Operation Mila

By Isma McLovin

Adventure / Action

Enter the Team

No sound was pronounced on the whole tavern, everything was quiet and only the breath was heard. But it was not quite a normal breath, the air in that room was filled with fear, and fear was the most powerful force in the galaxy. At least that´s what Keidan thinks, but he´s just a bounty hunter who has lived too many adventures in his search for the best pay.

Who was Keidan? Someone who had lived to many things, he was from Coruscant and about 30/40 years old. He is someone you don´t want to mess with, tall and strong, with silver hair and scars all over his body. But the most recognisable thing about him is the purple armour, he always wore that, in all the battles, it was his symbol of hope, or at least the symbol that made him carry on. But he never wore a mask, he hated the masks, he wanted to see everyone face to face, to see the true nature of the people. He didn´t trust anyone after everything he went through, and he also was a bounty hunter in level 1313, what did you expected?

And that´s the bad thing of drinking in Coruscant during the Galactic Empire, having to look at everyone´s eyes and see the suffering in the eyes. Coruscant hasn´t been the same since that night, but no one wants to talk about that in here, they just drink while holding their guns.

And Keidan was an expert on doing that, killing, drinking and forgetting the past. He was sitting alone in a horrible tavern waiting for a contact, because he needs the money to buy drinks, and he need to be drunk to kill and to forget the past.

Then through the whole darkness of the tavern, a woman appears, she is a Togruta which is completely covered with a hood. She walks through the tavern without looking at anyone and directly sits next to Keidan.

"There is a package inside the Imperial Senate which we need you to pick up, we don´t want to start another war with the empire in Coruscant, just pick the package and get out". Keidan finishes his drink and takes a look at the woman,

“I don´t know what they have told you, but I´m not a messenger, I don´t pick packages, I kill people". Keidan replies while showing his shotgun to the woman and smiling

"I´m not going to discuss the conditions of the mission, you accept it or not, there´s millions of bounty hunters in this hole" the woman says angrily to Keidan.

"I know all the bounty hunters in this dark alley called 1313, and believe me that no one will accept a messenger job" Keidan says to the woman in a sarcastic way making fun of the woman

"I don´t have time to discuss this type of things it´s simply a yes or a no, good luck with everything" the woman replies angrily and gets up

"THEN WHY DID YOU CAME TO THE LEVEL 1313 IF YOU DON´T WANT TO DISCUSS" Keidan yells in the middle of the tavern, where everything is silence and fear. Everyone starts looking at him, "I didn´t said that I don´t want your job, I said that I´m not a messenger, in fact I need the money" Keidan replies with everyone looking at them

The woman is looking at the spectacle that Keidan just made and with a strange sensation replies to Keidan "Meet me at this address in Imperial City" the woman gives a paper to Keidan

"I don´t like Imperial City" Keidan replies angrily and suspicious

"Do I look like I care, I´m leaving this dark whole before me someone blows my head" The woman leaves the tavern without looking at anyone around and leaves Keidan looking at the paper

"The credits are the credits" Keidan looks at the paper and then at his empty glass thinking of drinking again

Some people love Coruscant by night, but that was not the case for Keidan, Coruscant holds to many secrets for him to care about it. He was just walking through there to find the address that the woman gave him.

If you walk through Coruscant by the night, you will find drunken people, the Coruscant Underworld Police and people trying to sell you stuff, it´s amazing how anarchy can take a city in just 10 years, 10 long years thinks Keidan to himself…

"Old relics, does anyone here remember the Jedi's, I have memories from the temple right here" An old merchant is shouting from his post

Keidan hears him and gets closer to the old merchant, "Did you just said that you have relics of the old Jedi temple" Keidan asks the merchant

"That´s it, I have some robes and also some relics from when the temple was destroyed" The merchant answers

"Do you have anything from a girl called Mila Fanthom, a robe, a relic… a lightsaber" Keidan asks really nervous to the merchant

"I don´t know what´s a lightsaber sir, and no I don´t have anything from that lady" The merchant says faking his words and trying to hide from the underworld police

"Never mind, thanks for everything" Kaiden answers sadly and continues his way to the address

Kaiden continues walking through the streets of Imperial City and then he arrives to a building surrounded by dark alleys in the dark part of Imperial City. Next to the dark alleys, the only thing is clubs and taverns where the criminals spend the day and the night

"Here´s the address, why would she want us to meet here, level 1313 is even safer than this" Keidan says while looking around the building

Kaiden goes to the door and knocks on it. Someone replies from the other side of the door in an aggressive way "Who is it?"

