Chapter 1: A Life Changing Event

Today was a sunny afternoon in the courtyard of the castle. It was peaceful and quiet as a young girl of 15 walked to the chamber where the dragon eggs were. Although this girl was a great friend of the queen, no one was ever allowed to go into the chamber, so she had to sneak in. As she was about to approach the entrance of the chamber, she heard a noise behind her. She turned around to find no one else near her and was staring at her reflection in a mirror. The image showed a girl with bright, blue eyes, long, brown hair that passed her shoulder blades, and of average height. She did not usually consider herself beautiful, but she had to admit that the long, blue dress that flowed around her did compliment her blue eyes.

Everyone in the castle knew who this person was. Her name was Meghan who lost her family in a tragic house fire. Her father was an elf from Ellesméra and was visiting her mother in the castle. Due to him being an elf, Meghan rarely got to see him, but learned a lot of magic words from him. The day that the incident happened, he was just leaving the house when it caught fire. He quickly tried to use magic to douse the fire, but that proved to be futile. He went back inside the house to see that Meghan was trapped in her room and her mother was knocked out due to a fallen beam. Meghan’s father quickly rescued Meghan and got her out of the house. Before he went back into the house, he gave Meghan his satchel that had all of his magic books to learn from. As soon as he went back into the house though, the house collapsed and both of her parents were burned alive. Meghan became an orphan and was taught by Nasuada and other people around her.

When Meghan was sure that no one was following her, she turned back around to face the door and pushed it open. As the door opened she felt a cool air rush around her. She quickly closed the door and lit a small flame in her hand. As she walked over to the chest in which the eggs were held in, she knew that something was going to happen, but she didn’t know what. When she opened the chest, she saw a lot of beautiful eggs but she was looking for one in particular. Meghan soon found it under a piece of blue cloth that she wrapped it in the previous week. The egg looked like a crystal with white veins going toward the center of it.

Meghan stared at the egg and carefully picked it up while it was still in the cloth. Once, she removed the egg from the cloth to her hands, a bright light started to shine and the egg started to tremble. She was scared that something bad had happened and was starting to prepare for the worst when she felt a shooting pain in her right hand. When she felt that pain, she felt a warm body settle in her lap and all thoughts left her mind except for ones that were not her own. Meghan saw how to deal with training a dragon, how to communicate with a dragon, how to bond with a dragon, and how to hide the mark of the dragon on her hand.

With the light starting to die down, Meghan looked in her lap and her gaze settled on a frostbite blue dragon. Right next to the dragon, she saw her hand. Most of it was a silvery color, but her gaze was soon blocked by a blue snout. When the dragon looked up at Meghan, she knew that she would have an everlasting bond with it and would protect the dragon with her life and vice versa. There was only one problem with having the dragon now. How would she hide it from Nasuada who was the queen and her best friend? What would happen when Nasuada found out that she was sneaking into the egg chamber when no one was supposed to go in it?

Dru83: This is the second or third time I've read this one and I just love it. It has just about everything you could ever want packed into one scifi story. It still has some parts that are a little rough in terms of grammar, punctuation, and word usage, but it's still an awesome story. I love how detai...

Jason Phang: It's too short! The plot was excellently thought through, with the characters flowing up and down the storylines like the peaks and valleys of the Himalayas. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and the time spent with Asta and her journeys. (:

kwilliams: I am an avid reader, and I do mean AVID and few indie authors capture my attention the way you have. I absolutely fell in love with these characters and their story.
