and its frame. Yeah, because that's a good idea, to block the easiest accessible exit we have in this ol' library.

I continued looking over, narrowing my eyes slightly as Andy tried and failed to get past it. I moved my hand to cup my mouth, trying to disguise my snort with a cough. It didn't work all that well as Andy heard and glared slightly before smirking at me because he just knew he looked like an idiot.

It was only then, that Bender decided to voice his concern, and I use that word very lightly when describing John's tone of voice in the matter.

"That's great work sir but what if there's a fire? I think violating fire codes and endangering the lives of children would be unwise at this juncture in your carrier, sir."

Vernon glared at John, obviously realising he was right as he spoke loudly towards Andy, almost violently I'd say. Never does learn manners, and always blames others for his failures. I can't wait to leave him and this school behind.

"What are you doing with this? Get this out of here for god's sake. What's the matter with you? Come on."

While Vernon and Andy focused on removing the idiotic problem, Johnson spoke up, but thank God it wasn't loud enough for Rick to hear. Though Bender's reply was less than needed towards to poor kid, I mean he was just trying to be helpful.

"Well, you know the schools equipped with fire exits on either end of the library."

"Show Dick some respect."

"Alright, let's go," Vernon said leading Andy back to his seat. "Go; get back in your seat. I expected a little more from a varsity letterman."

Vernon looked away from Andy and focused on John, his looks intensifying by the minute and I was worried for what John was about to do, because I just knew he would say something stupid and get put in detention for it. At least you'll have someone you like when you come in for your detention next week. Really, that's what I think about? Shut up. There talking.

He then looked to Bender and pointed to him using both his pointer finger and his pinkie.

"You aren't fooling anyone Bender. The next screw that falls out will be you."

John leaned back in his seat, he looked fed up honestly, and I really hoped he didn't open his mouth but he did, though it was a mumble, one I barely made out, Vernon paused, looked sharply at him and walked closer to him.

"What was that?"

John leaned back even further, a smirk pulled on his lips slightly, and he spoke louder, obviously knowing he wasn't going to get out of trouble like he probably hoped, but he made the most of the situation it seemed, by getting into even more trouble.

"Eat my shorts"

Oh Jesus, Vernon will kill him for that. What the hell is he doing? Wait, why do I even care? Stop trying to fool yourself Alka, we both know you fancy the pants of that kid. I looked at John glaring, hoping that the message in my eyes was clear as he daringly glanced at me before pulling his eyes back to dick, who stood stiff in front of him. No. He didn't seem to get my message, or he was just ignoring it like a douche. I wouldn't be surprised.

Although Vernon looked increasingly pissed off, all he did was point at Bender before speaking, in a sort of whispered shout

"You just bought yourself another Saturday, mister!"

"Oh, I'm crushed."

"You just bought one more right there!"

"Well, I'm free the Saturday after that, beyond that I have to check my calendar!"

"Good, 'cause it's gonna be filled, we'll keep going! You want another one? Say the word, just say the word! Instead of going to prison, you'll come here!" Vernon looked at him in distaste, like he had something horrible in his mouth, he took a breath, a pause and spoke again, "Are you through?"

"No!"

"I'm doing society a favour!"

"So?"

"That's another one right there! I've got you for the rest of your natural born life! You want another one?"

Bender hesitated, it was hardly noticeable but I hoped it meant he was going to shut up and not go too far with this, but it's John, and he wouldn't be John if he didn't get into this sort of trouble. I just really hoped he said no. Alas, luck was not on my side as I knew it wouldn't be.

"Yes!"

"You got it! You it right there! That's another one, pal!"

"Cut it out!"

John's concentration was cut as Claire yelled at John. He looked to her and she just mouthed 'stop'. He didn't seem to take notice as he moved his head towards me, and suddenly I was mesmerized by the brown eyes that stared unwavering at me. I looked at them closely, and then shook my head at him, as to try and get him to be quiet but he smiled small at me before turning back to Rick. Looking at him seemed so much longer than it actually was, I must be going crazy, getting caught up in this bad boy. Why did I have to be the cliché girl who wanted the bad boy? I'm an idiot.

Bender's voice was sarcastic, and loud, filling the empty silence that had tried to creep up on us.

"Not even close bud!"

"Good, you got another one right there!"

"Do you really think I give a shit?"

"Another." Bender just glared at him, his eyes brimming with unrestrained hate, "You through?"

"How many is that?"

John's questioned didn't go without an answer as the brain of our mismatched group, the idiot really, decided to be a good person and answer the rhetorical question that just wasn't meant to be answered. Oh dude I like you but please shush!

"That's seven counting the time when we first came in and you asked Mr. Vernon whether Barry Manilow knew if he raided his closet."

"Now it's eight!" Vernon said before he turned to face Johnson, face completely red by now. "You stay out of this!"

"Excuse me sir, it's seven!"

Nerd boy said holding up seven fingers. He just didn't get it, and for that Rick decided to be a jerk and snap at him. It's a wonder how he became principal, I mean, honestly, such a rude man towards his pupils.

Vernon glared at him before shouting, "Shut up, Pee-wee!" to which Johnson just nodded to Vernon and did the equivalent of zipping his mouth closed. Vernon turned, clearly done with him and looked at Bender. "You are mine, for two months! I got'cha! I got'cha!"

"What can I say? I'm thrilled!"

John's response came fast, naturally, and I really wanted to hit him because all he was going to get was a swift kick in the face from Vernon if he wasn't careful.

"Oh, I'm sure that's exactly what you want these people to believe. You know something? You ought to spend a little more time trying to do something with yourself and a little less time trying to impress people. You might be better off." Vernon said before he started directing his talking to everyone, his face seemed tired, but you could see the anger still residing in eyes, and the fact his hands were clenched tightly by his sides. "Alright that's it! I'm going to be right outside those doors! Next time I have to come in here, I'm cracking skulls."

I looked at Vernon, but glanced at Bender just in time to see him mouth the last sentence with him, to which I giggled slightly, and rolled my eyes because I knew it was inappropriate.

Vernon didn't stick around to get a reply so he walked to the door, swinging it open widely and walking out while he held up two fingers implying the two months that John had just received in detentions and then let the door close with a bang.

As it closed Bender yelled, "FUCK YOU!" and then the suffocating silence came back as John mumbled to himself, "Fuck", over and over.
