The Younger Sister of Kakashi Hatake

Chapter 1

Chapter One: Academy Student No More

Since the night the Nine-Tails attacked Konoha, Kakashi learned that his father and mother (Sakumo and Sanako), had lost their lives as they protected the village, thus making Kakashi and Kazumi orphans. However, Kakashi stepped up and raised Kazumi on his own. He didn't like the idea of having his sister taken away from him, especially not after all that had happened. Kakashi hated that his sister would never know their parents like he did and all she had to remember them was a family photo of them altogether.

As Kazumi grew, Kakashi noticed that her markings were growing to fit her face as she did. And soon more changes occurred in her appearance. It started when she turned four. Kakashi saw that she had grew fangs, similar to the members of the Inuzuka Clan. But luckily that problem was quickly solved. Kazumi had adopted Kakashi's look and started wearing a mask, covering the lower portion of her face, thus covering her fangs and her markings. When she turned eight, Kakashi started teaching her the basic rules and regulations of being a ninja. Not only that but she started the ninja academy.

There, she met and befriended a blonde-haired boy named Naruto Uzumaki. Unlike the other students, Kazumi instantly became friends with the hyperactive knucklehead. They would study, talk, eat lunch and train together. But at the time, even though they were best friends, neither one knew that they both shared a similar secret.

Name: Kazumi Hatake
Age: 12
Rank: Genin
Kekkai Genkai: Hatake Clan's White Chakra
Chakra Type: Lightning (primary), Earth and Wind
Abilities: Average level of Ninjutsu and Taijutsu, beginner swordsman, Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, below average level of Genjutsu.
Personality: Normal, but usually quiet. Has somewhat of a similar demeanor as Kakashi but is a slight bit more out-going.
Appearance: A smaller, younger, female copy of Kakashi. She has the same silver hair and has an athletic build for a twelve year old. She wears a dark, navy blue mask connected to a sleeveless t-shirt. Over that she wears a dark, navy blue shirt with grey patches on the shoulders, dark navy blue pants and shoes with dark navy blue armbands that covered her forearms. She also has both ankles wrapped in bandages. (A/N similar to younger Kakashi's old attire)

Kazumi's Point of View:

The following morning, I got up early and quickly got dressed in my normal, everyday, attire. Once finished, I quickly brush out my hair, placing it into a low, tight ponytail. I allowed some to hang loosely on both sides of my face and a few over my forehead. Taking my headband off my dresser, I place it on my forehead and tie it over the bangs on my forehead but made sure I didn't cover my hair that hung on the sides.

"Kazumi, breakfast is ready!" I hear Kakashi yell.

"I'm coming, Onii-chan!" I yell back. Exiting my room, I quickly made my way downstairs and into the kitchen. "Good morning, Onii-chan." I tell him as I enter the room.

"Morning, Imouto." He says happily. "Sleep well?"

"Yeah, I did." I answer while taking my seat at the table. "What about you?"

"The same." He says. "So, I heard from your teachers that you graduated the academy with high scores. Both on the physically and the written tests."

"Yeah, I did. In fact, I scored higher than all the girls in my class." I explain. "I even surpassed Sakura Haruno. But I have to admit, she's a pretty smart girl."

"Hmm, that's something." Kakashi says with a slight nod of his head. "Well, you have certainly made me proud, Kazumi. And I know Otou-san and Okaa-san would be too."

"Mm, I'm glad." I say happily as I send Kakashi a smile.

"Well, you don't want to be late today, so eat up." he says as he returns the smile.

"You're right I don't. We’re supposed to be assigned to our teams today." I say as I pick up my chopsticks to eat. “I can only imagine who I’m going to get paired up with.” I add. Moments after that statement, I could have sworn I heard a light chuckle come from Kakashi. However, I just dismissed the sound and thought nothing else about it.

Kakashi and I both pull down our masks and began eating out breakfast. Once finished, I hastily place my bowl in the sink and left to brush my teeth. After replacing my mask over my face, I made sure it was secure and straight. Once I was back downstairs, Kakashi and I exit our apartment and began walking down the streets of Konoha. Kakashi was reading his book while I walked beside him. In no time at all, we were at the academy.

"Okay Kazumi, I'll be here to pick you up later, okay." Kakashi tells me.

"Okay Onii-chan, I'll see you later." I tell him.

Before leaving, I ran up to him and gave him a quick hug, in which he gladly returned. Once he released me, I quickly took off and headed towards the academy. As I enter the building, Kakashi turned around and proceeded towards the Memorial Stone like usual. As soon as I made it to my classroom, I quietly entered the room and took my seat next to Hinata.

"Morning, Hinata." I greet happily as I took my seat.

"Good morning, Kazumi." Hinata replies back in a hush tone.

