Failure

The soothing lull that had once resounded with brillance around me had been taken away and replaced by the overwhelming stench of death. No matter what I would do, what I could do, I could not change any of the events that would follow. No matter how many times I went back over and over and over again, nothing could be achieved. Ever. My mind, heart, and soul had been damaged beyond repair, been stretched too far too many times. Everything in me wanted to scream with pain. Even though I was in no physical pain, my mental pain was pure agony.

I had failed the people that I had come with. I had failed them. They couldn't remember why I'd failed them, or the dozens of other times we were in the same predicament. Because I had decided to travel back in time over and over and over again, I had to lie to them. They had no idea what I was doing. They had no idea that I had gone back over and over and over again to the point where I was forgetting my past life. I even forgot how I met... what was his name again? I can't seem to remember... All I can remember is that I loved him. And he left.

But I had failed so many people, so many nations...

Alfred F. Jones, the personification of the United States of America.

Arthur Kirkland, the personification of England, or since his brothers refused to come to any meetings, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Francis Bonnefoy, the personification of France.

Matthew Williams, the personification of...Canada...Wait, who?

Ivan Braginski, the personification of Russia.

Yao Wang, the personification of China.

Gilbert Beilschmidt, the personification of the nonexistant nation Prussia. I'm glad he survived when his nation was abolished. I think it may have something to do with the fact that his capital city still stands as part of Russia...maybe?

Kiku Honda, the personification of Japan.

And, oh God, I had failed Ludwig Beilschmidt. Otherwise known as the personification of Germany.

If you're wondering about me... I'm Feliciano Vargas, the personification of Northern Italy. And I have failed every person I've ever cared about.

PaulSenkel: If you like Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey, especially The Final Odyssey, then you will probably also enjoy this book. I definitely did.It does, however, address a more adolescent public than the above-mentioned book.I enjoyed the story and finished it in a few days. The overall situation on earth an...

Cassie Jacobson: So many twists and turns. Keeps you wanting to read to see what happens next. The main character is detailed well. The struggles and growth of Joby makes you admire her. It gives you a proud satisfied feeling while reading it. A refreshing difference then most books out there today, and in a w...

Bernsigns: This is an age old story, but with excellent plot twists that I didn't see coming. I truly liked how the story slowly, but steadily revealed the secrets. There were secrets I didn't expect, which kept me wanting to read. I always love a happy ending, with a little bit of real life mixed in. Th...

Arabella: The catchy blurb caught my attention. The story is creepy but I would not qualify it as a horror story. The characters are likeable and I’m impatiently waiting for new stories from Obsidian Fae.

Deleted User: (A review in progress). I like this. It's sparse, gritty and atmospheric - reminiscent of the classic Golden Age of American detective fiction of the Thirties. I've only read the beginning, but I'll definitely be back. This writer knows their stuff and has done their homework on detective work. T...

Isha Chaudhari: Amazing book ...the most beautiful part is the kind of relationship Carla has with Peter. However, the epilogue was the one that surprised me the Most....Carla getting married to Peter....when in the book her relationship is mostly discussed with Ridian. Was a bit confusing thus.Lovable book that ...

Alex Rushmer: Chapter One: Not much is happening in this chapter, but I was absolutely fascinated by the depth of your character development. I love how you just sat there with the reader and explored Eddward. Usually, that sort of thing gets boring very fast, but this was actually really cool! He's so unique ...

Shifa Gohar: this book is my first on inkitt and I love it thoroughly...but i guess this is not the end. The characters were amazing the plot too. At times it scared me more than a horror movie would. Love the plot something i had not read in a while.

harry142018: This story was gripping and very professionally written. With lots of twists and slight of hand tricks, the author deceives the reader until finally showing their cards at the end. With several subplots all intertwining to create the main plot, this really is an interesting and engaging read.

romboili000: As I read this book it made me realize the importance of trusting big God. And believing that you can love even when it feels impossible. This story definitely has made me what to become a better person in Christ and just life. So thank you that's all I have to say because you wrote this story so...

LouiseJ2: I enjoyed the detail you went into with regards to the case. It made the UNSUB appear believable. The crisis in the middle of the story was my favorite part, very dramatic but not over the top. I feel like sometimes pairings can be overdone but I liked that some of the relationships were a little...
