Chapter Two: Kakashi's Survival Test

After Kakashi disappeared, there was a brief silence between the four of us. I guess we were all contemplating on what the challenge would be tomorrow. Releasing a soft sigh, I glance up towards the cloudless blue sky as I ponder away at my thoughts privately. I knew Kakashi was sort of a master when it came to mind games. Heck, who was I kidding? He had a high IQ level and was no doubt the king of mind games. And oh boy, he was showing us his skill right now.

"Hey, Kazumi?” I hear Naruto say. Taking my eyes off the sky, I direct them towards him. “Any idea what's happening tomorrow?" Naruto asks while Sakura and Sasuke both stared at me.

"Why are you guys looking at me like that?" I ask.

"Kakashi sensei is your brother, so uh, I thought that maybe you could tell us what he has planned for the survival test." Naruto says with the others nodding in agreement. "You know, so we can be ready for tomorrow."

"Sorry, but unfortunately, I haven’t the slightest clue." I tell them.

"What!? How can you not know anything about this?!" Sakura yells, causing me to narrow my eyes at her. "I mean for crying out loud, Kazumi! You live with him! What?! Do you think you're too good to tell us anything? Huh? Is that it?"

"First of all, Sakura. Even if that were true, that doesn't mean he tells me everything!" I shot back. "How about you just get ready for tomorrow and stop breathing down my damn neck. After all, you believe I'm no better then you or your precious Sasuke. And it’s because of that fact that I know that you don’t give a damn about me or Naruto."

With that, I stood from my seat and silently walked away, leaving them still sitting down. I didn't need to sit there and listen to Sakura's constant babbling. Why should I help her anyway? Yeah, we were teammates but she thought she was better than everyone else. Well, except Sasuke. And to be honest, I felt that she was only looking out for herself and Sasuke. She could care less about me and Naruto.

"That was cold Sakura." Naruto tells her as he stands up. Turning around, he runs up the stairs, leaving the two alone. "Kazumi-chan! Kazumi-chan, wait!" Naruto yells as he takes off to catch up with me. Now Sasuke and Sakura were the only ones there.

"Geez, that girl is nothing but trouble. She's just like Naruto." Sakura states with a shake of her head. “How can we work with someone like that, huh, Sasuke?”

"Sakura, I really think that was unnecessary." Sasuke tells her as he stands up. "You really shouldn't have done that. Yeah she may live with him, but in truth, he may not tell her everything. And if you had paid any attention, you would have noticed that she was shocked to see him when he entered. It was clear that she didn’t have a clue that her brother would be our sensei."

With that said, Sasuke proceeds to leave. Now only Sakura was sitting there, alone. As she did, she recapped on what Sasuke had told her. And after thinking about it, she thought that she was a little hard on Kazumi. Sasuke had a point. She may live with him but that doesn't mean that he tells her everything that’s going on. Heck, she bet that Sasuke’s parents didn’t tell him everything that happened.

"I'm going to have to apologize to her tomorrow. After all, she's my teammate and I need her in order to pass the test tomorrow." Sakura thought. "Then when I see her, the first chance I get, I'm going to apologize."

Sakura soon gets up and leaves the roof of the school. She knew she would see Kazumi tomorrow but as for now, she needed to get ready for the survival test. Who knows what would happen, so she needed to make sure she had everything.

Kazumi's Point of View:

After walking away from Sakura, I decided to just roam the streets of Konoha as I attempted to clear my mind and hopefully calm myself down in the process. While walking down the main road, my ears pick up a familiar voice that was calling out to me. Stopping in my tracks, I glance back to see Naruto running through the crowd as he made his way to me.

"Hmm? Naruto?" I mutter quietly to myself. Before long, he skids to a stop right in front of me. "Naruto? What is it?" I ask as I watch him try to get his breathing back to normal.

"I-I… I wanted t-to a-a-apologize." He says in between breaths. "I really shouldn't have asked that question. If I hadn't then maybe Sakura wouldn't have…"

"Stop right there, Naruto." I tell him as I held a hand up. "You did right to ask. And like I should, I answered. But Sakura was the one who pushed it. So you have nothing to apologize for."

"Are you sure, Kazumi-chan?" he asks, sounding a bit unsure.

"I'm positive." I assure him. "Look, just remember this. Come tomorrow, ready and focused. And definitely don't forget your ninja gear."

"Right! I got it, Kazumi-chan!" he says happily.

"Good. Now, make sure you get plenty of rest tonight." I tell him as I turned around, keeping my eyes on him as I did so. "I'll see you tomorrow morning, alright."