We all just sat there as we waited for Iruka Sensei to appear. Suddenly Naruto runs into the room and takes his seat, which was next to Sasuke Uchiha. Pretty soon we were joined by Ino Yamanaka and Sakura Haruno. The two entered room, and as usual, they were arguing about who Sasuke loved more. I swear that these fan-girls were getting on my last nerve. Yeah I admit that Sasuke had good looks, but the dude wasn't a freakin' god or something. If you asked me, he was way too emo to me. You would see him glaring at almost anyone who came near him. Before long, Iruka sensei appeared and stood before the class as he held a scroll out in front of him.

"Okay everyone, let's settle down now." Iruka sensei immediately tells the class. "Today I will be placing you all into your assigned teams. So let's begin. Team One…"

As Iruka sensei continued to call out the names of my classmates, I have yet to hear my name. But I made sure I was paying close attention so I wouldn't miss it. In fact, I was a little restless and was ready to find out who my teammates were going to be. In all honestly, it felt like an eternity has passed before I heard my name being called. But boy was I surprised when I finally heard my name being mention along the others that were called moments before.

"Okay, Team Seven will consist of Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno…" there was a sudden pause. From out of nowhere, I heard a loud thump. And when I glanced down to see what made the noise, I found that it came from Sakura. She had slammed her forehead down onto the desk. "Sasuke Uchiha…" There was another loud thud, but this time it was Naruto. And as Naruto did so, Sakura jumped up from her seat, squealing with glee.

"Oh man, poor Naruto. He got stuck with the gloomy Uchiha and the miss know-it-all Haruno." I thought to myself.

"And Kazumi Hatake." Iruka finished. As soon as I heard my name, my eyes narrowed right toward Haruno and Uchiha.

"Damn it! I should have never thought of anything." I mutter, scolding myself. When I looked down again, I saw Naruto sending me a huge smile. I sent him back my signature eye-smile as I nodded my head slightly. “Well, at least I have my best friend to join me for the ride.” I thought happily.

After being assigned to our teams, Iruka sensei dismissed the class. However, he told us to wait here and wait for our sensei. As I sat in my seat, bored out of my mind, I looked up to see Naruto putting an eraser in between the slightly ajar door.

"Naruto, what are you doing?" I ask, knowing full well what he was up to.

"Heh, I'm getting our sensei back for being late." Naruto replies.

"He's a high level ninja, a Jounin." Sasuke says plainly. "You honestly believe that he's going to fall for something as stupid as that?"

"Yeah! Sasuke's right." Sakura adds.

Naruto just ignores Sasuke's and Sakura's comments and continues to focus on getting the eraser to stay in place. While he was doing so, we suddenly start to hear approaching footsteps. Naruto quickly jumps from the chair and runs back to his seat to watch his prank play out. When the door opened, I found that the eraser fell onto an all-too-familiar silver-haired ninja. Remaining silent, the said Jounin reaches down and picks up the eraser.

"Hmm, how can I put this?" He says as he places a hand on his chin, like he was deep in thought. "My first impression of this group, you're a bunch of idiots."

A look of depression, as well as an anime drop, appeared over Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura. I on the other hand just had a laid back look, just like Kakashi always had on his face. I soon saw Kakashi look up at me. For a quick second, I saw him sending me a smile. He was quick enough so the others didn't see. I quickly nodded my head, making sure the others didn't see as well.

"Okay, all of you meet me on the roof." He tells us and soon leaves the room.

"Wow. My big brother is my new sensei. What are the odds of that ever happening?" I thought to myself as I started to leave the room.

"Alright, why don't you introduce yourselves?" He says while leaning against the railing. "One at a time."

"Introduce ourselves? Well, what are we suppose to say?" Sakura asks.

"Things you like, things you hate, dreams for the future, hobbies… things like that." He explains in a plain tone of voice.

"Why don't you tell us something about yourself first?" Naruto states. "Before we talk, tell us about you so we can see how it's supposed to work."

"Me? Well, I'm Kakashi Hatake. Things I like and things I hate, I don't feel like telling you that." He states. "My dreams for the future? I never really thought about it. And as for my hobbies, I have lots of hobbies."

Wow, Kakashi. That was really informative.” I thought with an unimpressed look plastered on my face.

"Hatake?" Naruto, Sakura and even Sasuke suddenly exclaim together as they direct their attention onto me. After glancing towards Kakashi for a few seconds longer, I look out the corner of my eye to find my teammates staring me down with curiosity in their eyes.

"Huh? What is it?” I ask plainly. “Why are you three looking at me like that?”

"You have the same last name as Kakashi-sensei." Sakura points out.

"Well, yeah. He's my older brother." I mutter quietly.

"Older brother!" they all exclaim together once more.