"I´m the Emperor Palpatine, open the damn door" Keidan answers sarcastically

Then a really big underworld policeman opens the door with a shotgun pointing at Kaiden´s face "Hey you are not the emperor" the policeman says angrily

"And you are not my contact" Keidan says sarcastically

"Let him in Dace" The voice of the woman pronounces from the inside of the house

Dace starts pushing Kaiden to the inside of the building, they walk until they get to a living room where the woman is sited on a table with some chairs around her. The woman is still wearing a hood

"I´m sure you are wondering right now what kind of job this is" The woman says while having a smile on her face

"I think I have an idea, you are part from a cult" Keidan answers to the woman

"Not exactly, I just wear this because we need to be discreet and to work as a team" The woman answers

"What do you mean as a team?" Keidan answers angrily to the woman

The woman gets up from the chair and makes a sign with his hand, and then other three persons appear in the room. One is human girl with blond hair; other one is a Lasat who is wearing lots of explosives and the last one is a boy in red armour with his hair completely shaved and with a sniper rifle in his back, he is also wearing some glasses to cover his face.

"This was not a part of the deal, I´m leaving" Keidan says really angry to the woman

"Then how are you going to discover what happened to Mila" The woman says really seriously to Kaiden and then she removes her hood

Kaiden stays quiet and looking to the woman, he doesn´t pronounce any word for some minutes, and then he reacts

"How do you know that?" Keidan says to the woman

"I know lots of things, just accept the deal and the truth will be revealed" the woman says to Kaiden while smiling

All the people are looking at Kaiden, and he is thinking and at the same time trying not to come down because of hearing the name of Mila

"We just have to pick the package and that´s it" The blond girl says to the woman

"It´s simple enter the Senate and get out, but don´t start another war around here" The woman says to everyone

"How many victims are we allowed to have?” The Lasat asks

"With me we´ll be able to count them with our fingers" The sniper answers sarcastically

"I´m happy with your reaction for the job, now I want to know the opinion of our guest" The woman asks Kaiden

"I´m doing this for Mila, but I don´t trust any of you" Kaiden answers angrily and then he reloads his gun

The mission will continue...

Dru83: This is probably the fourth time I've read this one. I read this a few times on fictionpress as dru83. This is a wonderful story. It still needs a lot of shining up as there are many instances of punctuation issues, grammar issues, and issues with using the wrong word. But all that still can't ta...

marklurch1: What an unexpected pleasure! I usually avoid modern gothic stories as the zombies and demons shown on TV seem so one-dimensional. But the demons in this story were truly menacing as their powers grew and transfigured as the story progressed. But then, great heroes require great villains. There we...

263Adder: Okay so I adore this story. I only knocked one star off plot for historical inaccuracies because I'm a bit of a stickler for that. John Smith: This is what Sci Fi is all about. Reads like early Heinlein. In the style of Space Cadets. No esoteric problems..but good ol blaster and space action with a host of relatable characters

Pablo Rojas: Love the story, at the end it is a western story, simple, yet giving hints and pieces of the situation that is happening all over ravencroft´s universe. easy to read and always keeping with the main stream story I want to keep reading about, Olafson´s adventures.

ga1984: I really enjoyed it! Characters were deep and plot was pretty complex. A bit on the violent side but it doesnt detract from the story. Very dark but situations make sense. Ends kinda abruptly and later chapters will need some editing work. I'm assuming there's more in the works?
