I'll Never Be The Same

By Meg Xam

Romance / Thriller

Chapter 1

I come from the Everdeen family of three, used to be four. I live in the country of Panem, more specifically, district 12. It is a very poor and rather undesirable place to live, however it does also carry a warm rustic feel to it as well. The people who live here are so kind, I feel as if we're all one big community, working to support each other. My life has also been filled with many hardships, if you look at the fact that I've lost my father and sister at a very young age. My father, who carried a popular name in our community for helping others, was killed in a mine explosion years ago. My sister, Katniss, one of the biggest role models in my life, had been taken by the Capitol while hunting in the woods one day. I loved her so much, and I miss her everyday. Maybe one day, we'll meet again. Luckily, we still have Gale, who was one of Katniss' best friends, who still manages to support me and my mother, as well as his own family. He was lucky to be able to conceal himself from the aircraft that spotted Katniss in the woods (as he tells us). I don't know if me and my mother could survive without him. Stepping back into reality, today is the day of the reaping. The day where innocent kids, a male and female from each district between the ages of 12 and 18, are chosen to fight to the death in the Capitol's "Hunger Games". I am 14 years old, this is my third year of the reaping. Because of Gale, and Greasy Sae at the Hob, I haven't had to take any tesserae, although it was tempting. Just as my mother adds the finishing touches on my hair, the gong rings from the town square. "We better get going." she says. The reaping for the 74th annual Hunger Games is about to begin.

Shreya Biswas: Finally god...... I was tired of Charissa doubting Frederick's love... yes.. All's well that ends well.... i was getting really downright agitated at the author because the suspense was held really well on how things will work out in the epilogue and i just wanted them to have a happy ending.. Samantha Speed: There were several punctuation, grammar, and missing word problems but it did not detract from the story. This story was very well done, enjoyable, and had an interesting enough plot. Marimar Amieva: I just can't believe the story! I absolutely loved it, all of it. The characters and their chemistry between them, and the fact that they are relatable. zoheusher20: What more can I say? The writing style and little details drew me into the book and for the entirety of the story I was Juliet. I felt her turmoil and emotions and every trouble or triumph as they arrived. This story was very different and had quite a few little but unexpected twists that made it...

Alex Rushmer: Chapter One: Not much is happening in this chapter, but I was absolutely fascinated by the depth of your character development. I love how you just sat there with the reader and explored Eddward. Usually, that sort of thing gets boring very fast, but this was actually really cool! He's so unique ...

Althea Kerr: This is a tale that is all too familiar to South African readers having lived through a war era on our borders and beyond. It is obviously autobiographical as the mind under duress is so detailed and real. It has fantastic suspense if a bit disjointed - perhaps that is the fear and loneliness com...

263Adder: Okay so I adore this story. I only knocked one star off plot for historical inaccuracies because I'm a bit of a stickler for that. The ending broke my heart though, considering you already changed history couldn't you (SPOILER) change it a bit more and have them together!!!! I want an alternative...

maewilde25: I liked this, though it dragged on for over 200pages and heaven knows I did not expect the plot twist in the middle. David being Cristiãn. I was wondering when he would show up and didn't know he was there all along. it looks like there should be a sequel, please let there be a sequel. I know the...

The Rising Sun was one of the first stories I read on Inkitt, and I have to say I don't regret the three to four days I spent pouring through the story.Probably the biggest strength I see in your writing is your characterisation of Eliana, Oriens, and the rest of th...