"Okay, okay, calm down.” He tells them as he sets his sights onto Naruto. “Your turn. You on the right, you're first." Kakashi he tells him.

"Believe it. I am Naruto Uzumaki. I like instant ramen in a cup, and I really like the ramen Iruka sensei bought me at the Ichiraku noodle shop. But I hate the three minutes you have to wait after you pour the water in the ramen cup. My hobbies are eating different kinds of ramen and comparing them. And my future dream is to be the "greatest" Hokage. Then the whole village will stop disrespecting me and start treating me like I'm somebody, somebody important."

"Well, he's grown up in a very interesting way." Kakashi thought privately to himself. "Alright; next."

"I'm Sakura Haruno. What I like, uh I mean the person that I like is….. (Looks over towards Sasuke with a smile). Uh, my hobbies are…. (Still glancing towards Sasuke). My dream for the future is (glancing at Sasuke and looks like she was going to explode into a fit of giggles).

"And, what do you hate?" Kakashi asks.

"Naruto!" she states immediately, her voice laced with disgust.

Glancing over at Naruto, I found his eyes were just about ready to pop out of his head. I could see it in his face that he couldn’t believe what Sakura said about him, right in his face. Looking over at Sakura, I could see that she was still staring at Sasuke with a fan-girl look. I couldn’t help but to shake my head because while she was fantasizing her future as being Sasuke’s wife, she didn’t answer a single question she was suppose to answer. All she did was look towards Sasuke and squealed like an idiot. Oh man; and she’s suppose to be my partner. There was no doubt about. I was in trouble. No, better yet, I was screwed.

"Girls her age are more interested in boys than ninja training." Kakashi thought. "Okay, next."

"My name is Sasuke Uchiha. I hate a lot of things, and I don't particularly like anything. What I have is not a dream because I will make it a reality. I'm going to restore my clan and destroy a certain someone." Sasuke states in a low, determined tone.

"Geez, I hope he doesn't mean me."Naruto thought.

"Sasuke is so hot." Sakura thought.

"Man, he is so damn depressing." I thought.

"Just as I thought." Kakashi thought. "Alright. Kazumi, you're next."

"Right. My name is Kazumi Hatake. I like training and relaxing. I dislike many things, especially people who tend to pick on me or my friends. My hobbies are many things but mostly studying, reading and swimming. And my future dream is to become a great kunoichi of the Hidden Leaf." I state assertively. “One that may even rival your own title, Kakashi.” I add with a sly smirk.

“We can only wait and see if that happens.” He tells me. "But anyway, good job everyone. You're each unique and you have your own ideas." Kakashi sensei tells us. "We will have our first mission tomorrow."

"What kind of mission are we going to have?" Naruto asks as he eagerly waits for his answer.

"It's a task that the five of us will do together." Kakashi sensei answers.

"What, what, what, what?!" Naruto asks excitedly.

"A survival exercise." Kakashi tells us.

"Huh? Survival exercise?" Naruto questions.

"I thought we were supposed to have a real mission, not more practice." Sakura exclaims in a matter-of-factly tone. "We already did this stuff back at the academy. That's how we got here."

"This is not like your previous training." Kakashi clarifies.

"So, what kind of training is it?" Naruto asks. Suddenly Kakashi sensei starts laughing without any kind of warning. We all just sat there, attempting to figure out what was so funny about the question Naruto just asked.

"Hey what's so funny? That was a normal question." Sakura said.

"Well if I tell you the answer, you're not going to like it." Kakashi explains as he chuckles quietly. But quickly as it began, it stopped just as fast. "You see, of the 28 graduates who just came here, only nine, maybe ten, will actually be accepted and be granted the rank of Genin. The other eighteen will be weeded out and sent back to the academy. In other words, this is a make it or break it pass/fail test. And the chance that you'll fail is at least 66 percent." He explains with a slight glare. "See, didn't I tell you wouldn't like it."

"That's crazy! We worked hard to get here. What was that graduation test for anyway?" Naruto yells, obviously shocked at the information he just learned.

"Oh that? That's was just to select candidates who might become Genin, or not. That's how it is. I decide whether you pass or fail." Kakashi answers. "Be at the designated training spot at 5 am, and bring your ninja gear. So that's it, you're dismissed. Oh, and as for tomorrow, you better skip breakfast or else you'll puke."

With that, Kakashi disappears in a gust of wind, leaving the four of us on the roof. I just sat there, wondering what on earth Kakashi had planned for tomorrow. Since I know how seriously he takes my own training, there was no doubt in my mind that this training session would be anything less. But because he never tells me anything unless it was need to know, I couldn’t help but to feel a bit nervous. So in the end, I was pretty much left in the dark just like the others were.

"Hmm, knowing Onii-chan, he won't be going easy on us." I thought to myself.