“Yeah, you bet!” he exclaims happily.

With that, Naruto and I go our separate ways as we made our way to our homes. As I continue to move forward, I glance back and out the corner of my eye, I watch as Naruto quickly runs back down the road he came from. Before long, he disappeared behind a large crowd of civilians. I just smiled to myself and turned my head forward. Instead of heading straight home, I stopped at the nearby stream that flowed through the village. I sat down near the water’s edge and just let my feet get wet as I enjoyed the remaining rays of the setting sun.

"Okay. I don't need to get myself rattled up over nothing." I thought. "All I need to do is worry about the survival test tomorrow. I just hope it goes well."

After sitting there for a few minutes more, I jump out of the water, place my shoes back on and headed home. The remainder of the day, I made sure I packed everything I needed. I knew tomorrow was going to be quite interesting to say the least.

The next morning, I got up early and finished getting my stuff together. I soon left the apartment, already knowing that my brother was going to be late. When I arrived, I found that I was the first one there. So I sat my bag down and leaned back against the trunk. Before long, Sasuke appears, followed by Sakura and then Naruto. As I sat there, I made sure not to make any kind of eye contact with Sakura. But a few minutes later, I could hear footsteps slowly approach me. Parting one of my eyes slightly, I look out the corner of my eye to see Sakura standing on my left.

"Um, Kazumi." She says. I notice her tone was soft and quietly, sounding as if she was nervous or something.

"Hmm?" I hum as I glance up to look at her.

"Uh, about yesterday." She starts. "Look, I'm sorry for my attitude and for what I said to you. I shouldn't have and I was out of place. Do, do you forgive me?"

"Sure, I forgive you." I tell her as I lazily lay shift myself down so I could lie on the grass. With my back laying flat on the ground, I place my hands behind my head for support. "Besides, I'm not mad about that anymore. I'm over it."

With that, I hear my pink-haired teammate release a sigh of relief as she stood there. Reclosing my eyes, I returned to my own thoughts and start to wonder who could have gotten her to apologize so quickly. I knew Naruto was with me so the only person left would be Sasuke. But why would he even say anything? From what I could see, he hated me. As time continues to tick by, we all just sat there in a comfortable silence, waiting for Kakashi to show up. But soon, those minutes quickly turned into hours and we soon ended up waiting for over three hours.

"Okay, explain something to me. How come you can be early but your brother is late!" Naruto asks.

"Beats me, I haven't the slightest clue." I tell him. “Just don’t worry about it. He’ll get here when he gets here. So let’s just chill out for now.” I add. And after sitting there for a little longer, Kakashi finally appears.

"Kakashi sensei, you're late!" Naruto and Sakura exclaim together.

"Yeah sorry about that. You see, a black cat crossed my path so I had to take the long way around to get here." He says, obviously lying.

"Ha, yeah right." Sakura and Naruto state simultaneously.

"Okay, your assignment is very simple. All you have to do is take these bells from me." Kakashi explains as he holds out three silver bells. "That's all there is to it. And if you can't get them before noon, then you'll go without lunch. You'll be tied to those post and watch as I eat my lunch in front of you."

"Wait a minute, there's four of us. How come there are only three bells?" Sakura quickly ask.

"Well, that way at least one of you will end up tied to a post, ultimately disqualifying you for failing to complete the mission. That one also goes back to the academy. Then again, all four of you can flunk out too." Kakashi explains. "You can use any weapons, including shuriken. If you're not prepared to kill me, then you won't be able to take the bells."

"Those weapons are too dangerous sensei!" Sakura shouts.

"Yeah, especially since you couldn't dodge that eraser." Naruto adds with a laugh.

"Class clowns are usually the weakest links. You can safely ignore them, lowest scores, losers." Kakashi states, causing Naruto to narrow his eyes at him Of course, Kakashi just ignores him. "When I say start, you can begin."

Without wasting any time, Naruto quickly runs forward and tries attacking Kakashi sensei. However, Kakashi sensei easily gets behind him and catches the weapon, holding it to the back of Naruto's head. His movements were so fast that I hardly even saw a thing.

"Don't be in such a hurry. I didn't say start yet." Kakashi tells him nonchalantly. "But you came with the full extinct of destroying me so, how can I say this? I'm actually starting to like you guys. Now, get ready. And, start!"

In an instant, we all jump away from Kakashi sensei and start searching for well thought out hiding spots. However, Naruto was the only one who decided to fight Kakashi sensei head on. And instead of getting ready, Kakashi sensei takes out a book and starts back on his reading. Naruto rushes forward and sends out powerful kicks and punches, but Kakashi sensei was able to dodge every single one of them. When Naruto sends a punch forward, Kakashi sensei disappears and reappears right behind a confused looking Naruto.

"Damn it, I need to move now." I thought.

Just before Kakashi sensei could attack, I quickly jump out of my hiding spot and rush over towards Naruto. In a swift movement, I jump into the air, catch a hold of Naruto and land a few feet away from where Kakashi was crouching. After giving Kakashi a disapproving look, I take off, still carrying Naruto, as we both get out of Kakashi’s sight. As soon as we were safely hidden behind some bushes, I pull Naruto to his feet. Crouching down, we both glance through the bushes as we stare at Kakashi’s form across the field.

"Oh boy. That was way too close." I breathe out.

"Wow. Thanks for the save, Kazumi-chan." Naruto says happily.

"Don’t mention it, Naruto. But listen, we're going to have to work together if we are to get those bells." I explain to him.

"Huh, are you sure?" he asks.

"Yes, I'm positive. But first, we need to find Sasuke and Sakura. Once we do, we need to come up with a strategy with them." I explain. “Then and only then will we be able to retrieve those bells from Kakashi.

"Hmm, right." he says, nodding his head in agreement.

"I'll go look for Sakura and you go search for Sasuke." I instruct him.

"Right." he states quickly.

With that, we both disappear from out spots and head out to look for our teammates. A few minutes later, I was able to find Sakura. She was hiding underneath a bush, poorly I might add. I quickly got close to her and crawled underneath to lie beside her.

"Sakura listen, we need to work together in order for us to get a bell." I whisper to her. "Trust me, it's the only way."

"What? You are still trying to get a bell?" she asks.

At that moment, I wanted to face-palm myself. However, I manage to keep myself from doing so, "Damn it Sakura wake up. We need to get those bells or we all fail. Now get from under this damn bush and let's go." I tell her as I grabbed her arm, attempting to pull her from the bush myself.

"Hey!" she snaps, but I ignore her cry.

Once I was free, I kept a firm grip of Sakura’s arm as I continue to pull her out. As soon as we were both up, leaves suddenly start circling around us. I quickly felt chakra lingering around them and knew that it was actually a Genjutsu and not just the wind blowing the leaves like that. I knew had to release this technique immediately or I was done for.

"Not a chance Kakashi." I thought as I made the ram sign. "Release!"

"Oh no, Sasuke's in trouble! I have to go save him!" she suddenly yells in a panicked tone.

"Sakura, no don't! That was nothing but an illusion." I try to explain to her. “It wasn’t real. So don’t fall for it.”

However, Sakura ignores me and runs off, leaving me alone. I couldn't believe she just did that. Standing there, I could feel a presence behind me. I simply shook my head and slowly turned around to see my brother standing a few feet away from me. He was still reading that damned perverted, kami-awful book of his. I just fold my arms against my chest and narrow my eyes sharply at him. I knew he could tell that I was obviously irritated.

"Damn it, Sakura. You're so gullible, especially when it comes to Sasuke." I mumble to myself. "How the hell did she even graduate from the academy anyway?"

"Got ya, Imouto." Kakashi says in a childish tone.

"Heh, really? Are you sure about that?" I ask him. He just gives me a sort of questioning look. "Sorry Onii-chan, but I don't have time to be captured by you. I'm not finished yet."

Sending him a small smile of my own, I simply wink at him before exploding into a white puff of smoke. It was none other than a shadow clone. Kakashi just stands there, looking in the same spot my clone was standing not too long ago. Moments later, an approving look appears in his eyes.

"Hmm, nicely done, Kazumi." He thought.

I was on the other side of the field where I found Naruto hanging upside down from a tree. I couldn't help but laugh mentally to myself at the sight. Seeing Naruto like that was pretty funny. After getting all the laughs out of my system, I quickly pull myself together and take out a kunai knife. Jumping into the air, I swing the blade before me, slicing through the rope. Before Naruto could crash into the ground below, I manage to catch him, keeping him for sustaining anymore injuries.

"Thanks, Kazumi-chan." He says gladly as he dusts himself off.

"No problem, Naruto." I tell him. "But now I need your help."

"Sure, what you need?" he asks as he finishes untying his ankles.

"Okay, we don't have much time." I explain. "We need to focus on finding Sakura and Sasuke and getting them to work together with us. This isn't an option; it's now our main concern."

"Right, I'm with you." he says.

"Okay, now follow me." I tell him.
